Dark Souls... From Software's epic action-RPG - Page 36

Over 3 months and nearly 148 game hours later, I finally claimed the platinum trophy for Dark Souls. What an excellent game -- a superb follow-up to Demon's Souls in almost every respect.

I'll probably set this one down for a while, but I suspect I'll be back before too long to try out a new character with a different play style. So many options...

I set it down after 160 hours on my first character (faith/strength)...then I made an endurance build and played an additional 40 hours...just finished up 12 hours on an Oolacile/Strength build...creating a vitality build right now, which will be followed by another faith build. I have so many games that I really want to play but I keep coming back to Dark Souls. I'm sure I'll stop when my builds are complete but I don't think I've run through a game as many times as this, besides Demon's Souls of course. The PvP can get annoying with all the chain backstabbers or shield turtles, but it's still unique and fun.

Which pic are you guys the most intrigued by? That pic of them walking through a forest (with what appears to be some co-op players) gives me goose bumps.

THE BUZZ: From Software’s 2011 release Dark Souls was a hit with countless fans around the world—fans who soon will be able to extend the adventure via upcoming DLC.

A source close to the project has told EGM that some form of expanded content is in the process of being finished up for Dark Souls, and will be released as DLC at some point in the first quarter of this year.

While we were unable to get further details on what this new DLC will feature, late last year it was discovered that From Software had filed for an interesting trademark in Japan. That trademark was for “Yami no Mori”—which could be translated as “Forest of Darkness” or “Dark Forest”.

While we have no reason at this point to believe that the two are connected, we also have no reason to instantly discount the idea.

EGM’s TAKE: The idea of DLC for Dark Souls is an interesting one for me. I really appreciated that the game felt like a complete project—versus other titles where you don’t feel like you’re getting the whole experience without having to spend extra money on a long list of digital add-ons. Dark Souls was what it was—and didn’t need to be anything more.

And yet—I would totally buy Dark Souls DLC. I absolutely adored the game, and the chance to experience new pieces of it is something that gets me as giddy as a schoolgirl.

The question is, how did this DLC come about? If it was planned during the game’s original release, then sure, I’d feel a little raw about being told there wouldn’t be Dark Souls DLC and then having it appear. If, however, this DLC now exists as a result of player demand and the game’s growing popularity, then I am perfectly fine with that. I have no problem with the concept of DLC—when it comes as additional content to satisfy consumer demand, and not when it’s shaved-off pieces sold separately to make extra money.

If true, I wonder if it will complete the pygmy story.
Just a rumor for now, as it really could be anything. But it would be nice.

There's several places in the game where there's blocked doorways that remind me of the broken Archstone in demons souls.

All thats needed for DLc is to make them real doorways.

I want to see this DLC happen. I wonder if they would make you start over, or somehow remove your gear so that you don't just walk through it on easy-mode with uber powerful weapons. Or, we could govern what gear we use on our own, of course.

It could even be some form of PvP arena for all we know. Limitless possibilities. The most likely being that it will never exist.

Grats! I'm closing in on it myself. I'm about to tackle Four Kings in NG+. By my count, I need 3 more Titanite Slabs to get all the weapon upgrade trophies. After that, I just need to complete NG+ with the "good" ending and then play NG++ up to Sif the Great Wolf to get my platinum.

Gravelord weekend next weekend if anyone is interested:

http://www.preparetodie.com/forums/v...p?f=18&t=27100

Goal is to get Gravelords infecting as many potential worlds as possible, it illicit a PBWT like status on others. cov is still a bit glitchy, but it could be fun.

I killed the dragon on the bridge last night, I thought he was supposed to drop a dragon scale which I was going to use to upgrade my drake sword...no drop? what gives...
Nope, just 10K souls and the drake sword drop if you manage to remove his tail.

There's lots of dragon scales down in Ash lake. You can also join Dragin Cov and duel for them.

The undead dragon in the painted world will drop one (just did this last night). Go to Ash lake like tyrant suggested.

I haven't been there since the update, but you can really get your ass handed to you in Ash Lake if you don't have any curse cures. Making your way back out of there and Blighttown almost made me rage quit this game.

Yes, only go to Ash Lake if you have the lordvessel.

My trick was to checkpoint at the hollow tree bonfire, make my way down and all the way to the eternal dragon, and make damn sure not to light his bonfire. Easy compared to the climb back up, and all you had to do was homeward bone back to the hollow / swamp.

The new bottomless box glitch is by far worse then the soul glitch. Duping is now easy, as is giving your SL1 character everything you've rank up with a SL711 character. People are regularly one shotting Capra Demon now.

What is the new bottomless box glitch? I haven't heard anything about it.

I made a 3rd character and cheated the day the patch released (didn't go online until I was done getting 2MM+ souls). I did all the bonfire checkpoints and it didn't seem that tough to make it out of Ash Lake. I just ran past everything.

^Climbing back up the tree was awful for me. Still is, so I never do it.

Well, I lit all the bonfires along the way, didn't have anything to cure the curses I kept getting hit with, and finally made it out of Great Hollow with a vastly reduced health bar. The worst part was getting out of the bottom of Blighttown. The funny thing was, I hadn't discovered that you could ride the water wheel out of there... I felt like an idiot once I realized that.

I kept my copy after platting this game. Still have Demon's Souls too. I'm going to have to give it a go again if they've fixed the summoning issues.
They have. If there servers / location is busy you might have a little trouble (I've noticed), but overall I was able to play the whole game through with a friend the past few weeks.
Woo! Platinum! Yay me.

I just have one comment. Why is the "good" ending so lame?

Same page here. I got cursed going down the tree (nothing to get uncursed)...then lit the eternal dragon fire without lordvessal. I also never bought any homeward bones not once the whole game. I lit the eternal dragon bonfire with the hydra on that side of the lake and it killed me atleast 30x before I made it out to the clams. From there is was easy making it back up the tree.

Is DkS save file protected? I have a buddy that I lent the game and he can't make it out of the asylum I want to help him at my place but want to do it on his profile.

What about the cloud save...will that bypass protected files?

Thanks,

I've got another question for you- Why was the "bad" ending so lame?

Luckily the endings to this game didn't really matter since it's not a story-driven game. They were both awful.

Still loved it and plan to replay it again.

If he can't make it out of the asylum, giving him a save file from a more difficult portion of the game probably won't help him enjoy the game.

Well, at least that one had a little more meat to it. It had words and stuff.

Not a huge story, but it's more of a game mythology. You pretty much get a idea of whats going on by reading all the item descriptions, talking to all the NCP's and playing.

As for the save file it is copy protected and most likely tied to your account. My guess is your friend is trying to take on the asylum demon first time, with the broken sword. Tell him to find the side door and run away from the first fight.

Speaking of that, I finally got around to getting a witch's ring so I could talk to the Chaos Servant fire keeper. Now I wish I hadn't. It just feels so wrong.
