The expensive US release has an actual humidor though, that UK box is just a fancy case for the Blu-ray.

Not sure even I'm *that* big a fan... maybe if I actually smoked, but I don't!

Lol, just the movie please...

My brother just ordered the $699 humidor. He has more disposable income that I have and is a huge fan of the movie.

I wonder what else I can put in that Humidor

+1 to that.

Haha. Where I live, that will only result in a pesky little monetary fine.

Thankfully, as much as I've tried to understand it, I really can't see the "negative issues" that many people here on the forums express. I guess ignorance is bliss? So I'm looking forward to seeing this since I absolutely love the movie. The chainsaw scene early in the movie STILL sends chills down my spine.

You'd think for $1k, a trumped up wooden cancer box would have something exclusive. Like the original Hawks Scarface on Blu-ray or the set personally autographed by Pacino and/or De Palma. I imagine the transfer will be mediocre to "okay" regardless of BD version anyway since Universal don't care about their catalog.

Scarface is being re-released to select theaters on August 31st in anticipation of the Blu-ray release: http://www.fathomevents.com/classics.../scarface.aspx

I think I have to go see this. I wasn't born when the film was originally released, so this could be my last chance to see it on the big screen for all I know. Hope the PQ/AQ will be decent.

I wonder if this means Universal actually did a new transfer for the BD?

if he's a big fan, why not. For me I will just stick with the movie.

It didn't for BTTF.

All 3 BTTFs were new transfers for BD, but like Apollo 13 and Animal House, they are actually worse than the previous ones. I expect the same for Scarface.

Also the D-Cinema presentations of BTTF1 actually used the old 2002 transfer. I promise you I have this info on extremely good authority.

Right. The Scarface humidor that's expensive isn't what you see there (the wooden box).

As a cigar aficionado myself, I have to say... that it's a very nice humidor from what I'm seeing and hearing based on the vid (which does actually talk about the REAL humidor that's 1k). It's only limited to 1,000 sets as well, so it's going to be rare.

Very very nice humidor, for one that holds 100. Even designed by one of the most reliable humidor designers/makers in the world... but is it worth a grand? Nahhhh. You're basically paying for its limited and rare nature. I personally could NEVER justify spending more than $300 on a really nice humidor.

I guess you have never seen the Aristocrat Humidor's.

Until the other day when I watched the original, I didn't know that Scarface was a remake. It's nice that they're going to include the original movie with the BD of the remake.

The original is excellent

I didn't know they were including the Paul Muni version with the BD (which I think they also did with the 25th Anniversary DVD box set, but I could be wrong on that); that makes my decision to buy it a little easier.

I have, and they're certainly built to last. However, although I fancy me a cigar on a regular basis, I don't have enough money to buy cigars a box at a clip, only to store them so I'll be able to smoke some of my favorite kinds over the years after being properly stored in a humidor at home. I really only would ever need a box that holds 100, and maybe I would even consider a box that holds 250-300. But that's it. So, I'm not saying humidors past $300 aren't worth the money for those that would use it as long as they're built well... I'm just saying for me, personally, I couldn't justify more than that amount.

Are you sure? as it had the same DNR as the BD when I saw it in the UK
post #54 of 154
no dnr on the Dcinema of bttf I 100% guarantee and it was from the same master as the canal and wowow caps were from.
Unless they showed the BD in UK at the cinema but the dcinema that was shown in US was as I said in the above statement.
It also looks decent and actually like film heh.

What about the HDTV "release" - is that from the 2002 transfer? The blu-ray looks like almost exactly the same but with added DNR/EE...
The blu-ray is squished vertically as you can see from below, also yes the HDTV and dcin are both from 2002.
The blu-ray is the image on the left and HDTV master on right

So if the HDTV version is from 2002, it seems strange that the new blu-ray transfer almost looks identical (not counting the EE/DNR, and vertical squeeze).

Side note - i've only seen the first two movies, but BTTF2 looked less processed than the first (DNR, but a lot less EE)

The Uk had DNR I posted as I left and it's in the thread to see. I noticed it the second the first full face shot came up.

Oh and back to Scarface:

^^^ You know, he got that scar from eating pineapple ......

I see, for Universal at least a good looking transfer, Sony would not be losing any sleep tho
