Xmas came early last night. Got my 10 kills without dying, unbelievably on Metro! 10-0 for me on Metro is about as probable as winning the lottery. (Sadly, the 10 and 20 kills dont' work if you're in a vehicle.) Also picked up 2 multi-kills, so just 2 left for Rambo. Lastly, I finally unocked the X-Bow, but have yet to use it. Been showing my son the ropes, since he just got BF3 Premium and Live for Xmas, but he was able to decently fly a jet the first time he jumped in, and managed to evade me for a few seconds, even. He also shot down a chopper with a regular tank shell within the first 20 seconds of his very first round.

How does a noob like you get 3 multi-kills? Vehicle-hor...

Newegg has the elgato for $140 today, FYI for anyone interested.

Forgive the noob-ish question. I played BF3 extensively for about 4 months after it came out, but haven't really played since. I'd like to get back into it, but am a little confused with all the new map packs. Anyone have a link with all the maps packs out now? And is it worth it to get the whole package? Or just buy them one by one?

It's fun to play all of them... although I rarely play close quarters because the 16 player limit.

If you specifically want to play more BF3 multiplayer, then buy the entire $50 map pack collection and think of it as buying BF3.5. After how well DICE treated us on Bad Company 2 with an entire year of free maps, I find it hard to justify the same level of support with an entire other game purchase price. The $50 asking price simply gets me too many other new experiences elsewhere in gaming, rather than just more of BF3.

So the question is: Do you specifically want more BF3, or do you just want a multiplayer game to play? BF3 multiplayer is extremely solid, but it would be kind of silly to get back in to without the investment in maps. If you're going back, then go whole hog.

The "premium" things gets you a few goodies and they are both the same price iirc so why not.

I think the new maps are worth it. They add much more than maps to the experience. They all have their own personality and just feel different. Do you want COD style play, hit up the first(Or second I cant remember) DLC. Want HUGE open gameplay, the next is for you. Want close, but still BF play, the latest works great. They have a few different game modes and switch things up nicely.

Bottom line other games add new maps, BF adds new feels and experience.

Back to karkand - has tanks jets and choppers . building destruction is a little more than the other maps.

Close quarters - no vehicles very fast paced, close spawns, and has gun master game mode

Armored kill - large maps, all major vehicles, probably a little too large of maps for console player limit IMO, flag distance is long and boring if you dont have a vehicle. Tank superiority game mode.

Aftermath - Limited vehicles, more infantry focused, scavenger game mode.

End game is another map pack that is supposed to be released in march. Not many details yet other than capture the flag will be a game mode and dirt bikes are a new vehicle. So if you get premium it will be included otherwise it will be an extra thing to buy if you go individually.

If I were to make the decision again I'd buy premium, but bf3 is one of my favorite fps games

I'm mostly speaking from a conquest game mode perspective.

Funny thing is that my son only needs one multi-kill to complete the Rambo assignment...and he's only had the game for one day!

Thanks for the advice on the map packs. I did get Back to Karkland since it came with the game. So, if I rule out Close Quarters, I can get the other three for 45 bucks. But then again, might as well spend the extra 5 and get them all. I never really got bored with BF3, just didn't have time this summer. And now I have Black Ops 2, but that's been out for one month and I'm already bored with it. Time to get back to BF3.

If I were to do it over again, I'd pick up Premium. But at the time, it was hard to justify $60 for the game and another $60 for premium. Now it's just $60 for both (as low as $30 on black friday). Hard to pass up at those prices!

Uh, I think he's a ways off from that, Zath. However, I'll tell you all this: my kid is the luckiest person in the world. Little punk can run around in wide-open terrain like he's invisible and never get shot. Can stand in a hallway and just mow down enemies while bullets seemingly just bounce right off him. He was chasing down the mobile AA through a huge field and the driver actually let him not only catch up, but C4 him. Watching him play is like being in some universe where everything that happens is the exact opposite of what happens to me.

It was a little tough after almost a week off. Well that and over a year in and I still haven't landed on my guns of choice yet. Tried Hapi & Snake's m16a4 and m4's and really didn't do so well...but did better after taking off heavy barrel and putting on flash suppressor. Went back to the g3a3 and did very well with it.

But idk these new maps are pretty crazy. Almost too crazy really. I think I'm ready to move on back to normal maps and just incorporate these aftermath maps into the mix. I do wonder what the perfect playlist would be. Hmmm?
