Official Anthem Statement Amp (P2 and P5) owners thread - Page 2

I'm planning on buying a P5 and P2 to be installed in my HT Middle Atlantic (AXS) rack.
To all current users out there, how hot these units get during normal operation?
Do I need to provide any extra active ventilation to prevent potential overheating?
Please advise. Thanks

They definitely run warm. I think if you have about 5" clearance above each, no front doors and 2" on each side you'll be OK. If you don't have enough room for convection airflow you may want to add active cooling. Will your rack be in a closet? Will you use side panels? If the answer to either is yes, you'll probably want cooling just to extend the life of it as well as prevent overheating.

My rack is in a closet (cabinet with a front door).
The rack I have is also designed to accomodate two fans on the top.
Sounds like it will be a good idea to add these in any case to keep the entire rack cool(er).
I'm still evaluating my options, so I haven't bought the units yet. Thanks

My p5 hardly gets warm even after 6hours straight of +5 db volume. Although, mine is just on an amp shelf.

i was thinking of gong to 7.1 hometheater.... looking for a p2 for a good price.. anyone seen something that was a good deal?

thanks
Bill.

An A2 would be plenty.

for me? i am worried that it would not integrate as well and i am using floor standing speakers so i figured the p2 would very better? what do you think?

Well you said the P5 hardly gets warm so you must have relatively efficient speakers. The A2 has the same gain, I think, so levels will be matched and I doubt you will get clipping in the rear channels. Also be warned that many people are disappointed by upgrading to 7.1 as movie sound design does not meet their expectations, so don't expect the rear channels to be working very hard.

I compared the A2 directly with a Sim Moon W5 ($7000) on a high end 2-channel system with difficult speakers and it sounded almost the same, A2 just a bit warmer.

I also put a watt meter on my A5 while playing 100dB music into 5 speakers and it was using 130W TOTAL, so don't overestimate your power needs.

I run b&w 804S for my five channels. i believe they are rated 89 or 90db.... at 200 watts. they are not too bad.

That is a cake walk.

Hi Everyone,

I recently picked up a p2 for bi-amp duties and have come across a slight problem(nothing major). The LED power indicator(by the power button) isn't coming on, so either I have a burnt out LED or something related....good news is that it plays great....I am going to pull the cage and remove the LED and associated wiring to test it....any feedback was great.

Anthem was very helpful and said to look at it but it could be related to a bad input board which is $250 but I am hoping it's just a bad LED which I should be able to replace with a buddy's help!

Ah those LEDs are too damn bright anyway! I put small strip of window tint over mine smile.gif

BTW you guys with stacked P2s & P5, does your wall outlet even have that much current?!

Anthem states that each electrical plug should have its own dedicated circuit.

MY point exactly...

I wish there were more posts here.... i am still looking for a statement amp.

What info are you looking for?
I am not really looking for information. i just would like to know what people are using their equipment with. if they are switching from different anthem amps to other amps or even switching within the anthem family from what to what and if they are pleased with the change......

Different topics like those, that's all...

I think it is quiet here because the amps are totally reliable and people are very satisfied with them.

I have a 7.1 system with Anthem AVM-50v pre/pro, Statement A5 + A2 amps. They are driving 7 Energy Veritas speakers without even getting warm after watching Dark Knight Rises. I see no reason to upgrade for the forseeable future, even if I were to upgrade speakers... Much to my dealer's disappointment, I make take it all to the grave!

Bill

I'm using a Denon AVP connected via XLR to the anthem P2 and P5 amps going to Von Schweikert VR4 SRs (with the mods) & ML Stage for the fronts. I have an Oppo BR player. I currently have Magna Gammas in the back but am considering other speakers to replace them.

Very nice... how do you like the anthem p2 and p5 with your speakers?

I love them. I have 3 anthems and I love the sound - just hate the repair process.

Repair ? what happened?

The original Anthem Amps had a design flaw in the power boards. I've replaced 2 of them so far of my 3 amps. I'm unsure if the newer ones are prone to the same issue.

I'd be OK if Anthem said OK, we'll send you the part but they really really really want you to have it done at an authorized repair center. I certainly don't want to lug that thing to a repair center to replace a card. Granted there are a LOT of screws to remove but it really isn't any more complicated than replacing a video card that requires additional power.

So after decades making the MCA series there is a design flaw in the Statement P series? Lol.
