I was killing some time yesterday and stopped by our local Magnolia AV store and got to spend about 1.5 hours with Martin Logan Summit X and is it Spire? the next one down and I thought the Summit X was fantastic. Really loved them.
I think my center is much better than anything offered by ML but if I were starting over or didn't have speakers I enjoy as much as I do I would really consider ML and take a chance on set-up etc.
And on a much different ML level I remember once I stopped by BB to pick up some blu-rays and I heard a wonderfully clear engaging sound coming from the Magnolia section and I wandered over to investigate. It was one of the mid-level ML I guess but I was drawn to them very much. The mid-range and vocals are incredible..
The Summits were in a beautiful room with Mcintosh 1K mono amps etc etc but I loved them. I think it is a sound you love or hate and not so much in the middle.
But the fun thing was I came home and still thought my monitors sounded better so it was nice to spend so extended time with ML. It was fun as I was there with another couple looking at the ML and we had a blast switching back and forth between the Summit X and Spire. They liked the music I brought and the salesman left us alone the entire time and we had complete control of that awesome room. Fun!! Oh and the fun couple? They bought the Summit X before they left.
I would not dismiss the ML against any B&W. My taste only and preference of course.
