Settings Section

After spending loots of time playing with all the scenes and picture menu controls I found (at least for now) on my 46nx810 these settings are best so far. This is watching movies so far in 3D, I have to see if this creates lag for games, but it should be good for that also

Settings in black are for 3D.
Settings in red is watching 2D, Normal viewing, and Playing Games.
Settings in blue is When I am on my Mac/PC, reading, surfing. Connected to a HDMI input on the TV, DVI out on the Mac.

In 3D (meaning you have to have 3D content playing and/or paused)

3D Menu (By pushing Option on the remote then select 3D Menu)

3D Depth Adjustment = 0 (playing Super Stardust in 3D set it to +2 will introduce some crosstalk but the effects will take your mind away from it)

You will find my settings below, pending professionnal calibration that will be performed in a few weeks.
Please note that the TV is in a basement room that is fairly dark even during the daytime.
All connections from sources to the TV (XBOX 360, cable box, 3d Blu-ray player) are through high speed HDMI cables.

Everything else is at off for the cable box input and for the game input. I set cinemotion at auto 2 for the Blu-ray player input

Anyone play around with the black corrector settings? Seems to improve the black levels a lot.

After much tweaking & refinement to get the best all around color from broadcast hd tv signals on my NX55810 (viewing mostly in a medium lit room with no direct sun) I've closed in on these settings. The setings are interdependant - meaning they all have to be used together to get the intended result. For me they are a big step forward from those previously posted on the owners thread (many thanks!) and result in great realistic looking color for my tv for most stations most of the time:

Not sure on any individual differences betwen tvs so record your present settings to go back to if they don't work for you. I'd encourage you to try these settings if you find your colors generally too green and overly saturated. I'll update this post if any significant changes are made.

Great. I'll try these tonight. By the way, what are we supposed to set the scene to? I have set it to general. Does it override the custom settings if set to auto? I am not even sure what it does?

I have the 60" NX810. Wondering if anyone else has a very slight magenta tint to their reds (not always), and if so, how did they lean it towards more true red? I've noticed it with broadcast (cable) -- don't remember if it was evident with BR movies.

We are overall happy wth the factory settings (other than to change to "Warm 1"), and I don't really want to "change everything" just to fix this, if possible.

Just wondering if this is "normal" for the 60" model, and adjustable.

I use General Scene Mode too, Standard Picture Mode and also combine Theatre Mode for picture timing - still experimenting with Motion Flow and timing variations Std,Clear 1,2. The other Scene settings function as presets for their described functions. LMK what you think of the settings but please try not to reach a conclusion until trying a range of stations and programming - there's considerable variation in color balance between different programs.

I think we already have a consensus that there are no "correct" settings for this tv, just general guidelines such as brightness and color should be between 45 and 55. I say just configure your set to whatever looks good to you, then compare to the settings here, if there's too much of a difference well then maybe you have a setting that is way off, if your close to everyone else just enjoy your set and never worry about settings again.

I'm one if the 3 Sony 60Lx900 series sets here on AVS. Just wanted to report that the tweaks and adjustments for the NX810 series work flawlessly on the LX900 series!! Well except for the dynamic edge lighting..

Has anyone delved into the service menu for the real man's approach for bringing out the best picture on these sets?

If there was a consensus this thread would not exist. Hopefully this thread may lead to some type of consensus, one way or the other.

Each individual TV sets are configured differently...therefore, my setting can look great on mine, but looks crappy on others. There is no right or wrong setting.

There are obviously setup differences, differences in lighting conditions, program source material white balance and personal preferences but I'm not so sure if 2 identical tvs are identically calibrated, set up side by side and the same source material played, there would actually be any visible picture differences. At least I have not read of anyone doing such a test but if this has been done and significant differences were found it would be very good to know for sure. If proven to be the case it sure wouldn't bode well for the many calibration threads on this forum!

My comment was in response to your comment that there was a consensus on there not being a consensus - guess I should have left that one alone. Obviously there will probably never be a consensus on the best settings for everyone but unless every same model tv is set up differently from the factory (unlikely!), we should able to collectively get closer to what's most pleasing to most people - if that's a common goal. Of course everyone can use whatever settings they want.

Last night I started to notice white patches on my screen when the screen is dark and one of them was so visible that when I watch anything the colors on that particular part are faded. I went into the picture settings and adjusted the backlight to low and slightly the patches were less visible. I also decided to change the scene to general since I had it set to game because I was play my PS3. After I changed it to general I've noticed that I get the white patches on my screen only when the scene is set to either game or graphics, on all other scene modes my screen is pitch black.

To any/all 60" NX810 owners... anyone get the red tweaked just right? Mine's still a tad magenta, especially from an angle. Currently using "Warm 1".

Reluctant to use 55" settings since the edge lighting is so different for the 60".

Make sure your dynamic LED is set to low / standard or clouding and flashlighting will be visible. It defaults to off in game modes and is unselectable in 3D.

I got a 60. Tell me what you want me to look at I see red all the time but am not relating to the magenta thing. My settings are out of the box. Plays great.
Some chanells might have better flesh tones but I think it's the signal, no, I'm sure of it. Some poster wrote a good paragraph or so about TV cameras, and how colors vary depending on who's controling the camera.

Make sure your dynamic LED is set to low (by 1. do this, 2. do that.). How do you turn off the dynamic LED? - thx

So that's why the thread was started, a few of us asked for it and the thread owner was gracious enuf to create it for us since we all just sat on our hands and waited ..

Gris has to be right - when these tubes role off the assembly line they should be very very close..think about it. How could they have "subtle" differences. So, ya it would be great to see someone post their 60 inch settings AFTER they paid 300.00 or so to get it calibrated. Same for the 55", compare these and see what the diferences are for now we have some settings from actual users that spent a lot of time tweaking. Now signal sourse is a big factor. My provider isn't as good as the next and so forth and so on, so some settings on one guys cablevision TV might not be as pleasing as the other one using Fios. Anyway, I like the thread and vote Gris as moderator or leader, just to keep everyone in line -
