Micca EP250 and EP350 - Page 2

Hi,

The shuffle feature for music is listed as a feature request for future firmware updates. Because the EP250 is primarily a video player, we do not get a lot of request for the shuffle feature.

As far as other players, our Slim-HD does have the shuffle feature for Music, but it is a portable player and does not have network features like the EP250.

The manual for the MPlay-HD Net and the Mplay-HD seem to indicate that there is a random play function accessible through the on screen display while playing music. Is this correct?

That is correct. I forgot that the MPLAY-HD Net has this feature.

I appreciate that, however I will keep the EP250 and replace my MVIX Ultio in the living room. The EP250 is an improvement over the Ultio, and costs less. The user interface and the remote of the EP250 are superior to that of the Ultio.

Cool, I will purchase a MPlay-HD Net to use in my basement. I listen to a lot of music there and the random play feature will be quite useful.

Is the EP250 compatible with 2TB external drives?

Yes, external drives up to 2TB are supported as long as as using MBR partition table and NTFS or FAT32 file system.

Just received the MPLAY-HD Net. Very nice little piece of equipment. Plays music really well and has a random play feature. I have not tried video on it yet, but will let you know how it performs. The UI and the remote are not quite as nice as the EP250, however they are more than adequate for the tasks they perform. If you don't need a unit that can house a hard drive, the MPLAY-HD Net is worth considering.

Do Micca's devices support 1080p/60Hz? All the specs seem to list 1080p/30Hz and below.

Also, is there FLAC multichannel output?

The Micca HD-capable players all provide 1080p output at 60Hz, but videos are maxed out at 30fps. Support for 60fps video, especially at 1080p, is still a rare feature in the current market.

The WiFi adapter we sell are only for Realtek 1073 based players like the EP250/EP350/EP500. It will not work with the MPLAY-HD/Net, which are Amlogic based.

Does anyone out there know of a wifi usb dongle that will work with the MPlay-HD-Net? Just curious.

I was just curious if 1080p/60Hz support was available.

I'm more interested in multichannel FLAC and multichannel AAC support.

Multichannel AAC is definitely supported, since many videos use 6-channel AAC. Multichannel FLAC, I am not sure about.

Could you try to find out if multichannel FLAC is supported? It's a relatively popular format now and I have quite a few video files with 5.1 and 6.1 FLAC soundtracks.

Can Jack or anyone help with these three questions about the EP-350?

1) I have used Windows Media Center and there is a very nice way of manually advancing thru commerials on recorded video. One button will jump forwards 30 seconds and the other will go back 5 seconds. Some players have this feature. I find this much easier then using the more typical FF and FW buttons for skipping thru commercials. Does the EP-350 have something like this or just the usual FF/FW?
2) Can EP-350 do digital passthru of Dolby TrueHD?
3) Can EP-350 do digital passthru of DTS-HD MA?

Here are your answers:

1. The jump for 30 seconds feature does sound very nice, unfortunately the EP350 only has FF/RW for quickly advancing a movie. I've picked up the habit of bringing up the "goto" screen and just enter a time in 1 minute increments until I get to where I left off. Not nearly as nice as the 30 seconds jump with one button, I know.

2,3, these are timely questions as the existing firmware that ships with the EP250/EP350 only down samples the HD audio formats for output. However, we are releasing a new firmware this week that will provide RAW output of HD audio formats as well as the 5.1 core codec over optical/coaxial output.

Regarding the earlier question for the multi-channel FLAC, I am still waiting on the engineers to give me an answer. I'll update as soon as I have an answer.

Does the EP350 offer gapless audio playback (between different FLAC files, for example)? Itunes does, for example. If it doesn't, this is a deal killer.

Sorry, these players do not offer gapless playback for audio files. I know this is important for many types of recordings.

Sigh, that's too bad. Well, the follow up question is do you have plans to implement gapless playback? Is it a technical challenge, or just a low priority feature? I would think a simple 5 second buffer implementation could do it. There is too much great music that transitions from track to track for this feature to be absent. Thanks for listening.

Does Micca have any plans to partner up with Netflix and do live video downloads/playback?

Can the EP250/350 Display video on both HDMI & RBG at the same time?
(the same video/picture, just to 2 outputs, for display on 2 TVs)


Also what is the Voltage/Amp of the power supply used?

Sorry to all for the late replies. I rely on the subscribe feature of this thread to let me know when a new post has been made, and a recent email configuration change on my end sent those notices to the wrong folder.


We are very much at the mercy of Realtek for things like this. When ever the issue revolves around decoding and playback of video or audio, it's just not something that we can add as a vendor unless the Realtek core code already supports it.


This may be a possibility for future player models. Currently, the only way to watch Netflix through one of our EP players is to run PlayOn software on a computer the EP player can access as an UPnP server through the network connection.


Yes, the EP250/350 will output both HDMI and Component video signals at the same time. Just set the resolution as needed in the settings menu. The AC adapter is 12V 2.5A.


Unfortunately these players do not have Vietnamese font. If we get enough requests for it, it can be added in the future.

Has there been a firmware update (beta or otherwise) for the ep250 since january? That's the date my new unit says the firmware was compiled on.

Has anyone noticed any white horizontal lines flashing every now and then on the ep250? Seems random. Only 1 or 2 pixels tall and go from the right side of the screen to maybe halfway across. Always seems to be in the same place on the screen. I don't think it's a cable issue, I'm using hdmi and if I jiggle the cable it doesn't make it happen but it doesn't make it not happen either. It happens no matter if I'm in the menu or watching video or whatever else. A dvd player plugged into the same hdmi input with the same cable doesn't show the lines.

I'm also having an issue trying to connect through the network to a Win7 machine's shares. I get a username and password box come up when just trying to view the shares on the Win7 box. I've set the Win7 security to allow 40 or 56 bit encryption so that isn't the problem. Normally I do have to use a username/password to access the Win7 shares but that login information isn't working from the ep250. I've got a winxp and a linux box with samba and those are both fine accessing the Win7 shares.

One last question Has Micca considered releasing an sdk or the build toolchain for the firmware? I would be mainly interested in creating some application modules from open source.
