I point out that I hear it in "native DD5.1", not 2-channel stereo upmixed/matrixed or any other processing to boost the center channel. This is not artificially produced/processed surround-sound to reach all speakers artificially. It's the untouched decoded DD5.1 fed to the discrete channels as intended by the broadcaster, as fed that way to my AVR.

The C channel in the DD5.1 feed is plain and simple too low, with respect to L/R. VU meters for each channel tell the truth.

No, if they would just tell Scotty he sucks I would be happy. I just don't see how they criticize Haley and then some dork that looks like George Bush and Alfred E. Newman did it comes out and does gymnastics with his eyebrows and holds the mic like a piccolo and sings one note and sings some boring song and can do no wrong. I'm pretty sure Simon would have destroyed some of his "performances".

It's not an insult to country music to say Scotty sucks. It's an insult to country music to say that based on the crap he's done on Idol that he'd fit right in.

I listen in STRAIGHT (5.1 in = 5.1 out) mode and have found no such problem. Not saying that the problem isn't real for you, just that it doesn't exist for me.

Just like the hate for those singers who "make the song their own" only to have it revealed later that it was a blatant copy of another version?

Just like the hate for all those guest judges who had nothing to say?

Just like the hate for Ellen, who had nothing to say, and Kara, who had too much to say?

Just like the hate for the house band and the bland pop arrangements?

Just like the hate for the forgettable songs written especially for the finalists to sing?

I guess it's a good thing that none of the "hate" from seasons 1-9 was rehashed in this thread.

It's very common for multichannel recordings - SACD and DVD-Audio - to have the center channel at low levels. Personally I think that's a bad thing and probably done because most people's center speaker isn't as good as their front right and left. But given a good sound system, like mine is, you want stuff from stage center to mostly come out of the front center speaker, for sound stability. Regardless, aside from directionality, there's no reason a mix with low center levels can't sound just as good.

In my case, my AVR is set to automatically select the processing mode or direct. It does end up at ProLogic 2, which I discovered when I checked, and the end result is that the front right and left are low and most of the sound is from the front center. Since it's always sounded fine, I never felt the need to experiment, but I will play around tonight to see if I can get the direct 5.1 feed.

Fox is s**** bricks right now. McCreery is GUARANTEED the win if Reinhart goes; people will say it's unfair and surely it'll be the most lopsided result ever...

Edit: pfft, now hear it's a rumour (despite a big pile of blogs posting it). I was kinda hoping it was true, at least bring some drama to a horrific season.

Well her voice did sound beat to hell in that first song... granted I haven't been watching since the top 12 so I don't know if it's been like that in recent weeks.

Thoughts on the lack of judges? Yes what they say is useless, but now it's just Ryan Seacrest, commercials, and teenage karaoke.

The audio is great tonight. You can actually hear the strengths and shortcomings in the voices. Including the autotune on whoever that is onstage right now. Those who were complaining about the light center channel should be happy tonight.

Center's still light for me but it does sound surprisingly good.

Lauren wins based on that, but I still can't call myself a fan of either of them.

I like both Scotty and Lauren and whoever wins it - well fine. I keep forgetting which one I bet on so I guess I'm over it for the season.

I haven't watched the show yet but I am always anxious to see what Scotty will do next. He is so versatile and is willing to step out of his comfort zone and really push the limits. IN IT TO WIN IT.
