Can't connect PS3 to the Internet

My PS3 can't even get an IP address. My cable modem runs into a "5 Port 10/100 Switch", from there to my PC and to my PS3. I've tried a couple of things like power cycling the modem and turning off media streaming on the PS3. Still the same thing, can't get an IP address.

Any other options besides replacing the "5 port 10/100 Switch" with a regular router?

I just did and it connected no problem. So should I get a router?

If you're going to have more than one device connected to your modem then you need a router to assign internal IP addresses to all of your devices.

Got the router and everything is working perfectly, worked for my netflix enabled blu-ray player as well.
