Battlefield 3 - Page 393

Not gonna say Prometheus sucked but it sure wasn't an Alien prequel. Or at least not what I thought it should be. This should have been a standalone movie.

Read an article a month or so ago, maybe on IGN? about why his gaming habits changed from year to year and he came to the realization that he gamed significantly more when times were hard. Wasn't saying not to play or not to get really into a game just a reflection of why some moments he gamed harder than others. I would tend to agree. Times have been pretty hard this last year or so but getting online and blowing some dudes (up) has been a real good outlet. The real draw is this motley forum crew and the social time. So lets get back to blowing dudes (up)!

You should of joined this evening for some fun. I'll be taking a few nights off and make a return some time midweek.

I feel really young in here at 27....

Before my first child was born, I thought I'd have to quit playing, but my wife laughed at me. I've come to the conclusion that my hobby is video games - it is what it is. I plan on playing until I die. If somehow I lose both hands, I will learn to play with my feet. As I get older my gaming genres may change as my interests change, but I never plan to stop. If 40-50 year olds still go to bars and hang out until the early hours of the morning, I can play Xbox.

I should be online tonight. Hopefully we can get a decent crowd going. Anyone here planning on picking up Halo 4?

Yeah last night was pretty fun. Too bad the party kept screwing up.
I have been away from this game for a while, had a ton of stuff going on in my life with my kids and haven't played it, but I plan on starting again this week. Man, I an not looking forward to the beating I will receive for the first few days.
I wont be on tonight but I do plan on picking up Halo 4. Not a fan of the the multi but I have loved the co-op on the previous ones. I plan on playing strictly the campaign, either solo or with friends.

From the genius of Ben Heck; not quite ready for feet only, but works with one hand: http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/17/ben-heck-refines-his-one-handed-xbox-360-controller/2

Also, it's good to know that if I ever become single I can hook up with your mom in the bar...again. tongue.gif

Hah I'm at 26 so I've got you there. No kids though.
Been on a BF3 hiatus due to so many other things to play and Armored kill kinda putting me off of console BF3 for a little while. Trying to knock most of my borderlands out before halo drops.
As long as its anywhere near the halo 3 game play I'll be putting a lot of time into it. I know happy is a MP player and I think trail is as well. CTF anyone!?!

Apparently, it's very easy to get to the roof of D building on Kharg Island Conquest...

I'm a pretty big Halo 3 and Reach fan, but I'm worried about the fact that Bungie wasn't in charge of the Halo 4 title. The clips that I have seen of 4 just don't seem promising to me.

I have been thinking about getting a new controller and probably will since Newegg has sent me a $10 off coupon for my bday or something. I have noticed canting when sniping and believe a new controller will fix that.

I'm curious to know if you guys believe that a wired controller would be beneficial? Do you think I would see any differences in a game like BF3, when comparing a xbox wired controller to a wireless controller? Thanks.

I'm not sure how much of a difference a wired controller would make. I can't really notice any input lag on my wireless controllers. They are old though and it sucks when the old rechargeable batteries I have decide to go out on me when I'm flying a jet or chopper. That always makes for an intense 10 seconds or so.

I've been thinking about getting new controllers. I am using the same ones I've had since I bought my Xbox in 2007. They are nice and worn in, but I imagine I'd get better response from a new pair of sticks. I heard that the dead zone gets larger as the sticks get older.

I played a good amount of Halo 3 and Reach, I enjoyed both. I'm just looking for something different and I know that BLOPS 2 will not be it, I refuse to get screwed by CoD again.

Spyder, I'm sure you'd like to hook up with my mom, but she doesn't carry any of those blue pills, I hope you keep your prescription filled.

I have tried both. With a lot of wireless signals (router, headset, controller), I wanted to try using my USB controller.

I noticed zero difference with the USB compared to the wireless. I did notice slightly clearer communication, which is usually a plus. The controller is lighter as well, if that matters.

I hate being stuck to a wire, though, and also hate how the xbox always assigns it controller #1 immediately upon startup. The issue is that there's no way to switch to a wireless controller without restarting the xbox.
Wired all the way. Probably all in my head, but feel quicker response wired. I even have cables for my wireless controllers. tongue.gif

Got Halo 4 pre-ordered so I'll see some of you guys there. Gameplay looks like the same 'ole Halo... not a bad thing. Multiplayer KOTH FTW.

I haven't tired of BF3 yet... prob because I stopped playing everyday and have only been playing a session or 2 on the weekends for most of the year.

Once you boot a game up, press the start button on the wireless controller and you can switch to your profile in about four seconds. If you do it outside of a game it only takes about four seconds longer too.

I played halo 3 campaign and probably played MP twice. The thing that turned me off was weapon spawns and at the time little friends that played it. I think some of that has changed since 3 but not sure. If you and few others on here play MP I'll most likely pick it up though. I love playing ctf games though, I like the added intensity of being the flag carrier.

BF3 has by far been my favorite fps though, I'm interested in hearing whats next in aftermath. The most fun I've had playing AK is rush with Zath, Hoosier, Nexus, and shmoop. Otherwise I feel like conquest needs more vehicles, at a minimum more jeeps, buggies or atvs.
BF has a great eff off ability though. Other games dont have vehicles to be stupid in so once the shine wears off there isn't much else. If I get on BF I'm equal parts ptfo and equal parts screwing around in a buggy or ATV. Jumping hills is amazing fun.
Road killing with the atv is pretty fun too... x2 with a helicopter.
Hey Guys,

I have lots of work to do these days and did not stay up that late at nights. Haven't played a lot of AK because I find it impossible with randoms. How about this weekend? Anyone planning on hopping on in the afternoon?

By the way, I am also pushing 40 and I am proud to still play games. biggrin.gif

Happy (belated) Birthday MPH.

Also found this video, a real-life pilot flying in BF3, I think this is going to interest Zath.
Missed the part about mph's bday... happy bday man.

Nice video Nima. I've seen Zath go 44-0 on that map recently. I'm sure that wasn't even his best game. That frogfoot is a beast.

Cool to see so many older gamers here... not surprised considering how well mannered everyone is online.
Thanks for the video. Always neat to see someone else fly. Some things I pulled out for comment:

1. I checked the scoreboard. Lots of low-ranks on both sides, so it's relatively "easy".

2. He got target fixated at times. He found an infantry target and went after it, completely ignoring a nearby LAV or AMTRAC. Part of why they lost 1st A crate was allowing that LAV to get into the base.

3. His use of guided missile is spot-on with how I use it. Identify targets, then finish with guns. There were a couple times he chased jeeps with the gun. NO! Lock the jeep with guided, fire, then start shooting with guns. Missile and guns hit at the same time. BOOM!

4. Anyone notice how stingers are now better at stopping spawnkilling?

5. His evasion of the chopper is also spot-on. If a chopper is looking at you, go vertical. Even better if you can angle slightly in the chopper's direction. Chopper can't climb, is forced to give up or stop and slowly gain altitude. Either way, hit the brakes, turn back in and gun'em down. Easy.

6. Hatemail. Yup, got that one before ("Do you ever go outside?").

7. He's good at bursting, but to a fault - there are times when you just gotta hold down the trigger.

8. I was surprised at how often he stayed out of cockpit, especially when engaging other aircraft. As a pilot, I'd think he would want to stay in cockpit view as much as possible.

9. LOL at the comments. "Is this just like the real thing?"
What do you expect? He's not even ranked in the top 100. wink.gif
post #11783 of 14300
Ha. I'm not even ranked in the top 100!

All I'm trying to do is post my comments hoping it helps you guys see what parts of the video to focus on for good/bad/ugly/Spyder.
I thought Prometheus wasnt too bad and, with Zero background on it found it interesting.

And I am turning 30 in Jan and still like to play the Vigeo games LoL. I think it is more playing with the crew for me. I get on and when playing solo it just isnt as good. When we have a crew going I get a lot less sleep! Just good times for all. Throw in some Jameson or any tasty beverage and it is a golden night smile.gif

LMAO, Spyder definitely deserves a separate tier for his level of pissing and moaning. I'm starting to think he just sucks at the game....cool.gif

Very true, it's very hard for me to solo BF3. If I do, I try to avoid the larger maps because it's impossible to get the randoms on your team that know how to fly the jet/chopper and to cap points with the tanks instead of immediately going to camp the enemy spawn. I get so pissed when I get in the gunner seat of the chopper on Kharg and every single random pilot goes to fly over the mountain and try to steal or catch the other chopper taking off. Please, let's go play the game. I also don't like when choppers chase jets. I understand when the jets are trying to attack you and you need to annoy them away with the heat seekers, but to keep chasing them just drives me nuts. Let's go destroy some tanks! I doubt I would be still playing this game after a year if it weren't for having people to play with, especially since you guys don't even care too much about how bad I am.
I actually prefer larger maps with larger tickets when I'm solo. I can kill lots, and if we lose, we lose, and it's not unexpected.

I can't jet whore like you Zath tongue.gif
post #11788 of 14300
Sure but how do you think I learned?

I can't get enough jet time when playing with a good group of friends - the game just doesn't last long enough!!!

I'll be on tonight as always. Got Jet Service Star #99 last night. So tonight or tomorrow night I get my first golden dogtags. w00!
