Need help with Samsung Tantus and Pioneer 434.

Hi Everyone,
I have a 55" Samsung Tantus HDTV that I hooked a Pioneer 434 DVD player to using the component outputs. It wasn't mine just a friends. When I switched it to progressive out the picture was really jittery and unwatchable. Once I went back to interlaced things were normal. My question is this. Is my Tantus unable to accept a progressive input from a DVD or is this a problem with the Pioneer as it's not a true progressive scan? Any help truly appreciated. I want to buy a Toshiba 6200 but would hate to have a compatability issue.
Thanks and Happy Holidays.

I'm no expert, but your Tantus probably has a better line double than the 434. The 434 in NOT a true progressive player. All that it does is line double. It does NOT do 3:2 pulldown or 4:4:4 video. The 6200 will do ALL of these.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Dan,
I'm clearly no expert either (pretty obvious) but the 434 is not my player of choice. The 6200 would be my first pick but I don't want to buy it if it will not work with my TV in progressive mode. Any one else have any thoughts on this? I'd imagine if the signal my Tantus is getting is a line doubled signal then it would confuse the internal doubler http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/confused.gif

I have connected the 6200 to the Tantus 55" that you have with no problems. I can only think of one reason why the 434 is having problems on your tantus.

It could be that the tantus is taking the "line doubled" signal, and then "line doubling" it again. I had this problem on the 40" Samsung Progressive scan LCD projection set once. It turns out there was no way to turn off the internal doubler. In fact, the set only allowed interlaced input with the component video inputs.

My recommendation? Good cables and a better DVD player.

Dan,
I have the HJC 552W is this the same set you have? I can only assume it is. I agree with your assumption that it's just a compatability issue with the 434. Since you have the same set up I have can I feel comfortable buying the 6200?
