Vizio - no bass with audio out

Thread Starter
I just purchased a 26" Vizio and when I connect my external speakers the bass signal is cut off within a second.I'm using the headphone jack. I tried resetting, turning off all the sound processing options but I still get no bass. If I connect my speakers to other sources they work fine. I also have no bass if I use headphones.

Maybe the headphone output of the TV is faulty. Exchange the TV or contact Vizio for support.

I think it's something else. If u change the eq settings the bass kicks in as u are adjusting them. Soon as the adjustments are complete the bass signal is lost.

Okay... I have no other suggestions. If the "headphone" output doesn't work properly with "headphones"... nor with external powered speakers, I can only come up with one conclusion. (Of course unless both your headphones and external speakers are both bad)

Just retuned from Sams with my second tv. Very frustrated. Same issues. You can hear the sub play for a second and then it shuts off.

Ok - is there a way to route output to the subwoofer another way (i.e. analog RCA jacks, some sort of digital audio ? )

It's a set of computer speakers. Just 1/8" plug and an on off switch.

Just plugged my iPod into the same speakers. Full sound. Somehow the tv is shutting down the lower frequencies.

Ok - what you might want to try is to get some cables / adapters at Radio Shack to put this on the RCA audio outs - shouldn't run more than $10.

In the meantime - are you getting full sound from the TV speakers ?

Have you tried using an amp using the RCA jacks and what was the result ?
You should be using the "audio out" not "headphone" output when attaching amplified speakers. Hopefully the TV's audio output can be set to "variable".
I could actually see how having the bass cut out of a headphone jack could be useful. As others have said, you're using the wrong audio outs. Get the proper adapters to use the ones on the back of the TV. Shouldn't be more than a few bucks at radio shack, walmart, etc. RCA's to your 1/8 hack.

Maybe it's like some computers, and requires amplification from the speakers you hook in?

The only other out is optical out. My high end computer speakers don't have optical in

What's the model number of your 26" Vizio?

Do they make a dongle that will take optical audio out and change it to analog out?

Yes... but, what is the model number of your TV? Just to verify.

It stinks, every audio adjustment in prefs wil cause full audio while adjusting but goes away. Almost as if the tv is capping the lower frequences

It appears that there is no analog audio output (red/white).
So, your only options are:
1) exchage the TV for a model that has an analog audio output.
2) forget about using the PC speakers and purchase an audio receiver and set of speakers
3) use existing TV and speakers, use the optical output and this:

From a picture of the back of the tv that I saw on Amazon, it certainly looks like it has a left and right audio out on the back. They are with the component connections and could easily be used for an analog audio out. Simple adapter to run to his 1/8 plug should work fine.

Those are inputs for sound with use of the RGB component cable.

This one would probably work better -

Just really curious why the headphone jack cuts out the low frequency. I've used these speakers on so many devices from tv's to iPods with never an issue. Why would the signal be any different?
May be better... but probably not justified since he only has/needs stereo. Just set the TV's digital audio to PCM stereo only and save ~$40.

IMHO, If he's going to spend $100 for a converter, why not just spend a more dollars and get an entry level HTiB? For example:

Only if it resolves your issue(s). If not...

That is the audio in connectors for Componet hookup
post #28 of 48
Well... it would be unfortunate if you invested ~$75 (after buying converter, cables and adapters) and find out it doesn't work as anticipated.

What is the "source" connected to the TV? Are you using the TV's internal tuner with an antenna? Cable/satellite box? Just for DVD's?

Using cable box HDMI

I was told, but have never checked, that my Motorola DCX3200 has all audio outputs active simultaneously. You might TRY a dual RCA to 1/8 adapter. The remote's volume can usually be programed to control the box output or the TV's setting.

Seems to me that Vizio has another strange practice ... mine won't add channels which is a PITA when I have to use a rotator.
