Best bang for buck speaker package from BB

I am setting up my first HT and am trying to keep costs down as much as possible. I will probably be using a Denon AVR-791 for the receiver and was considering the following from best buy (I want to take advantage of the 3yrs 0% interest). I really like the specs on the DT's. The room is 17' x 16' and I will just be doing 5.1 but may want to use the other 2 channels sometime in the future or for multiroom. What do you all think of the following choices?

- Definitive Technology - ProCinema 600 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System
- Klipsch - HD Theater 500 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System with Powered Subwoofer
- Klipsch - HD Theater 300 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System with Powered Subwoofer

Skip the Klispch HD speakers, they're not that good.

Can you have bookshelf speakers? With a room that size you really want more than small satellites.

You should really look at the new Pioneer speakers. Those are the best bang for the buck.

FS51 towers

C21 center

BS21 surrounds

And if you buy the towers and center you can get a discount the BS21 surrounds.

They also have a Pioneer subwoofer but you might want something larger for your room.

If you can only have satellites then go for the Def Techs or maybe Mirage MX1300

Be aware buying at Best Buy will not "keep costs down as much as possible"
The Klipsch - HD Theater 300 only has a 6.5 inch subwoofer. I woud mark that one off the list. A 17x16 room will need more thana 6.5 in sub. You really need a 12 inch but 8 is better than 6.5. I have not heard the Def Tech system but it has 2 8 inch woofers in the sub so that might be the best option for you. Best buy has a return policy so if you dont like it you could always return it. I think the Denon is a good choice.

When you factor in 3 years 0% interest vs buying on credit card, yes, it very well could keep the costs down. Normally I don't do my shopping at Best Buy.

The bottom range of this Def system is what had me interested and I was just throwing in the Klipsh as alternate choices but was not very set on them.

My other option is this, I have Boston T830's which are old but still sound good that I could use as mains but I am worried about matching them. I am told by Boston Acoustics that any of their centers should match well (I am not sure how much I believe that). If I were to try and use my T830's I have considered the following options:

- Purchase Boston CS 225C Center - 2 bookshelf as surrounds - Bic or Lava Sub
- Purchase the Def system mentioned above and see how the T830's sound as mains.

Specs on the T830's are:
15 - 100 watts, 90db sensitivity, 8"woofer, 3.5"midrange, 1"tweeter, 10"w X 9.5"d X 32.5"h - non ported - 45Hz-20kHz ±3dB

In all honesty I had not even considered them because I have always heard that the receiver manufacturers do not make very good speakers. I will have to take a look at them.

The Pioneer's were designed my renowned speaker designer Andrew Jones. He was given a price point and used the best materials he could to make a nice affordable speaker. They sound very good for the money.

The need more power than your typical Polk or Klipsch speaker but the sound is very balanced and non fatiguing.

Not to bring financial advice on here, but wouldn't it be cheapest to save the money until you can buy the system in cash from a cheaper online store?

Exactly what I would recommend

That theory does NOT apply to the Pioneers recommended. Pioneer actually makes some great speakers. These pioneers will have a larger sound stage than any of the 3 systems you chose and would sound amazing

That theory applies to Onkyo speakers

Yes it would, but since when is HT financially sound? Let's face it, it is like buying a boat. Besides "cheaper online store" does not always = happier in the end. I know it is hard for some to resist going off-topic, but "where" I buy them was not meant to be a focus of this thread even though I mentioned BB was where I was looking at the asked about speakers.

When best buy charges $180 for something in their store when I can buy the same thing from a registered online polk dealer for $80 then ask yourself where is the smart place to buy.

Okay, those Pioneers do sound like contenders. How does the the following sound as another option:

Mains: My T830's
Center: BA CS 225c
Surrounds: BA CS23 or CS26 (which would be better sounding?)

The above Centers and Bookshelfs are being closed out so the prices are low and reviews are good.

Sub: One of the BIC's or I also like what I read about the Lavasubs.

Well if that was the case with what I am actually talking about here, then I would not even be considering BB. I am not looking at Polk, and the products I have mentioned here, have not been considerably cheeper anywhere else.

That is just one example I have seen the same thing happen with those POS klipsch systems as well.

Newegg is constantly running sales and the shi*ty klipsch has been on sale there before and also on amazon too

I agree with checking online, you will probably spend 30% less. Check out www.vanns.com they offer discounted return shipping if you are not satisfied.

As do I, I buy from NewEgg and MonoPrice, etc... all the time. Rarely do I buy from BB but I wanted opinions on those packages I started the thread with and if you follow the thread, I am looking at other options as well. I should have clarified in my first post that by stating I was trying to keep the costs down as much as possible, I was referring to the price range of speakers I was considering. BB just happened to be where I first saw the packages that I started the thread with.

You could try out the BA center and see if it matches your fronts. For the surrounds, I like my surrounds to be able to go pretty low because I think it helps when listening to 5.1 music. The CS26 might will probably get a bit lower than the 23 because it has a bigger woofer. For movies, I don't think you will be able to tell much of a difference. Have you listened to the pioneers yet. If you think your T830s sound better than the pioneers then I would say to keep them and try to build around them.
