Looking for some input/direction into some home automation.

Thread Starter
Good evening everyone. I am interested in accomplishing some home automation. Here is what I'm looking to do.
1) Key less entry with text alerts. Kwik Set vs Schlage?
2) HVAC
3) Light modules
All controlled via an Android app.
Thoughts?
Also, have a harmony 880 if that plays into it?

The Harmony can't communicate with any of those devices except for the light dimmers/switches possibly. I wouldn't recommend it as a whole house solution though.

If you break down each of those systems, there are versions of each that are IP which means the Android can control them (web-based though, not app based.)

If you really want it to be unified and app based (under one app,) you need a control system. The control systems I know that operate on the Android platform are Control4 and Crestron. They will have products that accomplish each layer of automation like lighting, HVAC, access control etc.

For a control system, there are several solutions readily available to DIYers. These include Elve from CodeCore, HomeSeer, Mainlobby/Netremote from Cinemar, CQC, others. These range from the very simple (easier, limited functions) to the complex (and powerful).

Each has their own forum.

I use the Mi Casa Verde Vera/Mios system with Square Connect's SQ Remote. I use it with Schlage locks and Z-Wave lighting and thermostats. It really is the best bang for the buck IMHO.
