Sony or Samsung 55"? 3D or not? Which one?

I'm in the market for a 55" TV to hang above the fireplace, and planned on getting a Sony because I get a "family" discount. Strangely, Amazon has them for just a tad more, but it includes a Playstation and 3D kit, so I'll probably go through them.

Since the discount doesn't really matter, I am also looking at Samsung. Could someone please tell me what is the comparable model?

I really don't care about 3D, but I was told the 3D TVs have better 2D picture quality. Is this true and is it worth the extra money? If not, what model (regular) Sony or Samsung would you get?

All in all, would you get the Sony just because of the deal? (Ironically, it lists the KDL-55HX810 as being part of the offer, but won't let me add it)

Thanks

55" HX810? You've probably mistaken it as the NX810, not HX, unless you mean't the HX800.
However, both those models are 3D ready but also have one of the best 2D performance. IMO, I would get that deal with the free bundle, and in case you don't need it, SELL IT! The sales cost for the freebies can contribute to a lower overall price tag! its a win win

Amazon now has a 3D bundle for the UN55C7000 and UN55C8000. It includes the blu-ray player and the Shrek/glasses combo kit for free.

Two questions:

1.) The 8000 is $100 more. Is it worth it? What are the main differences between that and the 7000 model? Just the local dimming and SSteel trim?

2.) Would you get the Samsung or the Sony NX810? Amazon has been out of stock on the Sony 3D bundle kit for a couple weeks, so maybe that answers my question.

I want to order this ASAP so any quick advice would be great.

I looked at all three of these, and chose the Sony NX810 (60"). Between the Samsungs, I prefer the 8000, and yes, to me it's worth an additional $100 (mostly because local dimming noticably improves the PQ)

I strongly suggest you go look at these at a store or two before picking though...

Terrence,

Why do you refer people to that website in all your posts?

http://tv-compare.blogspot.com

It's not a particularly useful website, as it just shows manufacturer specs. Do you work for them?

I've also asked him that before and received no reply. Posts like that offer nothing to the discussion at hand and simply clutter the thread.

you must like neck pain and headaces if your going to mount it over the fireplace. and it wont look as good as mounting it at eye level.
