Does anyone have the new BDP43FD player yet? I have one if you want to discuss the features and issues.

I'd like to know the how the load times of movies are. Also the PQ & AQ of this player also.

The PQ is great as far as resolution, you literally can see every pore on a persons face, I compared my samsung bdp6500 3d player to this one in an A b test and the 43fd was better as far as resolution it seemed, (but this is pure observation, not scientific). i am a bit dissapointed in the PQLS...as i dont hear much improvement in sound quality, although it is nice to watch the blue lights come on in lock mode. The load time is much better than past pioneers, but still slightly slower that the samsung. What is incredibly frustrating and its rediculous that its not fixed is the slow response times of the controls such as open, close....the system wont take the commands until its done with the last process, which could be load, or start up or anything else. also you cannot just put the disk in and press play....you have to push close, wait and then push play. overall the PQ is the best I have seen, in some ways maybe too detailed....but the overall unit is clunky as far as controls. Also the player has froze twice requiring me to unplug it as it woud nto respond to any controls from the front panel or the remote. I would be interested in other feedback if anyone else has this player. I might return it but ordered it directly from pioneer in long beach, they shipped it to my home.

I would have liked to keep a Pioneer BD player back when and after trying several in different BB locations, I could not because of the players' freezing and having to unplug them.

Too bad because the PQ with BD and SD DVD was awesome and it made a very good CD player as well. The load time didn't faze me to tell the truth but never knowing when you are watching something and the player might end up freezing was ridiculous.

I ordered this (after pre-ordering the Denon 2011UDP last AUGUST with no sign of it yet)and it comes next week. Could not find any reviews on it at all. How is the Netflix streaming? Are the controls clunky there too?

I have not tried the wifi interface with net flix or anything else, just watched some movies and played some cd's. I may have more info as I use it more, but for now outstanding pix, clunky and lagging controls, decent build quality. I used to push buttons on my samsung player which was in many ways as good as the 43fd, and while pushing the buttons the player would move and slide, that doesn't happen with the43fd. Remote should be backlit for the price. Sound seems to be on par with any other digital player via hdmi. I let my sc37 do the decode and d to a. Pqls makes very very slight improvement in sound quality that I can barely perceive, but it's there.

I am still contemplating this versus the cheaper Denon 1611. The Denon has power on/off issues which seem to have resolved with a recent firmware. I see "clunky" -ness mentioned regarding the 43fd and frozen player issues. I am a bit surprised at this price that the player may perform sluggish or erratic. Does anyone have any other details (Netflix performance included) they would care to share so I can get this worked out?

I really want to get this BR player to match my SC-37 but I might end up going with the Oppo BDP-93 or just sticking with my PS3...

I talked to an installer who said he has done a lot of the Oppo, Denon, and Pioneer brands and while he really likes Denon and Pioneer, the Oppo always seems to be a little less clear/defined than either Denon or Pioneer when finished calibrating. For what it is worth, I guess I will find out later today when my new install of my JVC projector and 43fd is complete. I still really wish Denon would have released the 2011 they promised last SEPTEMBER!

Oh really that's good to know...Let us know what you think of the 43 FD as far as PQ and if it freezes...What AVR (or separates) are you running?

Well, the 41fd was delivered...NOT the 43fd. I will be sending it back and get the 43 later...HOWEVER, I did boot it up and noticed a few things:

1: In the factory sealed box was a remote for their Elite Receivers and not the one for the player.

2. The first thing I did was update the firmware and still, within half an hour...2 freezes resulting in pulling the plug.

3. Image looked great with no artifacts or overly enhanced edges. Aliasing was not evident but I will stress test that later with standard dvd material. Will also test it out some more before it gets shipped back.

4. Netflix material looked good (even on the 110" screen) particularly with HD source material. A lot better than I thought it would actually. However, the Netflix menu looked pretty low rez.

5. Since the 41 and 43 are fairly similar (correct me on what the major differences are) If I don't really care for this one, I may avoid the 43 altogether and look for a different brand again.

How fast is it for powerup time & load times on Blu-rays with Javas.

POTC is a good disc to check for load times with heavy BD-Java.

Did the freeze happen when playing a Blu-ray disc or during the firmware update?

Also let us know how the upconversion is on standard DVDs.

I have a SC-37 & was considering the 43.

The freeze happened first (before firmware update) on trying to stop a disk and eject, and then (after firmware) when trying to do the first netflix initialization. Having the wrong remote hasn't made figuring it out any easier either.

The Pioneer BDP43FD and all the newer 2010-11 Pio bd players aren't true Pioneer players, they are Sharp players with a Pioneer logo on them. Pioneer got out of the bluray player and tv market at the end of 2009. The Pioneer 320/23FD/09FD are the last Pioneer players. The new Sharp/Pioneer models have some extra features like with online streaming. What matters to me is if the player has "Source Direct" mode.

do we know what players the pioneers are replicas of? or were they built on a sharp platform with pioneer design changes...? PQLS is a feature, but thats not a sharp item.

The load times (once you get past the slow startup) are pretty snappy. 16 seconds is the longest one so far. DVD quality was nothing to write home about though there was no aliasing to be seen either. However, it froze up again while using Netflix and needed to have the plug pulled. I have the 43fd and the Oppo 93 on the way to audition those too next week.

If you are watching mostly blu-rays on a less than 60" display and you're not a videophile who needs tons of picture adjustment and calibration features, why should you care?

Aren't most CE products today actually made by generic manufacturers in the same factories in China?

I am watching both blu-ray and dvd on a 110" projector (JVC 550). Upconversion quality on standard def sources is important as is sound quality. (I don't expect blu-ray clarity on standard material like Netflix and dvd but clean and resolved would be nice).

For your needs, one of the few remaining open box Pio 320/23FD still floating around somewhere may serve you better. Or get one of the new Oppo players. I haven't seen any of these new Piosharps in action but I've never heard anyone speak kindly of DVD upconversion on these units.

I was thinking of getting this player instead of the Denon 1611. Source direct looks so much better than 1080p/24 on the avr-1611. I don't think the Pio 43 has source direct? 1080p/24 just seems not as refined.

Okay, I have had both for a little while now (Oppo 93) and have to give the Oppo the nod. It has some quirks, but none of them require me to pull the plug. Netflix implementation is better on the Pioneer, but the Pioneer does not seem to play SD material as nicely as the Oppo. If the Pioneer had better PQ, it might still get the nod, but quite frankly, I don't see why one would want to get the Pioneer 43fd at $450-500 when to my eyes, it does one thing better (Netflix) than the Oppo 93 and many things worse.

I just installed mine today and played a few DVDs without problems. PQLS on. I also tried a music CD and to my disapointment you can't press number buttons to jump to the corresponding track #. You have to press function, select track, press enter, press number button, press enter. What a drag, unless someone found a setting to allow this?

Yes. I got mine yesterday. Netflix and Pandora work great, but I'm having trouble setting up access to YouTube or Divx ... Also I can't http directly in to the unit the way I can with my vsx-32. iPhone app also doesn't see it either. I updated firmware no problem. I'm not finding much on the net as to how to configure for youtube and/or other streaming sources. I guess they are too new...

I thought getting the 43fd would go nicely with my vsx-32. So far some of the functionality advertised is not happening for me: i.e. other streaming content like youtube and streams via divx.

Have you tried these yet?
