Also, I see references in the manual to standby/on switch, but I don't see any front panel indicator that shows that it's in standby mode.
Anybody know how that works?

Re: PAL. The 1st disk I put in was the PAL HKL "The Killer." Worked better than expected. Glad you got your issue sorted out.

Seems I remember reading something like that, but I don't remember where. Anyway I'm leery about upgrading firmware (or software, for that matter) unless I have an issue that the upgrade is going to fix.
But, if you run into that, I'd like to know, just in case.

Have my 610 boxed up and ready to ebay. Gone 3D and ran out of room in home theater setup. New 3D player is also SACD. Before I do all the work of posting it, etc., if anyone is interested in the US just PM me what you'd like to offer. I'm thinking around 70 but who knows these days....

I am looking into purchasing this player mainly to play SACDs. I'd like to connect via HDMI instead of the analog out and what I would like to know from the owners of this player is whether this player can decoded DSD internally and ouput LPCM via HDMI. The Receiver I am considering does not have DSD decoder.
The user manual seems to indicate it can but I'd like to confirm this from someone who actually owns and has test this.
Also any details on what would be the PCM output (24bit/96KHz? etc) would be appreciated!

How did you identify your firmware version?

How tell which firmware version your player has:
HOME MENU,INITIAL SETTINGS,go to OPTIONS (dont enter the submenu),press "DISPLAY" on the Remote Control.


Also remember HKANS update will default to PAL. So if you live in NTSC land after the update you need to follow the directions to reset to NTSC.

Yes, I live in a former NTSC world, but I connect to my HDTV via HTMI. Will setting the NTSC/PAL to auto, with the HDMI output resolution to 1920x1080p be a way to address this in general?

My experience is with NTSC, not multisynch, TV. Connected HDMI. I have to select NTSC otherwise the TV says, "Format not supported".

I do not have to change anything if playing different region DVD. Have some from India and they play fine without changing any settings.

I leave the DVD player at the lower resolution and let my TV do the upconverting. I do this to have SACD multi-channel via HDMI/DSD.

So, you're using HDMI for just audio? Or audio and video?

When using HDMI for both audio/video, I thought you needed to do max resolution on video to get max resolution on audio. But I'm not sure about this at all.

Video/Audio.

If you max video resolution there isn't enough bandwidth to do DSD via HDMI. Video resolution has no effect on DVD audio. You don't have HD Audio on DVD, just dolby digital, etc.

I tried to sell mine but didn't get any serious offers for what its worth.

It is back in my home theater setup and we use if for regular DVD playback and audio CD including DSD.

Today, I've tried the DV610's audio setting at Auto(DSD) via a HDMI 1.4 cable to a Denon 4311ci receiver with the DV610 player set to 1920x1080p output, and the 4311 receiver picks up the SACD audio as DSD.

DVD-Audio discs in the DV610 show up as PCM 96 kHz in the 4311 receiver.

If the DV610 audio is set to just Auto, SACD audio shows up as PCM 88.2 kHz in the 4311 receiver. If DV610 is set to Auto(DSD), the receiver just reports DSD without a bit rate (sounds better than the 88.2 kHz PCM signal, but that's subjective).

Again, this is all with the DV610 video resolution via HDMI set at 1920x1080p.

Cool. Could just be something with the way my Denon 3808 handles the HDMI in for DSD. Or something changed with it in newest firmware for the 610.

For the added value with HKAN's firmware I made a contribution to him via PayPal. For the price of the unit and a contribution we are still way ahead of the game compared to other multi region high end sacd dvd-a units.

I pushed the 610 early on. Now DVD is so yesterday no one really seems to care. The Sony Blurays are doing dsd audio but in my comparison, had a 570 to play with, the Pioneer 610 with HKAN's firmware did a better job.

I've been reading posts about DSD and having a similar issue. I am hoping someone here could shed some light.

I have my DV-610 hooked up via HDMI to my Yamaha RX-V867 which also has an HDMI out going to my monitor.
I should mention my set up is for audio only. I have the HDMI out from the Yamaha connected to my monitor only when I need to make changes to the settings.

Here is the weird thing: I can only get the DSD indicator to light up on the Yamaha when I have it's HDMI out connected to the monitor and while viewing it. If the HDMI output is not connected it will only show the signal as PCM.

So I swapped out the Pioneer and connected my Sony MDP-S370 using the same HDMI cables. Now the Yamaha will display DSD all the time whether or not the HDMI out is connected to my monitor. This is how I was hoping the Pioneer would work.

Is this a problem with the Pioneer? I tried the different resolution settings as many have mentioned here.
I also wonder if the Pioneer is acting this way because I am using the latest HKAN firmware?
Would love to hear what you think and hope that all makes sense.

I have this player connected both by analog 5.1 and digital out.
When attempting to play DTS 96/24 5.1 thru the analog, I get static.
2 channel 96/24 doesn't have the static nor does the 96/24 multi thru the digital out.

Am I missing a setting here, or overlooked something? There are absolutely no other issues with the player in my setup.
