Micca EP250 and EP350 - Page 4

Hi,

I tried it with a unit here that still has the old firmware. I upgraded it to the new beta firmware and then used it to format a 1.5TB Samsung drive that I installed in it. I connected the mini USB cable on the back to a computer, the EP350 prompted me if I want to go into the PC connection mode. I actually didn't do anything and just let the 10-second countdown end it self. After that, the player turned off, then turned back on but without any display through HDMI. About 30-60 seconds after that I got the prompt from my computer that a new device has been installed and is now available for use. I then copied some files back and forth without issue.

Can you try re-applying the firmware and re-formatting the drive again afterwards?

I did format the drive with the new firmware.

don't know if this have something to do? you say your player doesn't display anithing throug HDMI. mine shows the "Micca" logo on the screen ones it enters PC connection mode.

and I didn't notice it turning off just blinking the screen from Menu>black screen>Micca logo. and back to menu when I unplug it from the PC.

I will try to just reinstall the firmware when I get home but I don't like the idea of re-formating again because of the slow transfer rate on the copy function from USB to internal HDD.

Ok I just pluged in my EP-350 via USB to my laptop and didn't show up on "my pc" but, it did show up on the "safety remove hardware" menu netx to the clock.

so I went to Disk manager

Start->Run and type diskmgmt.msc then right-click the drive and select Change drive letter and Paths and change the drive letter

turns out my sistem wasn't assigning any letter to the drive(I supouse because I recently installed an uninstalled some virtual drive software)

So It was a faul at my end after all thanks for the help anyway I really like this player.

Jack, thanks for all of the info you have provided in this forum. I just received my EP250 yesterday and I love it! My questions is about a wireless dongle. Will a USB WiFi card that uses any Realtek chipset work, or does it have to have a specific Realtek Chipset?

At this point I need to wait for the USB dongle to arrive and check the wireless connection to see if it performs better as the theorical maximum speed for the Wireless N is 300Mbps which is three times better than the 10/100 LAN connection.

I've seen this problem with other Realtek players. It's most often caused from video settings in the player of 24hz and/or 24fps.

Has anyone compared the picture quality of this player with other players streamed through a network?
I'm curious if it's on par with the ACRyan, another Realtek player. I've compared it to one other player, the wdtv live, and the ACR blows it out of the water.

If no HDD is installed, what features are lost aside from the obvious of onboard media.

Just wanted to answer my own question (kind of). I just bought a TP-LINK TL-WN723N from Fry's for $15 and the EP250 Media Player picked it up and worked perfectly! The TL-WN723N uses the Realtek RTL8188SU chipset, but it is only a 150Mbps card, not a 300Mpbs. But since I'm pulling video off of a computer connected to the same router with a 100Mbps Ethernet card, I didn't really care. You can find the product specs at the URL below.

We are updating the firmware to include support for more chipset models. Currently Realtek 8191SU based dongles should work.

Hi,

The image quality should be similar across all 1073 based players.

If no HDD is installed, the EP250/EP350 will not be able to perform BT and SAMBA features. If these features are not important to you, then it is not necessary to install a drive.

Jack,

I have bought a EP350 and the micca recommended USB wifi dongle for it from Amazon.
The USB adapter finds the network ssid but can't connect to it even though the correct password is used andi have other computers attached to the network and working fine.
Is this is a firmware issue? I have the latest firmware 2011-04/21 on the player.

We did some more testing with the EP250/EP350 and have posted an updated WiFi configuration guide on the FAQ section of our support website:

Give these steps a try and it should get you to connect to the WiFi router.

Jack ,

I have tried the new instructions a few times to no avail and i know that my network is working fine as all my other devices have no problem connecting to the network .
Is there anything else to be done? new firmware?

We will be posting the final (non-beta) 2011-04-21 firmware later today, you can give that a try. But this should not change the WiFi settings as there is no difference between the beta and non-beta firmware in terms of WiFi configuration.

When you update the firmware on the EP350, use the recovery mode to do so:

1. Download the firmware, unpack it, and copy the install.img file onto an empty USB drive.
2. Unplug the AC adapter from the back of the player.
3. Insert the USB drive into the player.
4. While holding down the power button on the front of the player, plug in the AC adapter on the back.
5. Continue to hold for 10 seconds and then release the button.

This will flash the firmware using recovery mode. Then go through the WiFi configuration steps as mentioned in the FAQ. Make sure you completely power off the player.

Jack,

I have a ep 350 media player, during moving it fell and the plastic clip on the top that keeps the 3.5 hard drive bay in place cracked and now it does'nt keep the hard drive in place unless it is tapped up pretty good. How do i go about just getting that small plastic piece for the hard drive bay top or the plastic hard drive bay it self.

Jack I seem to have a problem with my EP-350.

it doesn't turn on when I press the power button on the remote controll or even on the front plate, until I turn off and on the switch on the back of the player. then it works for a day or two and the same thing happens.

I have an ep250 and when I try to access my media through WORKGROUP it's asking for a password and username. my network settings are correct and I dont know why this is happening,it was working fine a few weeks ago.....hellllllllllp.

Hey,

Turn the EP250 off using the switch on the back, then turn it back on. If you are using WiFi, reconfigure the connection as if you are doing it for the first time.

Last thing to try would be to download the latest firmware and re-install it. Doing so absolutely and completely clears the player out, and if it still asks for a password, then it is more likely that something has changed on your computer side to cause the prompt.
