Interesting experience with McIntosh MC2205 amp...disappointing

well, I had my Aurum Cantus hooked up to a McIntosh MC2205 amplifier which has TONS of clean power...but....and I am shocked that I'm saying this... IT WAS LIFELESS!!! Sounded like absolute garbage!!!

I had previously a McIntosh MC7106 and although a different design sounded MUCH MUCH better. I just don't get it. I sold the MC2205 for a nice little profit...but I wasn't sad to see it go.

I hooked the speakers back up to my Onkyo TX-NR1007 and they were so much better and alive. Now...not nearly as good as when I was feeding them real power from say the MC7106 bridged to 300wpc, or the Marantz MA500's bridged but better still by far than the MC2205.

so...what gives? Am I nutz? or was I really hearing a difference from an "amplifier"? Which I never thought could be possible.

I'm starting to think that maybe there is a difference in amp sounds? or...maybe there was something wrong with that MC2205? I dunno. but it sure was odd to me.

I'm currently looking for another amp to try...maybe a Krell, Classe, Carver etc... but I wanted your thoughts.

It's a +30yr old amp if I looked up the right model. Perhaps it has drifted a bit off spec. Components like electolytic capacitors can/do degrade over time.

Hey Evil,

Check this out. Its close by and if you click on on the pics you can see all the amps in racks. Maybe those are for sale as well.
