Battlefield 3 - Page 429

Thanks, Snake. I'll remove the foregrip then. I was noticing a ton of spray. Probably doesn't help that I like to move around when I'm engaging someone, too. Bad habit, I guess. Suppressor isn't unlocked yet, but I'll try it out when I do.
Its funny how you are deadly accurate on the jet but you say spray a lot with the guns. I am the exact opposite. I cant hit anything with the jets. My aim is always spraying around the target when I fly.

Just remembered .. Tip for anyone.. If you come around corner face to face with a guy and have a habit of LDS, ALWAYS. ALWAYS. Pull right trigger first and then bring the left. By the time you bring the sight up you already have 3-4 bullets in the guy. Do it especially if its only one guy. I dunno if hapi does but I win 95%+ of the fights I'm in if you can start firing THEN ADS without ever getting off the trigger.
It also helps to suppress his screen. Harder to see when trying to find the target (you).
To expand on what snake is recommending... helps to have your sights ready in anticipation of where the action will likely be. In snake's videos you always see him sighting areas ahead of him. Pre aim as much as possible so you're not having to spend much time targeting. And above all, fire your gun the moment you see someone, DO NOT wait to until the crosshairs are on the target to fire. If you let bullets fly early you'll suppress the mofo, or if you're lucky even get a hit. They'll have trouble hitting you if suppressed, so burst fire early and then worry about aiming all the while burst firing.

You guys have got to try TDM on Azidi Palace. It is a really good map for this mode. Right now in my opinion it is the best I've played on for TDM. It is very similar to Metro Conquest. It is completely team oriented. Holding the palace is key. But there are so many ways in. Huge battles take place in the long, large hallways. It is completely chaotic, and a blast. In TDM you can't spawn on your squad mates, so someone has to run Recon for the spawn beacon. That is basically a must unless your team is just completely dominating in which case you basically never die. If you do then it can be a while before you get back into position to really support your team by holding the upstairs. So a spawn beacon is pretty crucial. Really every class can have a large effect, even Engineer with their rockets.

Basically it just becomes a big battle over the upstairs, sometimes with the upstairs getting divided into two or three separately controlled spaces, much like B flag on Metro. I've never played TDM matches like this map plays out. It is one of those things that just works. People really can't go off and do dumb stuff, so it really brings each team together for a slug fest. It's pretty darn cool.

That does sound fun.

Yeah what others have said. I don't use anything but suppressor on the A3. But you're right, moving will definitely put more spread in your aim. I have a bad habit of doing it at times also. I try to just keep still for mid to long shots and move while firing in CQ.

Zath, love the achievement. When I get a chance I'll post some clips from that game.

Had fun playing tonight, good games guys, been too long smile.gif

Don't know what's going on but I guess my mic has been going in and out not sure if you guys heard me half the time, probably should get one of those 5.1 headphones+mic setups at this point anyway, need to keep in quiet most of the time now..

Yeah I definitely enjoyed playing with everyone again. The new maps are nice. Better than Karkand, but not as nice as Armored.

M16A3 is amazing now that I've hit my groove with it. Removing the foregrip solved almost all of my issues. I'm also making a conscious effort to fire, then aim while firing instead of just aim -> fire or hipfiring. Definitely seems to be working out better. I still need to figure out the pinpoint accuracy part of the gun as well as making sure I don't accidentally switch to single-shot mode (ugh!). All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. Currently using Kobra RDS, silencer, bipod (for the lulz). Does having bipod give any negative effects (like extra weight up front)?

Edited up some sniping shots. Learning how use the editing software so no effects and the music isn't synced, so it's more of a rough cut with audio track dropped in to make things interesting.

I second this. I joined MPH on the AVS server yesterday and although I hate playing TDM, I really enjoyed those games on Azadi Palace.

Lol, I remember you saying it was in single shot mode yesterday, I hate when that happens. I don't think the bipod has any negative weight effects. The only thing I don't like about it is deploy time. I would be going to get behind cover and see someone and attempt to shoot them and the bipod would deploy when I really didn't want it to.

Had fun the couple of games I played last night. Couldnt stay on for long, but had fun having a good bit of peeps on.

Any one hopping on late this morning or early afternoon? I'm going to get some games in.

Awesome! Hapi that was great man. You had some nice kill streaks and some good long shots. Liked the ending clip and you and snake camping with knife and pistol out biggrin.gif
post #12857 of 16243
I'll probably be on this afternoon around 3pm central
post #12858 of 16243
Question about the M16A3: So, I currently have the foregrip and suppressor as attachments, and I burst fire at almost all distances and only go fully auto when in close situations, does equipping the foregrip still have a negative impact? I have gotten into the habit of bursting at any distance unless I'm using an LMG (the first shot recoil is so horrible on most of the LMGs that bursting is worse than full auto). I recently read that the foregrip got a buff because they nerfed it into uselessness with the attachment adjustment patch.
Lol hapi all their base does belong to you. I have the hardest time with those longer scopes for some reason, i zoom in and get vertigo or something lol

Zath I'm not sure if the bipod has negatives besides what trail mentioned. I use it on the silenced as well and like it because it helps with range or just watching a hallway waiting on the flag to cap etc.. BUT it is annoying as hell if you ADS in/out very much because of the damn deployment. Its definitely a to each their own attachment.

I should be on tonight.

Thx man. I'm glad my editing was good enough to give the illusion of kill streaks. wink.gif

Yeah, earlier in the match snake and I rampaged them in a chopper, so later on when we sacked their spawn beacon they apparently had enough and booted us!

Snake - those high powered scopes are awkward as hell to use. To be honest, I find all scopes from 3.4x up difficult to use.

Battlefield™ is a big game. Balancing a game as diverse as Battlefield 3 requires constant attention, multiple iterations, and both a detailed approach as well as a broad vision. To start, we begin with the broad vision: Rock, Paper, Scissors, Tank, Jet, Infantry, Boat, Helicopter. At the heart of “Battlefield Balance” is the idea that no single soldier can be all powerful. We believe this makes the choices presented in Battlefield more interesting, as the player is not simply advancing an ever steeper power curve, but rather the player is consistently presented with new choices. The choices a player makes, whether before spawn, at spawn, or when playing will determine which role he plays and what abilities he possesses.

No silver bullets
For example, on a vehicle level a jet can destroy a tank, but an AA vehicle can destroy a jet, but the tank can destroy the AA. Only through teamwork can the tank be protected from the AA and the AA protected from another tank. Each of the vehicles is powerful within its role, but no one vehicle can master everything. Teamwork though, trumps all. The attack helicopter is a great example of a situation where two players, cooperating in the same vehicle can greatly increase the power of the vehicle. With a gunner and a pilot the attack helicopter can engage both ground vehicles and infantry, as well as defend itself against other helicopters. However, even the attack helicopter is vulnerable to the jet, or an AA vehicle, or even infantry with a SAM launcher. It is when players find all powerful combinations that we need to do a balance update.

Battlefield 3 made some major additions to game balance: vehicle disable, suppression, and deeper weapon customization all have a major impact on how Battlefield 3 is balanced. Suppression is an addition generally unique to Battlefield, as we felt that shooters really didn’t represent the unnerving fear that comes from being truly shot at in an authentic way. Suppression allowed us to better represent this psychological effect of being shot, while also adding to the gameplay. Being able to pin down and suppress a player so he cannot accurately return fire opens up new tactics and strategies for dealing with threats. A player with an SMG might not be able to put effective lethal fire on a sniper, but he can put enough rounds near the sniper to suppress him and get into cover.

A Delicate Balancing Act
Of course all of this is a delicate balancing act, and based on community feedback in the last update we made some tweaks to how suppression is calculated. We increased the size of the suppression sphere (bullets going through or impacting in this sphere cause suppression) in order to allow better suppression of targets in windows or behind some kinds of cover. Previously players would have to shoot over the cover, and this change allows the bullets that hit the cover to provide some suppressive effect. Of course, the closer a bullet passes to the player the more suppression he receives, and some tweaks were made to how close a bullet must be to fully suppress. I’m generally happy with the larger sphere, as it makes suppression clearer (and was a small adjustment), though community sentiment is clear that while divided a significant number of players dislike the changes made to suppression. We look forward to continued community feedback on how these changes are affecting Battlefield 3. Based on that feedback we may make additional adjustments in the future.

Finding the Perfect Accessory Combo for YOU
For weapon customization, we did an in-depth analysis of how players were customizing their weapons and found that players, especially high level players who have many unlocks, were generally gravitating to a single combo: Foregrip and Suppressor. When we see many players gravitating towards a single setup, as game designers we can conclude that the other choices are not interesting enough to give players reason to try them out. We want players to experience the width of the game, and for this reason we concluded it was time to make a change. I think it’s been an overall improvement for the game. There’s some confusion that comes when a system wide change comes, as players find their go to combo suddenly is not as good as it was. It’s time to try out some new combinations! Which playstyle do you want to go for below?

Jack of All Trades
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Flash Suppressor

Kertz’ Comments: To be blunt, previously the Flash Suppressor was worthless. Post update it has received a huge buff: It now substantially reduces the muzzle climb of a weapon, making it much more controllable. Pairing the Foregrip and the Flash Suppressor together will give your weapon a huge boost in controllability, and this will especially help with high rate of fire weapons like the F2000, AEK-971, A-91 and FAMAS.

Short Range Stealth
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Suppressor

Kertz’ Comments: The Foregrip’s muzzle drift reduction works well at short range and pairs well with the Suppressor’s minor muzzle climb reduction. You’ll be invisible on the minimap, you’ll have a significantly reduced muzzle signature, and your weapon will be more controllable. Finally by pairing the Suppressor and the Foregrip together the Suppressor’s minor accuracy bonus fully offsets the accuracy penalty of the Foregrip — your gun will be just as accurate as if you had no accessories at all.

Hip Fire Run and Gun
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Laser Sight

Kertz’ Comments: The Laser Sight gives a massive bonus to accuracy from the hip and will allow you to be much more accurate while mobile. Since most of your fire will be from the hip, adding a Foregrip will reduce muzzle drift and make your fire more controllable without feeling any of the downsides of the Foregrip. You can also toggle your laser sight on and off to afford a bit more stealth if the situation requires. Remember, the laser sight only helps from the hip, so turn it off when you’re aiming down the sights to increase your stealth!

Medium Range Marksman
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Heavy Barrel

Kertz’ Comments: This has been a clear source of confusion in the community. Should I pair a Foregrip with my Heavy Barrel after the update? My answer is a definite yes. Although the Foregrip decreases Aimed Accuracy, the Heavy Barrel’s Aimed Accuracy bonus has been increased to offset the Foregrip’s penalty. Pairing the two will still give you much greater Aimed Accuracy than a stock weapon, as well as reducing your muzzle drift. You will see some increased muzzle climb, however you’ll also be getting increased range out of the Heavy Barrel so your hits will have more impact at Medium Range.

Long Range Marksman
Primary accessory: Bipod
Secondary accessory: Heavy Barrel

Kertz’ Comments: If you want to get the absolute best accuracy out of your weapon, this is the setup for you. The bipod has absolutely no downsides when undeployed, and when deployed it gives a huge boost to accuracy both aimed and from the hip as well as substantially reducing muzzle climb and drift. You’ll also get the increased range of the heavy barrel making you a threat to even snipers when using your deployed bipod and a high zoom optic.

These are my recommendations. There are several combinations that haven’t been covered here, so experiment to find your best post update accessory combo. There’s at least one combo that’s perfect for your unique playstyle, so try a few and you’ll likely find not just a new accessory combo, but a whole new playstyle. You can find a handy guide below so you always know what to expect when experimenting with the different accessories discussed above. Have fun, and let me know in the poll below how you like to play!

Thnx for the the read!
To any of you laser guys, please continue to use it when we play each other =P. Corners are the only thing I can see justifying using it.
Can't even begin to count how many times a match I spot and kills guys because their laser was bobbling around or they were looking at you.

The author forgot the d-bag approach: Tac light and foregrip

Got home early. Hopping on in a few.

I only use it with the MP7. To me that gun is a great hip fire gun and the laser makes it that much easier. Thats the only gun I will use it on though.

Lol! That's alot of achievement points for being crash-killed by Zath. wink.gif

Zath, ever since I put Suppressor on, I tend to get shot alot less now...at least by the secondary guy that sees me when I'm engaged with another enemy. Quite honestly, ever since the Silent Assassin came out, it seems like I do better with silenced pistols than anything else. Reminds me of running around on BadCo2 with nothing but the pistol the entire round, save for sniping out snipers from their snipety-campity-snipe-snipe-hidey-holes. smile.gif

P.S. Sorry about the quick bail today, but late to get the wifey = bad husband.
No worries about the bail. And yeah I'm finding myself ninjaing around the map with snake-like k/d ratios thanks to the suppressor.
So for some reason in Conquest mode I have had nothing but trouble on the Aftermath map Azidi Palace. Shiles, Snake and I lost a high ticket match a week or two ago by like 2 tickets, and other nights my team never really had a shot. Well the last match of last night it was just Shmoopy, Lazy and myself left and that map/mode came up on a 200% server. Our spawn was back by D and E, which seems a decent bit away from the other three flags. So the three of us just tried to hold A, B, and C using spawn beacons to our advantage. I think if we didn't take that approach we would have be demolished. So a 500 ticket match. It started out bad. Their team seemed to be spread out enough to where we could never hold a single flag very long. At one point our tickets were 280 to their 380 tickets. Well I think our team finally woke up (and me personally my sniper shots started landing) and we ended up winning by 140 tickets. Quite the turnaround.

I think midway through the match that the other team felt they had it in the bag. IDK, but something about the match was very satisfying. It just seemed to be a nice hard fought win.

I recorded it...32 minutes. With speeding up the non action scenes I could only whittle it down to 25 minutes. So here it is.

(if you don't watch it all, we take the lead at the 18:30 mark...I have a nice triple kill at the 20:50 mark...and the last 2 minutes were pretty nice (I was just gonna protect what we had and milk the clock but I said screw that I want to finish strong))

(oh by the way, ever since Scavenger mode came out I have been using the M98B sniper rifle with the 4x Acog scope. I picked it up in that game mode and I really like that setup, so I have been using it regularly. It seems to be a really nice combo. Nicer for longer ranges than some of the other bolt actions because of the high velocity / less bullet drop of the M98 rifle. I think I struggle with closer ranges using that gun versus the other bolt actions, but still like it more because of what it offers for medium and long ranges. But yeah, I am probably done with the higher power scopes, because with this gun it seems to offer a better setup.

Oh and getting on now.
