I have a Panasonic tc-p46c2 and a BD65 BluRay player. I also have a Toshiba A505 laptop with HDMI. Comcast and Linksys wireless router.
I have tried various movies through both the player and the laptop but my aging eyes can't see any difference. Also, playing a standard format DVD (ie not BluRay) through the laptop doesn't look any different than using the BluRay player.
My question: Regarding Netflix, does the BluRay player provide a better quality picture than using the laptop? Both the BluRay player and the laptop are connected to the TV with an HDMI cable. The only technical difference is that the laptop is streaming the data from the wireless router while the player has a direct cable connection. So, I guess the question boils down to whether the wireless router is capable of steaming at the same quality as HDMI
So, is there any advantage to keeping the BluRay player, apart from convenience, the ability to play BluRay discs (on a 720 TV), access to other services such as Vudu, and it's own remote?
