xbox cod runs side by side. It works, but the ir port doesn't work so I had to use dlp link glasses, so no good for crt. There may be some device that will support your crt. I know I used to game 3D on a crt with wicked3d drivers for my 3dfx card. That was like 12 years ago

Re the IR port not working that's not quite correct. If you're using an amp to route video to a port on the 3dxl You can trick the 3dxl into activating the IR port for SBS by feeding it a frame packed source like a 3d blu ray player or a ps3 (in my case I just throw socom or kill zone in the ps3) with the emitter plugged in. After that swap input on your amp over to the xbox 360 and hit the SBS button. I have done this myself and got the 3dtv Corp emitter to talk to my genuine nVidia glasses at the same time. It's a very convoluted work around though and really not good enough on Optoma's part.

MacBook air 2010 running fresh install of lion set to 1080/24p output.
XBMC running on lion with a/v sync set to "resample audio" for butter-smooth playback. HW acceleration is also on.
I'm playing 1080p (half-)SBS files on XBMC and letting the 3d-XL do the rest. It works a treat. It is smooth as silk and looks really good.

I have installed the July (c7) firmware and it provides sharper pass-through than c04 which was installed originally.

Nice one. I'll give the new or newER ( if there's one coming) firmware a go . I bought my 3dxl from eastwood hifi about 3mths ago. Reasonably expensive down here but excellent results with it

if i connect my bluray player via HDMI to my AVR input and then from AVR output to 3D-XL HDMI input and from 3D-Xl output to Projector input, then will it work fine or do i have to connect the Bluray player output directly to the HDMI input of the 3D-XL ?
Depends on what kind of AVR you have...if it has 1.4 HDMI inputs then yes you go Blu-ray > AVR > 3DXL....if the AVR is just 1.3 you will need to run Blu-ray > 3DXL as well as Blu-ray optical cable > AVR

You will lose DTS-MA and TrueHD....however thats the limitation unless you bought a blu-ray player that has dual HDMI outs (panasonic DMP-BDT310).
or get a HDMI splitter. Or do what I did and buy a new hdmi 1.4 AMP.
thanks for the input guys. i'm looking at the new Yamaha A3010 which is 1.4 Hdmi. :-)

My other concern was that the 3D xl does not have a remote and when i switch on the mains power the 3D xl starts in standby mode. Then i have to walk up to the AV stand to press the power button on the 3D xl.

Is there a way so that when i switch on the mains the 3D xl comes directly to ON position with the Green light so that i don't have to make the extra walk ?

Regards,

Rana
I just leave my 3DXL on all the time.
I use both inputs.... And it is never on the right one it seems. One for Direct TV 3D and the other one for 3D Bluray.

So I find I have to walk the walk anyways.

Does a Samsung 3D Bluray Player work with the 3DXL?

I ordered the Samsung BD6700 yesterday which comes with a 2D to 3D converter. And according to reviews. it's the best performing 2D to 3D converter out there. Reviews from Amazon and this forum...

"That 2D to 3D upconvert? Hmmm... I've only played around with it, and honestly didn't expect much from it, but it's surprisingly good."

"Pretty good! Not "leap off the screen" good, but "actual depth" good, sometimes quite surprising."

"One of the best features that makes this Blu Ray Player stand out is the 2D to 3D conversion. I also have 2D to 3D conversion on my 2011 Samsung flagship tv...but it doesn't even compare to how good the conversion on this player."

"The 2D to 3D feature is amazing."

"The 2D-to-3D conversion is excellent! That's why I got this player, and I'm LOVING it. Since I've been putting in tons of overtime at work, I've only watched three Blu-ray movies using the conversion thus far (STARSHIP TROOPERS, Peter Jackson's KING KONG, and THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY) and was extremely impressed with the results."

Now of course, nothing will ever come close to true 3D but this player does seem to be the best in 2D to 3D conversion.

Just received my Samsung BD6700 Bluray Player.
Now to see how well this thing does on 2D to 3D Conversion.

I'll let everyone know by this weekend.

I have just updated software and it has not cured the 1080i problem. This seems worse on channels that run "film" content....like Sky Atlantic HD. The problem occurs whether the material is ok UK or US origin.

No difference if the Sky box is set to 1080i or to Automatic. Still get interlacing problems.

Channels that run "video" content like Sky News seem fine.

I'm intruiged how some people say the new software has cured the problem for them, while others (like me) still have it?

Any ideas?

The Samsung Bluray Player BD-D6700 2D to 3D Converter TOTALLY ROCKS!
Images with POP, deep rich colors and depth. 10 times better than your adverage 2D to 3D converter on an 3DTV.

Works good with my HD66/3D-XL setup, however looks best on my 3DTV.
In the end you can't beat 1080P and I'm certainly not complaining.

Just picked up the latest Star Wars Bluray Boxset and I'm right now getting my mind blown away by Star Wars 3D. LOOKS FANTASTIC!

This Samsung BD-D6700 rocks!

Nice, I did some SW conversions with the HTPC when I ran one. I was surprised at how well the SW movies translated to 3D converted in general.

Maybe this is not the place to ask (I know there were some direct comparison threads back in the day), but anyway: I'm considering buying a 3D converter, and I can't decide between the 3DXL and the 3D displayer.

The optoma solution is cheaper and readily available in my country, plus it has a pair of glasses included, but I've heard it can have some issues.

The 3d-displayer is great, but having a 3dlp projector (acer h5360), i really don't need the extra "3d on any display" processing unit (which makes the item more expensive).

So the question is (already answered a million times, probably): how's the compatibility with the acer? How are the included glasses? Anything special I should be aware of?

I've read the specs a billion times, I was following this thing since it was announced, and now I can have for a really good price (half that of the 3d-displayer, by the way).

Price is not a concern, though. I just want a viable all-round solution to play any 3d source on my pj for at least another year/a couple of years. I'm mainly interested in 3D console-gaming, since 3d pc gaming and blurays are done via pc directly to the pj.

Sky and 3d broadcasting also being an interesting point.

Thanks in advance.

All I can tell you is that I have the 3DXL and I absolutely love it!
Great quality, Zero Crosstalk and what I love most are the 3D Glasses that it brings. They fit super comfortable on your face and you completely forget you even have then on. Not like a 3DTVs 3D glasses that feel like you have a tight heavy vice wraped to your head.
The 3DXL rocks!

Only thing better would be Optoma's new DLP 1080p HD33 3D Projector that doesn't require any adaptor 3DXL unit. But at $1600 coconuts, that will have to wait for another day.

Well, yes, the new Optoma is tempting, but being one of the first 1080p 3D projectors, I'll wait.

My acer is still going strong, and I really like it, so I have no urge for an upgrade yet.

My concerns with the 3D-XL come from reading some users' feedback about it being not so plug-and-play, so compatibility and ease of use are major concerns.

As I said, my setup goes like this: xbox/ps3/htpc---acer5360. So the 3d-xl would fit just in the middle to ensure 100% 3D compatibility.
My only complaint is the lack of a remote to switch 3D modes, otherwise it works great.
Can you guys recommend an HDMI splitter, preferably from monprice. I have directv and a htpc. I guess I need to run the directv to the 3d-xl and then to the acer 5360 to get it to work. I have a new Pioneer elite receiver that is 1.4a but apparently there a problems with directv.

I have two projectors the acer, for 3d and a benq W5000 so a splitter is needed. Thanks.
Did you try running the the 3DXL to the amp? directv+pc > 3DXL > Pioneer > Projector
Just a thought.
I just send my Direct TV 2D to my 2D projector via Component video in the theater.

G-day .. from Australia ..

Have a Optoma HD66 ceiling mounted in my lounge which projects a 124" screen, expecting delivery of the 3D-XL today by Fedex .. so will set it up tonight (like i can wait!?) .. and have a 3D Resident Evil - After Life ready to test out.

My few questions are:
1- Is the 3D-XL limited by the amount of screen? Is 124" too much?
2- My seating is about 4.5m from the projection, is that too far for a 3D experience? (screen vertical height would be 1.5m)
3- Most movies are 2.85:1 format (maintains the cinema scope - black bars top n bottom) .. however, sometimes i use the projector's display menu to turn it back to native, which means it fills the whole screen with a 16:9 image - if i do that while in 3D - is that going to affect anything?

Sorry i can't wait to try it out hence the urge to know all of it

BTW, Optoma came out with HD33 which is a 1080 3D projector .. so that will eliminate the need for 3DXL altogether .. specially for the 2x3DXL setups .. the new projector also uses RF glasses .. Not IR, so that's an improvement too!

Cheers!
the 3DXL has nothing to do with the screen size, so no limitations there, the sky is the limit.

I am 8' from a 110" screen 16:9 screen.

I am locked out of aspect ratio control when in 3D on my projector.

You using IR with your HD66? I am using DLP-LINK with my GT700
post #1587 of 1719
4.5 meters would put you in the next room from my screen. That is a crazy far distance. Move you couch up. I sit 7' from my 120" screen. Some people like the 11 foot seating distance. I wouldn't mess with the aspect anyway.

The 2 - 3DXL setups are for passive projection, and haven't been replaced yet, nor will be for quite a while. passive projection is still the only way to get 1080P60 3D for gaming.

I'm in the UK and about to buy a 3DXL to go with my Optoma HD700x projector. I would like to use my Samsung 2010 plasma tv IR 3d glasses (SSG 2100). I believe I need an IR transmitter to plug into the 3dxl, could anyone advise on the best one to get and that can be posted to the UK?
Thanks
Dan

You need the one on amazon that says it will work with Samsung Orig Glasses. I still have no idea why some emitters work only with samsung third party glasses.

Ok Guys!

I got the 3DXL hooked up last night - couldn't get the firmware to upgrade (must be a faulty USB stick) - but anyways, the setup is simpler than a piece of cake!

You guys are right, sitting 4.5m away is useless - I saw some bits of the 3D experience from half that distance (2.5-3m) (8-9feet) and it looks amazing! .. The projector does go darker but i put it on the bright mode (not the lamp bright, the view mode bright/classroom/presentation) and the darker contrast compensates .. a very good experience!

I did get the image to go 16:9 as the HD66 allows it, so that helped with the screen filling your eyes - i did get eye strain and adjustment jitters! .. Tiring to watch 3D!

I use DLP glasses (ZD201) by Optoma, i only have 1 pair that came with the 3DXL, have ordered 3 more from a China company, see how they go when i get them. I did notice they sync out if you move your head to the left or right, but sync back in within a second .. the sync back in doesn't lose the left-right combination .. meaning i do not need to sync-invert. However, when i changed the movie to a different one, the sync-invert went outta whack!

I also used the 2D-3D conversion function on my Samsung Bluray player, and it works a charm .. saw 2D Avatar in virtual 3D .. not the best of resolutions, but on the fly conversion is amazing for depth.. nothing is going to stick out of the screen .. but you can see the whole experience in 3D depth!

So far happy with the setup - might need to change the speaker volumes to accommodate the 3D seating though .. will give it a try over the weekend ..

Now what's a totally mind blowing 3D movie to watch?
