I got great results following Gris' settings on page 1, approximately 5th post. Set your backlight depending to your room light and you're off to a good start!

Picture Mode: Custom
Backlight: 3
Picture: 80
Brightness: 46
Color: 46
Hue: 0
Color Temperature: Warm 1
Sharpness: Min +2
Noise Reduction : Off
MPEG NR : Off
Motion Flow : Clear 1
Cinemotion : Auto 2

Advanced Settings:
White Balance = Default

Black Corrector: Low
Adv. Contrast Enhancer: Low
Gamma: Default
Led Dynamic Control: Std
Auto Light Limiter: Off
Clear White: Off
Live Color: Low

The settings are for watching HD Movies in the dark to low lit room.

From experience I believe the White Balance settings are different for every tv. I've tried the THX calibration setttings from the owners thread and found the white balance settings made my blacks have a purplish tint. For me the default looks good enough when in Warm1 color temperature.

Pretty sure they are too. My green balance was way off at default. It gave my blacks and overall picture a greenish tint. I lowered the dark green by 6 and the picture looks much better. I'm also using warm 1.

Other than seeing how "your" TV compares to others on particular settings, attempting to setup YOUR TV based on someone elses settings is virtually worthless. It would be nice for someone to pay to have their TV calibrated and then post the settings so EVERONE could have a "calibrated display".

WISHFUL THINKING

A little bit of info for anyone looking at these settings. I posted my settings which have all sources to the tv direct. If you run your sources through a av receiver your settings will be affected. The only way to properly calibrate would be through the receiver.

So using "someone else's" pro calibrated settings would be less worthless?

There are pro calibrated settings listed on cnet and tweak, go give um a try..see if you like um.

Absolutely worthless.

Seeing if you "like" someone elses settings isn't the same as KNOWING that your TV is actually calibrated to a specific standard.

You don't need to use someone elses settings to know "if you like um".
But hey, it certainly doesn't hurt anything to play around using posted settings. As long as you're not in a "service menu" and changing settings you can't do any harm.

Good luck with you settings!

My 55/810 comes Thursday afternoon. I'm seeing people using "Vivid" as a setting. Coming from an SXRD that was a BIG no no!

I know what you mean about "vivid" since I had a 60" Sony SXRD. However, even on an LCD like the NX810, which I have now, I can't imagine anyone using the "vivid" setting. It may not be quite as overpowering as it was on your SXRD, but, it's still way too bright for any normal material.

When you run 3D the contrast is increased automatically to the extent that if you look at the screen without the glasses it appears way too bright (not to mention blurry).

Use your own judgment when making adjustments.

I Use my calibrated settings most of the time. However I do like Vivid while viewing animated blu ray like Pixar etc.

The Eye Candy video looks awesome in Vivid as do most cartoons.

Just received mine about 2 hrs ago! All set up and using Gris settings. Will play with it and put in DVE Blu Ray to calibrate to see what I come up with. So far using custom mode DTV looks overly bright.

Did some minor tweaks last night with DVE after using Gris's settings, when I get time I will post what my settings are, still a work in progress. Watched parts of The Incredibles, Jamiroquai Live in Montrouex, Toto Falling In Between Live, and UP last night and this tv blows away the SXRD in every way, picture wise. My only beef is with the TV sound itself, sounds tinney, hollow no matter how I changed the settings.

Notice I said "normal material". Cartoons and other non-live material doesn't count.

Do you really believe that an LCD, like the NX810 blows away a new SXRD BEFORE they went bad?

I watched a show about dead people, it did not look good in vivid. So not all non live shows are good in vivid.

I never said they did, I only said that non-live material doesn't count, in response to the other posters.

I really like the settings you posted as they were not nearly as dull as the other calibration settings that I have tried for my 60nx810.

I too have looked at the vivid settings. Although I have always thought that the vivid settings were "just not the right thing to do," I am beginning to wonder with this set.

I used vivid with scene set to auto and with power settings to high (as you suggested). I then asked my brother and my wife which setting they liked the best between the custom (with your settings), standard and the aforementioned vivid settings. They immediately responded that they liked the vivid settings better. To tell you the truth, I did too.

I still rotate between settings. But I am beginning to think that the search for the "holy grail" of picture settings may not be as elusive as I once thought. I'm just glad that I did not spend $300.00 or so on a professional calibration!

Anyway, I am very happy with my purchase as I paid $1280 for it as a Sony replacement for a defective refurbished KDL-60WF655 that I paid $1650 for around five or six years ago from UBID.com. The old Sony is in my game room and still looks decent- after I vacuumed out the insides of it.

Oh, there's actually speakers? I thought it was a guy from the 1920's behind the tv with a megaphone!

This tv has way better pq than the SXRD. I've seen details that were missing in the SXRD and both the NX810 and the SXRD were/are calibrated with DVE Blu Ray. And I can actually WATCH tv in the daytime now instead of looking at a dark screen. I didn't want to put the SXRD in vivid mode, lamps are not cheap. The new tv is way brighter. Is there a way to turn off or darken the SONY logo on the front of the tv?

it will really vary on your personal prefrence....I tried chdwill's and found them to make the pic really dull and yellow....another one made the pic look too blue....some people have had sucess with these settings but the best thing to do is to try a few different ones and see what you think....

I'm having my 60NX professionally calibrated next week when I reach the 80Hr mark. I wil post my settings.

Hey guys thanks for taking the time to read this, this would be my first post and I'm having some issues with my NX810 55 inch. I've tried a few of the settings found on this very useful forum and let me just say it's been a huge help! Thanks!

Anyhow the issue I'm having is motion blurs... the set looks fantastic when the colors are bright but when there is a dark scene there are motion blurs , the best way to describe it... it's like a motion trail when there is movement in dark scenes... my family doesn't really notice it but guys like us can't miss it. Has anyone else had this issue? any help would be great.

Thank you! One less thing for the better half to complain about! The only other complaint is how much brighter this tv is compared to the SXRD (she hasn't really heard the tv speakers yet), but that complaint is easy to handle and it's not really that much of a complaint!
