my unit cut all this visible material out and when its gone no one can bring it
back.
i try it with advatar.

i try to find out if some other units suffer from the same thats why i made this post.
unbelievably no one see that???

a friend in germany discover the same bug after i told him that.

so very very likely a lot of units suffer from this bug and no one see it........
Most of us are using active Acer 5360's or Optoma HD66's. These are business projectors made for brightness, with no consideration for black level performance. A passive setup like yours with Home Theater projectors is much more likely to show this problem.
yes i have my solution for my setup as i have a prof. doremi box that do more or less the same
but without this bug.

i try this optoma box for some guys that not like the 3d pr. that are today on the market as they can do "only double flash (2x48 with the flicker)" and the lumen are not
there as well.
some of them have already one jvc or sony full hd lcos pr.and they just need a second
one for a passive set up.
most of the time they can get a secound hand unit very cheap.
this are a inexpensive solution and better than every consumer 3d pr. in normaly
price range.
the bug i report is visible on every display or pr. whatever price range if you know
where to look and the difference is huge.

optoma will not do anything if all people are pleased with the quality this box offers.
If you have to know where to look the difference must not be that huge. Most of us are very happy with our 3D image.

I just bought a 3D-XL in Australia. It comes with the Z201 glasses in the same box.

I'll be setting it up tonight with a mac and xbmc. If I'm successful I'll post how it works. :-)

Would you recommend the latest firmware to be installed?
Everything is up and running and working great.

My setup is:
Optoma hd600x
3d-XL
MacBook air 2010 running fresh install of lion set to 1080/24p output.
XBMC running on lion with a/v sync set to "resample audio" for butter-smooth playback. HW acceleration is also on.
I'm playing 1080p (half-)SBS files on XBMC and letting the 3d-XL do the rest. It works a treat. It is smooth as silk and looks really good.

I have installed the July (c7) firmware and it provides sharper pass-through than c04 which was installed originally.
Wow, I would have put money on that not working out right Grats.

Go to tru3d website, search for 3dxl and download supporting documentation and software. Docs will have fw update instructions plus they have the July firmware. :-)

I know, right? ) you do need a fresh install of Lion as Snow Leopard messed up 1080p playback with HW acceleration at one point. It plays with 10% CPU usage.
Also, if you don't have a perfect sync it's not good so u do need to set the a/v sync option.

guys i dont have a 3D XL yet but i got delivery of a ZD201 first.

the batteries it came with seem to be dead on arrival so i got new batteries. I was going through the manual it came along with and it says...

1. To turn ON 3D glasses: Press the POWER button and the LED will flash one time indicating the glasses are ready to use in 3D mode.

then 2 through 7 and..

8. To turn OFF 3D glasses: Press the POWER button and hold until the LED switches off.

Now my doubts are....

When i Press the POWER button to swtich ON the ZD201 the LED flashes once as per the manual and i can see some flashing in the lenses.

But after flashing once the LED remains off.

Also when i Press the POWER button again to turn if OFF, the LED comes ON to a steady till i let go.

But the manual step 8 says "Press the POWER button and hold until the LED switches off." but the LED only switches OFF only once i let go of the POWER button.

Is the LED light supposed to remain "ON" after step 1 until i do the POWER OFF procedure...?

Regards,

Rana

I don't think the glasses stays on unless the actually recieve the sync signal.

That's correct. The 201's switch off after a little while if they don't detect the sync from the projector. The battery is fine...
thanks guys for clearing my doubts
Anyone with a HD66 wish to share their calibration settings? I've searched a ton but haven't found any that I'm completely satisfied with.
a couple of questions if someone could enlighten me...

the manual says

Quote:

3D Video Compatibility Side-by-Side:1080i50, 1080i60
Frame-pack:1080p24, 720p50, 720p60
Over-Under: 1080p24, 720p50, 720p60

so those are the only input/refresh rates the box handles, and it does no frame rate conversion, only scaling?

My reason for that being important is i'm looking at 3d on a CRT projector and I can't get it to sync above 100hz for 720p, and from what i've seen most 720p 3d is done as 120hz.

and has anyone used this with an xbox 360, particularly for Call Of Duty:Black Ops?
Those are input modes. This thing only outputs 720p120. It will not do 100hz.
xbox cod runs side by side. It works, but the ir port doesn't work so I had to use dlp link glasses, so no good for crt. There may be some device that will support your crt. I know I used to game 3D on a crt with wicked3d drivers for my 3dfx card. That was like 12 years ago

New firmware update coming soon according to Optoma. I just tried to download the firmware again from the Optoma.eu site and I received a pop up that told me I had already downloaded the firmware and that there was a new firmware update coming soon and asked if I would like to be notified by email when it's available.

I hope they fix the settings issues and really, really hope they get the 2D picture quality back to the way it was before the 3D upgrade. I watched True Grit last night and the dark scenes were almost unwatchable. I was ready to dump my 3D setup and get a decent 2D 1080p projector but I guess I'll wait and see what the update brings.

Hey everyone. I bought the Optoma HD66 and the 3D-XL the other day, hooked it up and everything works fine.

However I have a question.
Can this setup also play 2D movies in 3D like a 3DTV does?
If so, what do you do?

I'm guessing you're talking about your projector, not the 3DXL... what settings? :/

You need either a Blu ray player or software like PowerDVD with 2D to 3D conversion. The 3DXL will not do it.

Thanks. I've seen how those look like. Not worth the trouble.
I guess the best 3D is 3D. Conversions just look like a picture sunken into the screen.

???
Then why inquire in the first place?

Same here. :/ it's either the upper or lower range that is cut. I Optimised it so it's balanced at the top abs bottom but my equipment gives me great control.

Where can we report it to Optoma? :/

I was hoping that if the conversion was done through the 3D-XL or HD66 projector that it would be a different story (being the unit itself). But 2D to 3D conversion otherwise would look no different from my Sony's 3DTV conversion which is really nothing worth writing home about.
Well, look how bad professional offline 2D - 3D conversions go (Clash of the Titans, The Last Airbender) They took months to turn out bad results. Instant doesn't have a chance till video processors are hundreds of times more powerful. Even then it would only be with a huge database of all known objects. The problem is hold a notebook edgewise on your nose. One eye can see the front of the note book and whatever scribble you have on it, the other eye sees the back of the notebook, and whatever is back there. A mono camera only sees the edge, it has no idea there is stuff on the front or back, or even how wide the notebook is. I imagine sometime in the future a video processor will be able to read ahead enough to make a database of 3d objects out of different frames, and of course have a built in database of every car/building/road known.

Doe anyone have a HD600x connected up to their 3D-XL? If so, could you tell me if you get a 3D menu in the projectors menu? I don't have one, and I can't get 3D working either.

Thanks...

You can't switch into 3D. The projector automatically does that when the 3dxl switches to 120hz which only happens if:
1. The 3dxl is fed frame sequential
2. It is fed frame packed signal
3. You press the SBS button if you have side-by-side content.
