'The Amazing Race' on CBS HD - Page 41

I'm wondering if the producers have fallen back on some of the things they used to do. For example, as part of the selection process, teams were flown to an unknown location and given tasks to do much like roadblocks, detours, and route infos to make sure the teams could find their way. It just seems like they are making more mistakes than others in the past (and more basic ones, too).

That's the inspiration behind my question. The mistakes do seem like basic ones in a way that are almost hard to believe that they survived "the cut" process.

The Bingo team could have possible been the worst team of all time. So many critical mistakes in such a short time on the race.

The Bingo team, especially the big guy, did not seem cut out for foreign travel. He was having problems dealing with Spanish, a language not uncommon in the U.S. Imagine how he would have reacted in India or China or Ethiopia? Ultimately, he just had a brain fart. Fatigue and panic probably clouded his judgment. I suspect he probably assumed that all the shoeshine vendors were part of the race.

I guess that's really it with them (bingo). They seemed truly out of place. While I've seen "weaker" teams, I don't think I can say anyone looked out of place. Not even the (Kentucky?) boys from a couple seasons ago.

Hmm, I did not think they were that bad. They got bad information at a bus station, and one guy missed the marked cart in the dark. We have seen teams make similar mistakes in broad daylight. They may have been fans of the show and remembered there was a season where they traveled by bus. I believe that season had one bus that made a bunch of stops while another was an express trip. The express bus left later, but arrived sooner. Even the late bus got them there in time to pass up the other teams.

Rule : When a Shoe Shine Man says, Move on, I'm working .. that should be a pretty good tip off you've got the wrong cart .. wink.gif

I would have liked to see that guy get some money for his troubles. The way he was just dropped immediately once the racer realized he wasn't doing it right... it just didn't rub me right. You force a local to stop doing his job, teach you how to do something, pack up all your stuff, and walk it down to an address. That's a good hour or so of work right there that's lost. Give the guy $5 or something at least!

perhaps he did but we didn't get to see that? i know. likely not. and you can bet the bingo team were feeling like **** about the whole thing as they watched that episode.

anyway, i still find the completely careless mistake of taking a taxi when clue specifically says not to the most unforgivable of mistakes the racers make.

They don't/can't carry extra cash with them, can they?

Only what's given to them at the beginning of the leg. Can they keep any leftover money from previous legs?
From previous legs, yes.

Which brings up an interesting tidbit - we haven't seen a team run out of money in MANY seasons. What gives?! They got a ton of money for this leg so I figured they were going to someplace expensive like London or Paris. Instead it's... Santiago?!

He said it in his native language, which the racer did not speak so he had no idea what he was saying (I can't believe I just defended that guy).

I remember seeing it once and it wasn't very many seasons ago, like within the past three to five I think. It was two guys and I remember they couldn't pay for transportation or they overpaid for transportation or something so they had to walk. Within that same time period (of past seasons) it seems like I remember a woman basically begging locals for money so they could continue. The details of that one are less familiar though.

There have been several instances over the years of contestants begging for money.

In previous seasons, the last place team in a non-elimination leg had to surrender all their remaining money and start the next leg without any as the penalty. I'm glad they did away with that.

Yes, thanks for your great memory. I knew it was a common practice at the time, but the reason for it had slipped my mind.

I'm pretty sure that was a long time ago. It started back in Season 5. Remember the one season where Phil mugged them and took away all their possessions as well?

I remember that and I sure hope they never go back to it. That's like that show Cutthroat Kitchen, which is an awful show!

True but the two guys dressing up in stupid clothes so they'd have to run the rest of the race like that if it was a non-elimination was just hilarious.

I agree on both points. It is "on them" when the teams screw up but when you're at the mercy of airport delays, broken down taxis, and ignorant taxi drivers, that's when the race seems a bit unfair.

Agreed. That why I believe they should at least take the taxis out of the equation and make the teams rely on driving themselves everywhere. At least then it's on them if something happens.
