though I do agree with you that the lens shift on the 8350 is a very nice feature to have.
The issue with any extensive effort such as Coderguy's is that no matter how he puts it, it's all really personal choices based on other's work...not any actual experience....or enough at least to claim "I know all the above from personal testing and repeated experience. That's the main issue with such "lists". They can sway people into thinking they are definitive, and lead them to making the wrong choices, simply because for many, seeing such determinations be made means to many that they must be absolutely correct.
It was indeed a good effort, but was seemingly presented as being definitive, and his initial suggestion it was mostly conjecture...well given a few more posts and he now states 80% of it is definitive. I tell you most of it is NOT definitive, and the difference in PQ with many of the choices are not discernible enough to matter when weighed against all the other factors.
No, looking at the listings, it's apparent his preference for all things DLP weighed most heavily on his choices.
BTW, Epson's 8350 has no issue with the Lamp...where that originally comes from is the failure on the older 8100-9100 models, and Epson stepped up with a 2-3 year warranty on the Lamps on ALL models so where's the issue?
The straight scoop? I've installed a couple dozen 8350s for Clients ranging across the board from High to Low end, and no one has ever expressed anything short of "Wow". I like the 8700 a lot too, and the 5010/6010 models are great, excepting the lag issue the newer 3D processor and 240hz Panels seem to create.
Of course it's your choice, but beleive this...the HC4000 is not a very good choice compared to several other PJs. It's simply a commonly used PJ that many have bought and most are satisfied with. while all that is good...it simply does not translate as being "a best choice".
