Dark Souls... From Software's epic action-RPG - Page 5

The problem I find with most of these reviews is that they treat the death aspect of these games as very black and white. Death in Demons souls was gray. You returned in soul form! Venture off to help another player, learn the board, revive to corporeal and do it again. Death was not the punishment reviewers would have you believe. It also never felt cheap. You were aware of what was on the line and if you needed to you could retreat. This isn't bulletstorm(which I loved) where you're just recklessly plowing forward. You need to be focused on your approach.

Demon's Souls was one of my favorite titles this generation. Those of you that avoided it because of this supposed difficulty is just ridiculous.

Indeed, and you also didn't lose any weapons or items. Only Souls, and only if you couldn't get back to the previous spot in one run.

I've heard thats coming to an end in DS (very slight spoiler), your weapons will break after the worn down period if they're not repaired, and some enemies that shoot corrosive bile can destroy certain classes of weapons and armor in only a few hits.

I read that over on NeoGaf. There was always a counter to whatever negative encounter you had in Demon's Souls. I really suggest that if anyone is on the borderline in regards to purchasing this game....give it a shot.

It's not Mass Effect(which I also love) but it offers a wholly original experience that you really won't find anywhere else, PERIOD.

This. Right here. This has me staying away from the game until I can hear first hand reports from players about how this is handled.

Demon Souls difficulty (Which is fun) PLUS losing weapons FOREVER would probably keep me from playing this game.

I'll still enjoy it by proxy by reading about various people's adventures, or possibly watching a Let's Play.

You can always put it back in your inventory and RUN, RUN away.

From what I read the only weapon that can break are crystal weapons that clearly state in the item description that they can break. All others can be repaired.

Of course this is all rumor until we play the game. I think IGN was being silly and melodramatic; especially when they said "If you just play games for fun, this isn't for you..."

Has anyone heard anything about summoning? The two reviews I've read (i.e., IGN and Eurogamer) both say they've made playing with friends impossible. I can't tell if they simply mean it will be difficult, like it was in Demon's Souls, or impossible because they've removed PSN IDs from Soul Signs or something. I'll be truly hacked off if I can't summon my e-buddies.

Looking forward to this one. I've been purposely ignoring reviews so nothing's spoiled for me. Demons souls was/is my only platinum trophy. Love that game.

I love a good dungeon crawler, but this game seems way too unforgiving for me!

Loved Demon's Souls. Pre-ordered this game this weekend since they were giving 10$ reward for pre-order

It is a 3 day weekend and my GF works all 3 days... so sad

It'll be interesting to see if it's as easy as Demons Souls.

Truth be told Demons Souls was very easy, if you played it cautiously and conservatively. Heck, getting invaded wasn't even a huge factor until NG+.

But if you treated it like some beat em up, hack and slash game on easy. You'd never beat it that way.

Haha, Joystiq.com has there review up, which is pretty much a write-up repeating how hard the game is over and over again. The funniest line though is the small text ata the end of the review:

Quote:

"The game was played for approximately 38 hours, though not to completion."

What happened to the good ol' days when critics used to actually finish games before they reviewed them? I guess he couldn't handle the beat downs, pansy.

Awesome.

To any Newegg order's, we feel you pain! Apparently the CE that they changed to the SE was because they goofed bad. Instead of notifying their customers, they hid it until 6pm EST today! At which point they emailed everybody and said "sorry, you're getting the SE edition".

Guess they were even asking for the first round of CAG complainers to "prove" they had the CE up with screen prints.

Really low of them. Hopefully they do more then the lame $20 peace offering credit they're offering. Especially seeing how they've been trying to build up their game media sales to compete with amazon.

That sounds awful.

Mines coming from Amazon release date delivery, but still hasn't shipped/updated. Hoping it's a glitch / delay in data or something. Supposed to be here by 3pm tomorrow...

Luckily it's still the CE editions there.

mine didn't say shipped until a few hours ago, my credit card got charged this morning, so there's a bit of a delay i guess
post #143 of 1246
Mine shipped at 7PM. It shows that it shipped the collector edition, but I actually like the standard cover better.
No charge on my CC yet either.

gulp...
Yikes.

Looks like BB goofed too, although no word if it's the publisher or BB distributions fault:

So, if you're okay with not getting the CE, you can get an extra $20 gift card out of the whole debacle. I'm still going to hold out to try to get a CE somehow, but at least Best Buy is doing something to apologize for their mistake.

I'm wondering if Namco screwed the pooch and didn't forfill their quotas.
Looks like it. amazon only has a limited number.

No word on when future numbers will ship, or even if they'll be the CE.

What a mess!
Amazon DID charge my CC, but sent me an email at 4AM this morning saying shipment is delayed. They said they're sorry...so I guess all is right with the world....
