Her acting was pretty blahhhhhh. And yeah, in comparison to what you'd hope for in someone playing Marilyn, her chest is quite lacking. Overall though the show has a lot of promise. I'll definitely be tuning in more. Not a fan of show tunes, but hopefully they'll work in some more modern songs.

I didn't realize SYTYCD had started up again.

I watched it--nothing special, though I'll watch for a while for the song and dance. Shocking to see Angelica Huston doing series television, but times are tough all around .

Looking at pictures online (including the famous nude from Playboy) I don't see where Marilyn Monroe was all that chesty. She had nice ones, but the blonde actress is considerably larger.

If it had, I think that there'd be a brand new thread for it.

Yeah, I take back what I said. Looking at those photos of the actual Marilyn makes me think McPhee is closer in appearance than the blonde is. I just wish McPhee could act. Maybe she gets better as the show goes on.

Meh--she's no worse than 80% of the rest of actors on TV. As it is her first role, I'd expect her to get better over time (though she could disappoint ).

Pretty sure it's not her first role. I saw her on Community (also not good), and some movie with Anna Faris (I'm thinking House Bunny).

You're right--her IMDb page shows her in seven previous roles (5 as a named character) in film and TV. Still, her acting seems fairly average as TV acting goes, IMO.

BTW, I ran across the following picture of her:

Her breasts seem comparable in size to Marilyn's to me.

They definitely are. Not sure why I pictured Marilyn as a huge-chested woman. Maybe because whenever I see cross-dressers impersonating her they've over-accentuated the boobs.

SYTYCD Alumi sighting of Ellenore in last night's episode of Smash:

Come to think of it, both of these women are alumi of Fox Reality Shows appearing on NBC. Oh, the irony.

It is nice to see so many of the SYTYCD alums out there working professionally.

Another SYTYCD alumi sighting:

Travis Wall and Melanie (last season's winner) were on the DWTS Results Show this week. It sounded like Travis and a couple of buddies have formed a new dance company and they did a "Macy's Stars of Dance" routine for DWTS.

There was also a black women in the company that might have been Sasha, but I couldn't get a good enough look at her to be certain.

So who's going to start a new thread for season 9 that starts up in a few weeks?
I saw my first ad for the new season during Idol last night.
I caught the short, dark-haired Broadway-type male dancer on Smash last week (in a Bollywood style fantasy sequence). Sorry, I don't follow the show closely enough to remember names but he was on the last or second to last season of SYTYCD, making it down to around the final 8-10.

I watched that and didn't recognize anyone at a glance other than Travis. (The company is apparently called "Shaping Sound").

There's a clip of the piece at YouTube:

Looking at it again I recognize Melanie's distinctively cubical head . I also believe that the black woman was Sasha, but we're not given a close enough look at her face to be sure. She shares Sasha's hair styling sensibilities.

EDIT: The Oxygen cable network is preparing (or has prepared) a "docu-series" about Shaping Sound:

(That was from an interesting YouTube channel called "DanceOn").

Googling "So You Think You Can Dance" turned up this piece with little video comments from the judges and Cat about the upcoming season (which debuts on the 24th of next month ).

Since that teaser says that Nick Lazzarini (season 1 winner) is one of the co-founders of Shaping Sound I guess he was also in that DWTS routine. But I didn't recognize him because I didn't see season 1.

The first season I watched was 3, so the only earlier season people I know of are those who were "All Stars"; I didn't recognize him either.

From those interviews it looks as though they're reducing to 18 finalists this season.

His fantastic "All That Jazz" performance from Season 1 was one of Nigel's Top15 All-Time performances shown during that special a few years back.

He was a terrific dancer. Great body lines.

I mentioned this in the DWTS thread. It was like a big SYTYCD reunion: Chelsie, Dimitri, Adechike (who partnered with the young ballerina in the AT&T Spotlight Dance), Nick, Travis, Melanie, Sasha.

Has anyone started a thread for Season 9, yet? I've been sort of AWOL from AVS since November, but I just got an email from Fox today that said SYTYCD was starting a new season Thursday (I knew it had to be coming soon, as I knew that silly singing show was almost over), and that got my juices flowing, lol, so here I am!

I started the thread the last two seasons, but this late I figure someone else may have already. If not, I'm happy to do it again. SYTYCD is one of my few happy obsessions (and I'm NOT happy Fox cancelled the results night... Heck, it's SUMMER -- give 'em a BREAK!).

A search of the titles in this forum for "so you think you can dance" reveals that no one has started one for season 9--go right ahead . Don't forget to post a link to it here.

Based on your reply, Mike, I was JUST ABOUT to start a new thread (although quite concerned nobody else had already started one). When I typed in the name for it, as always, the AVS BOT showed me similar looking threads just to make sure I wasn't duplicating something (including THIS thread), and right there was a new one for Season 9, started just 5 days ago, by our last and new thread-starter, DSperber (and he started it with a nice shot of Cat Deely in a bikini!

Here's the link: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1410568

Way to go, DSperber!

Huh--I wonder why that didn't turn up in my forum search. Oh well--no BFD.

The search function for this forum software is terrible.

I've searched for stuff that I knew existed and wanted to reread and no matter what I used for search terms, it wouldn't show up in the results.

I've actually had better luck using Google to find AVS threads than using the internal search.

I realize that the search function in vBulletin sucks big time, but a simple string-in-title search will generally work. The weird thing is that it hit all the previous seasons' threads.

My guess is it's the " marks around that thread, this and the other threads may have been ' marks. Personally I prefer to leave both off but people must do it for a reason
A quick glance of the first page of this forum shows a mix mash of " and ' and some have nothing around the thread....

Any news on the judges panel this year? I know there will be a male and female winner this year as well as only one episode per week instead of two.

Victor, AKA Mr. Pirouette, from a couple of seasons ago is on "Dance Moms: Miami" on Lifetime.
