Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 - Page 3

Harry Potter 6 had some similar stuff going on in a couple of scenes, like the Pensieve flashbacks. A side-affect of the "magicky" post processing perhaps?
Meh. Bigger problems in the world.

Looks like compression artifacts, possibly due to insufficient bitrate allocated for those particular moments and amounts of motion. Perhaps the same deal in the shot with Hermione's edgy complexion.

Could they be using some sort of filter to disguise how old the lead actors are looking these days ? i.e 30 not 15 ? like the way they shot starlets in those 1930s/40s black and white movies. Radcliffle looks a lot older in publicity shots than he does in the movies.

make up works, i mean they're still in their lower 20's, not like they have wrinkles.

Just received shipping confirmation from Amazon UK for the steelbook. Here's hoping it gets here before the estimated delivery date of May 6th.

Watched this one last night. First time seeing the movie, no familiarity with the books and it's been a while since I watched the previous movies in the series so it was a bit of a task playing mental catch-up with everything at first. Definitely like the darker tone of this movie compared to some of the previous ones. My wife fell asleep halfway through, but what are ya gonna do?

Anyway, I thought the transfer was just alright. There's some mild banding on a few of the darker scenes. However, I noticed earlier in this thread some people were concerned about the soundtrack - it *is* DTS-MA on the English audio.

I'm planning on the FYE exclusive but I didn't preorder it. I will wait till I see it in person, the price, and if there are any opinions about this exclusive.

looking forward to watch it next week.

Can anyone confirm that the 1-disc version will have DTS-MA or is it stripped down?

Yes, it has DTS-HD MA 5.1.

This movie had an interesting look in theaters; it was rather dark and soft in some spots. I saw it twice and was talking to the manager of the first theater, who mentioned that Warners had actually sent an e-mail to theaters telling them to be prepared for people complaining about the look of the film.

Nothing wrong with VC-1 per se just that the codec tends to lose fine detail with the average low bitrates Warner is notorious for using. AVC tends to retain fine detail better at comparable low balled bitrates.

The real issue is Warner for some inconceivable reason keeps the rates at the minimal end of things even when there is more than sufficient space left over to be utilized for the main feature.
