As soon as the unit powered on the pickup should have moved forward to the correct rest position even without a disc installed. This is acting so much like the turn mechanism in the back is not properly in the A side position.

Well, I received the Star Wars trilogy CEDs. It did include both Jedi discs, and they look like I'd just opened them. No scuffs or scratches. If I were to sell them, I would have no problem listing them as mint.

I will take another look. The pickup slid all the way back into the turn mechanism, so it seemed to be in the correct position.

Now my Sony MDP-740 besides not reading the disc (the disc wants to start spinning, and makes 2 attempts, the first one slower and the second one faster, but then stops, doesn't rcognizes the disc) is also making a strange thing.
When i open the drawer the aluminium door tries to open but stays in the middle of the process, i must help with my finger.

Any ideas for these 2 problems?

Under the tray on the left front you will find the pully to open the tray, turning it one way ejects the tray, turning it the other lifts the mechanical assembly. Once the tray is out the power supply is righ tthere on the bottom left.

One other thought, if the tray is not fully pulled into the player it will also act like this. There is a micro switch that signals the processor that the tray is in play position and that signal is necessary for it to try to play but with this failure the tray should open/close. Could also be the ribbon cable going from the turn mechanism to the electronics board.

I was curious to see if my CLD-D703 still worked. The last time I used it two years ago it had serious tracking problems. It would play discs fine in the beginning but would lose tracking towards the end of the disc.

To my surprise it played two Pioneer USA discs perfectly. But a disc made at DADC/Sony is completely unplayable now. I put in the disc, the disc spins up faster and faster and faster. And then the player gives up and drops out of play made. I can't even eject the disc as the brake never engages. I have to wait until the disc spins down to a stop on its own and then the eject button works.

Just send it to Sony to replace the parts. It's a very complex and beautiful machine , it deserves to be renewed.

In my opinion yes the 95/97 are better, but it depends on what you like. The 79 will have more background noise but be a little sharper. The 95/97 will be more film-like with a smoother background but not quite as sharp.

A CLD-79 sold on Ebay today for almost $400 while a CLD-95 sold for $205 and a CLD-97 for $400 days ago. I kick myself for not bidding on the 95/97and selling that mint 97 last year that you worked on.

Anybody know anything about the Sony LVR-3000N laser disc recorder? There is one for sale with a single unused LVM-3AA0 Blank CRV Laser Videodisc.

Can CRV discs be played on a standard LD player? From what the seller knows, they were made only to play in CRVdisc players or recorders.

The seller would be correct. I remember reading that those are locked away in a caddy. I don't think CRV was even interchangeable between other CRV devices, the Sonys only played in Sonys, the Panasonics only played in Panasonics. A nice piece of history in the LaserDisc subculture, though

There were two type of recorders made. The one with the caddy so you could only play them in units made for them and another that did not have a caddy but the player had to be designed to play the disc. The LD-V4400 industrial was made to read those. I do not know of any LD recorder that used a disc you could put into any LD player.

It was released on VHS and DVD as far as I know, but then what's the point? I also thought it would be cool to make my own movie and put it on LaserDisc, but not if I am the only one who can play it.
