I just watched the criterion version of Se7en on my Sony v60 SXRD. I have to use a separate setting and drop the brightness from 50 to about 20.
Beautiful!

Hi Guys

I have the following Muse Decoders:

- Victor HV-MD2 (My First one)
- Sony MSC-4000 ( I am very happy with it as it has better picture than the Victor HV-MD2)

And now i bought Panasonic AHD100N, i've found this "like new" unit in original box with original acessories in a store at Japan. The item was not sold at it's time and i bought it now.

Now i see that this is more than a simple "Muse Decoder", it has also Dolby Pro Logic Decoding, etc...

Anyone has experience with these? Everything is in Japanese...
Is the picture better than the Sony MSC 4000?

Many Tanks

I can write up a "user's guide" in English if you can send me scans of the manual. (Measurements of the decoder & remote control would also be useful, including placements of buttons, lamps, & connectors.)

The TU-AHD100N is somewhat older than the MSC-4000, as you can see here, so I would not expect as good a decoded picture from it.

Both know their stuff thoroughly - but shipping problems can ruin even the best repair, and Duncan is closer.

There's a third who might work for you if you're in the Midwest. I've never sent a player to him, but I know people who have, and he comes recommended:

Duane Cummins

He's based in Michigan.

Buying or selling a LD player is a risky proposition. Unless it is shipped in the original box you are really taking a huge financial risk. Sure it can still get damaged but a shipping carrier is more likely to cover it if it's in the original box.

Tom

Sorry to hear this. I've used FedEx for my LD-S2 on multiple occasions to both Kurtis and Duncan and have never had a problem.

Hey Guys

Does anyone has experience with HLD X0?

My X0 was bought new, but since it was inside the box so many years, when i removed the tape from the tray, the glue didn't came out...

Now i have another tray to replace the one with the glue. To remove the tray do i have to open the player or can i do the operation by opening the tray and remove it?

Sorry for my ignorance, this might sound stupid, but i really need help on this...

I don't have an answer for you, however, when dealing with "new" units that 15 years old, it probably needs some care. Especially with top-of-the-line piece like your X0, you don't want to do damage by using brittle belts, or gears that need lubricating.

Just my 2 cents.
No, but the unit works sometimes, it works every year...i bought it long ago...
The unit is from 1996...and i bought it in 2003...

It has worked now maybe a total of 20 hours and it's perfect...

The only thing i want to solve is the tray change...

Are you talking about residue left from the tape that was pulled off or actually glue? If it is tape residue, is it hard or sticky?

Tom
Hi

It is "sticky"...
Sticky is very good news. Whenever I have sticky tape residue to remove, I always use heavy duty duct tape. Just dab the residue on the drawer with heavy duty silver duct tape. Regular duct tape may work as well but it is less sticky so it is less effective. You may have to dab it many times to get rid of the sticky residue but it is a method that has ALWAYS worked for me. You can even put the tape over the sticky residue and press/rub it down then pull it off fast like removeing a band aid. I usually do this first to get the worst off and then dab but it may not be needed in your case.

There are different liquids you can use, that are sold in stores, to remove sticky residue but they will damage the finish. Duct tapes works better in my experience anyway.

Let me know how it works out.

Hey Compadres of the giant silver disc, due to shifting intrest in my A/V watching habits- I am thinking of selling off most of my LD collection (currently about 400 discs) and 6 of 8 players. I'm going to keep a select few discs. If i can find a buyer for the lot, what do y'all think it would be worth?
Players;
Pioneer CLD-3080
" " CLD-D604
" " CLD-D560
" " CLD-D504
" " CLD-M90
Marantz LV520
* Yamaha DDP-1 Dolby Digital RF AC-3 processor

The DDP-1 stands out as going for $200-$300 on ebay. I don't think any of the players are high value. I could be wrong.

Horror, Some Music video and a few others not on DVD yet have some value, otherwise $1.00 or 50 cents each may be closer.

I agree the players are not the high end ones so there value is lower, the 604 and 520 are the more valuable ones since they have both AC-3 RF and digital outputs. But you need to have the remotes to go with them.

The Yamaha AC-3 demodulator is the one item with value.

If you have a list you can send it to me kbahr@comcast.net and I can pass it on to a person I know that sometimes buys collections.

My problem is that he X0 tray is made of a "soft" material, not plastic like the most...
If you try to clean it, it "wears" and gets discoloured...

Seriously?
The DDP-1 is the processor with RF, optical, & coax inputs, & six-channel analog output. I paid $25 for each of my two, at a local shop which is usually more expensive than on-line sources.

I have no interest in another player, unless it's MUSE capable. If you have any Japanese animation discs, I might be willing to buy those out at a somewhat higher price, either on a pick-&-choose basis or as a lot if it contains enough material I don't already have.
hey there, been reading the thread for a while and loving it, big time enthusiast of the format here. I am running a Pioneer CLD-D704(the the CLD-59 in the closet as backup) and have run into the weirdest problem. When I watch certain titles (like Aliens Resurrection DTS) the film will appear totally in black and white, with a weird pixellated effect, not unlike a comic book(if that makes sense)

What's weird is that these are titles that appeared totally fine some time ago, and it seems it is the player deciding when to appear in color or black and white. Any input?

Other than that, I love this format, from the AC-3 to the odd Japanese edition of a film that never came state-side...Thanks everyone.

I really need help to replace the "tray" in the X0...

Should i open the player to do it, or can i take it from the outside?

Heads Up!
I just installed the v363 scaler to my pioneer CLD-D704. Picture is unwatchable, I do not recommend it. I want to sell my 900 movies with this player. I will not ship it.
I think I got it, with any luck. I opened the unit and cleaned and resurfaced the rubber around the spindle, as recommended by Kurtis Bahr in a forum post long long ago, and also tightened up a few things. I was amazed to see that even given the age of my CLD-D704, the insides were basically mint, no sign of dust even...guess I am lucky.

I let it all dry then put it back together, threw in a problem title and lo and behold, solid color and sharpness all the way. Rewinding, fast forwarding and skipping chapters don't do anything to degrade the picture as I described, so I am proclaiming this a job well done. I may do this to my spare this weekend too, when I get the chance.

I threw in a handful of titles that had classically given my the color problem, and all but one worked fine. It is a very old copy of The Pirates of Penzance, that simply will not display in color and has a very sparkly image tint to it...would this possibly be laser rot?

You will not be able to get a replacement so unless you want to open the player and remove the screws that prevent it from coming completely out and then getting it back in at the gear mark (not too hard if you know what you are doing) then do it with the tray in the player.

It is a shame freon based cleaners were outlaw'd as they worked great for this type cleanup.

Golly gee...no sense of humor.....
Yeah... Zenyatto is a humorless troll who is quick to criticize yet rarely has anything constructive to add. Somehow though, he has managed to escape the ire of the mods. If you have any concerns regarding my representation of his behavior here, then just review his history of posts in LD threads.

Not at all out of line. The guy has no clue to it's worth and needed to be set straight. IMHO you did him a favor.

And if the remaining 93 were the next 93 most rare/valuable in mint condition.

The way the math worked out, as best as i could determine, is that he wants $500.00 for the player and $10.10 ea for the disc.......

I cleaned one of my backup machines a few days back, because I needed it for an event I was running at an anime convention, & didn't want to have to worry whether the "Open" button would eject the disc in 10 seconds or 90. There are definitely performance gains, though, since if the disc is slipping the spindle-motor & tangent servos (which between them handle the coarse time-base correction) won't be able to keep up. In that case, among other things, the output subcarrier may not be stable enough for the TBC to put out good colour video.
About the only thing it won't help with is crosstalk.
