I got my 3D-XL this morning & I've got it connected to my PS3, when I press the SBS button, the image on the screen shows the left hand side of the image in the middle?? & the screen wrapped around & cut in half?.
I'm trying to watch a 3D bluray but when I press play film in 3D, the menu says that it requires a 3D display? & wont play?. But the picture is just a mess?.

Ive called Optoma & they are supposed to be getting back to me, can anyone please shed some light on this for me?.

Cheers,
Scott.

Read somewhere about display settings in PS3 and that it should be set to auto.//Mats

They have started shipping them to customers in the UK (Just Projectors got a lot of 150 in on Friday), so we should start seeing issue (if there are any) starting to crop up quite soon. Mine's due tomorrow.

I've got a Optoma HD67 so hoping nothing major, as it seems to be the recommended projector for the unit. Time will tell. Can't wait!!

I had that issue with my PS3 and the Mitsu DLP 3D adapter. What I needed to do was go back into the video output settings on the PS3 WITH THE 3D ADAPTER connected, and re-set up the HDMI output capabilities. When I selected auto-detect, it came up to a new screen saying something like "we see you're 3D compatible, would you like to use this feature?" Then it asked what size screen I have, then I was all set... Try that.

Consignia.ca has changed their estimated arrival date for the 3d-xl to Feb.28.
I spoke to Optoma today and was told that the date for the 3d-xl is the end of the month or early March.
Same story we heard in December and then in January. How long can this go on?
I guess it goes on until I actually have one in my hot little hands.
Well, I think I could really get PO'd at somebody but it would just be a repeat performance of Dec. and Jan.
LOL

So sorely tempted, but my PayPal account just got hijacked over the weekend. So I guess I couldn't, even if I wanted to.
I was really hoping to get my hands on one of these before I got Killzone 3 for the PS3, which is one of the first 3D console Shooters. I've been playing the beta and loving it. I could see that it would be awesome in 3d, but it looks like I may be waiting till March...

Come on Optoma, release it already! My legs are getting tired chasing after this carrot you've held in front of my nose for the last few months!

Odd he mentions the 720p output to be an issue on softness in the PQ As the projectors it is made for are also 720p!!!!

I wonder what screen he was using for the testing.

Nothing on what title(s) he screened? Nothing on Viewing postions / distance? He inverted and was amazed at how much better it was? I mean he could not tell it was inverted?

I mean, we want the details here. This is just one of those products you have to get and use to really know how it performs.
That isn't a 720p projector for one thing. It is a 1280x800. If 720p is stretched to fit it will be soft. Silly not to use a much more standard HD66 or Acer H5360
post #348 of 1725
Most of the 1280x800 projectors actually do not scale when sent 720p. They just use less pixels. So I do not think that added to his soft PQ woes.
Well im not as tech informed as you guys. It's reassuring that you guys know what he did wrong. It didnt look like a good review for sure I was hoping you guys would know something more.
ProjectorPlanet should have them to people in the UK tomorrow 16/02. Mine has been dispatched, tomorrow cannot come quick enough!

Yeah... pretty poor review. I wonder how many of the "issues" he noted were due to him watching this with the sync inverted.

I wondered that as well.

Regarding scaling artifacts, if the PS3 is coupled with the 3DXL, can the PS3 send HDMI 1.4 framepacked 720p instead of framepacked 1080p by disabling 1080p playback in the PS3 display options? Then the PS3 does the scaling instead of the 3DXL.

LOL

A professional reviewer (even if he/she made this same mistake) would have rewatched the content with the correct invert and then wrote up a review... this guy is a moron

I've seen others around this price as well. I think the street price is going to be around $349...

Edit: I just read the review. No surprise that downscaling 1080P is going to look soft. Doing this on the fly for both eyes, I doubt if this thing has the bandwidth for it. I would only buy it for satellite or cable watching where you can select a 720p signal. Also, it was a hoot when he talked about having issue with 3D convergence and doing the sync invert. Obviously, this guy wasn't that well versed on how 3D works. I agree, though, that program logos are going to be annoying if they are pushed out of the screen since your eye will constantly have to converge and reconverge trying to see into the frame beyond the logos. That's one issue that the broadcasters are going to get a lot of complaints about, I think. For us HTPC guys, though, the 3DXL is about the only way to get a good 3D TV signal into our machines other than the AVERTV card, which is not totally user friendly.

Thanks for the link, I spoke to them and they just right now have a part number from optoma but it could be a bit on them getting any in....but that is a great price, lets hope we see a lot more like it!
threed123... I can say that from my HTPC? The 720p @ 120hz looks amazing and very sharp. I still think the guy was doing something odd causing the softness. Hard to say.

I got an e-mail from J&R Music World this morning saying that my 3dxl is still on backorder and should be arriving soon. No big deal but the great thing is that they haven't charged my credit card yet which is a good thing.
My 3D-XL has just arrived! (ordered through Planet Projector in UK) Got a bit of work to finish off and then going to test on 3D Blu-Ray, SKY 3D and PS3 on an Optoma HD67.

Surprisingly compact bit of kit (about the size of an A4 sheet of paper and about 2 inches thick). Came with a pair of ZD201's which are significantly smaller and lighter then the old ZD101's, and are more like the active shutter glasses you get with 3D TV's.

Let the fun begin!

You across the seas people who are getting your 3d-xls are making me sick lol, I am really itching to get this thing.
