Dark Souls... From Software's epic action-RPG - Page 31

I finally found one that I like. Also, I hear people raving about the chaos blade in the chatrooms. I might look into it for one of my characters.

I had something strange happen to me for the first time tonight when helping people out in the painted world to get some souls. I was summoned to help someone and we get down to the base of the tower before you run across the bridge to priscilla and then something strange happened.

The guy that summoned me was sitting there and then he summoned a dark spirit. He pointed where the dark spirit was being summoned and then walked back up the stairs a bit and made me fight him one on one. I barely beat the dark spirit, he cast something that basically brought all of my health down to just about zero but I landed a two-handed attack that killed him. What was the purpose of the summoner doing that?

Some are trying to make the Painted World as a dueling arena. Often the human will make the phantoms fight, as you just found out.

Gotcha. Definitely caught me off-guard, but at least I beat him.

One question before I pick this game up. Is it as hard as the first one? I loved DS but it was by far the hardest game I think I've ever played.

It feels easier, especially since you already played through DeS. That being said, at low levels you will encounter a lot of invaders who have maxed out weapons that can kill you in one hit.

Overall I still appreciate DeS more than DkS, but I've already spent 140 hours in this game, 50+ hours of that dueling/invading, so it's still a lot of fun with a more enjoyable PvP in my opinion.

I'll second that if you've played DeS you know pretty much what to expect here. Not so much easier or harder but more of the same, in a very good way.

From kept much of the sound effects and animations from DeS. Parts of certain levels and creature design and even placement feels familiar too. DaS is just larger.

This also happens in the Kiln a lot. If you don't want to fight, you can use your black separation crystal to go home. If you see the guys bowing, and waiting for you, then they are setting up a duel.

I guess I just don't understand what the point of setting up a duel is for someone who isn't expecting one.

Oh well, I won

Here's an example of dueling in the Painted World:

Notice one of them is using the Chaos Blade?

Other than that, I didn't recognize a few of the spells/weapons they were using.

This game is ridiculously awesome and easier now since the patch, anyone who found it too hard before should really give it another go.

I'm leveling up a dexterity build hunter right now

Got the ring of favor and Protection last night just wondering if theres a reason not to equip it? Is there a time you HAVE to wear two specific rings to get something done? Otherwise I dont see a reason to ever take it off...

IN my opinion, Ring of Favor and Protection and Dark Wood Grain Ring are pretty much the best rings in the game. Lets you wear heavier armor and have more health. The only reason I took off the Ring of Favor and Protection was to backstab people with the Hornet Ring as an invader.

Trust me, the only time I know for sure you will want to take it off is when helping with the 4 Kings. I'm trying to farm 4 Kings right now because that's where people at my SL get summoned a lot, and they are kicking my butt. I typically use the FAP ring ( ) along with Havel's Ring so that I can still quick-roll while wearing Paladin's gear, but I have to equip the Artorias Covenant ring to get into the abyss, so I either have to break the FAP ring or take off Havel's ring.

Taking off Havel's ring means losing quick roll or having to take off some armor, and against the 4 Kings it's not a good idea to take off armor. Needless to say, both ways I've lost my last 6 battles with 4 Kings in NG+ and beyond.

Better to keep it on and bring piro / iron flesh. Double hand your best DPS weapon and get as close as possible. Just message the human beforehand to let him know to make sure to keep you topped off on health. At a certain point the Vit and stamina stop increasing (40?..) so the only way to increase it is the 20% buff from RFP.

The extra health + stamina against 4kings makes the difference with Iron Flesh rather than trying to be nimble around them. Especially if you're not quick and they gang up on you.

Beat them last weekend at SL4 alone using that method.

Do you have the Dark Wood Grain Ring? It lets you quick roll with 50% equipment burden.

I haven't used iron flesh yet, mostly because I hate being that slow and I heard they nerfed it with the patch.

I'd still have to remove some armor, because after removing Havel's ring I'd be at around 60% equip burden. I think I'm just gonna go the iron flesh route. It's just not as easy on NG++ and beyond.

Put on FAP and Steel Prot and started rocking Havels gear. Super slow but I worked 4 Kings and PinWheel. Amazing how easy it is when things barely damage you, at one point I did Iron Flesh and Pinwheel couldnt damage me. I've been running through Painted world for a while...lots of souls to be had there. Up to SL 75 with only Lightning Spear upgraded past base...I dont really "get" the upgrading of weapons...Im too afraid I'll mess up so I just keep on with base weapons.

Finally got infected by a Gravelord Servant in Lost Izalith, of all places. Found his sign and tried invading, but couldn't find the guy for the life of me. After several attempts I finally realized there was a statue in his world that wasn't in mine, so I attacked it, and sure enough it was him. Felt good to take him down.

I didn't notice any phantoms before finding the sign, but I'd only gotten to the bonfire in the lava field at that point, so who knows what was waiting ahead...

I'm hearing more and more about Gravelord covenant stuff happening in Lost Izaleth. I'm guessing they do that because it's a large area of space to search for a sign.

Finished the game yesterday, I was feeling bad for killing the NPC before going into NG+
post #925 of 1246
I destroyed every thing in the game before beating it. Felt only slightly bad, but that was assuaged by all the humanity I looted.
Yesterday, I put down my white summon sign at the 2nd bonfire in Anor Londo. About 5 minutes later, I was summoned. The host then set about summoning another spirit. Then I was notified that the host was sending me away.

Man, that was harsh. I realize I'm rockin' the gold-hemmed and lightning spear, but still...

I'm working on an Intelligence build. My INT is about 32, and my END is about 30. My STR/DEX are 12/15. I don't really want to level any more until I get to NG+. What are my options for better weapon/armor for pvp?

pretty lame that this game is full of twinked out griefers now, online helping used to be fun and getting help online wasn't such a chore, thanks for not fixing the humanity and souls duping glitch in your latest patch losers @ from software
post #928 of 1246
They did fix it...I think what you're saying is that they should have reset some characters or did a soul-sucking invasion on people above a certain soul level & under a certain level of hours played?

What I'm still upset about is not being able to co-op & invade even after the patch. Blue orb has worked for me 1 out of about 30 times so far, and I spent the weekend trying to co-op with guys on my buddy list only to be unsuccessful after hours.

I think I glitches the game somehow. I laid down a white sign, then unhollowed in painted world. After I was human I got summoned as a phantom...that's not supposed to happen is it? Now I am still human but can't see any white signs myself at the bonfire in painted world, I had been summoned from that spot like eight times so I know it's a hot spot for summoning. What's up?

In have in won about 2 Of 20 or so attempts at Pvp, but I blame it on a bad connection and people that understand the game more than I do.

Also...I thought the patch was supposed to make humanity more common on drops. I havent had. Single humanity drop since patch.
