I'll be on tonight as well. Just got to get my daughter in bed first.

For those that have played CTF...can the flag carrier shoot while holding the flag? I only got to play a few maps yesterday and wasn’t paying attention to that aspect of it. I did notice you could carry the flag and drive a vehicle. I kinda felt that you should only be able to be a passenger but haven't played enough to see if it makes it too easy.

I'll be on in a hour.

Can the AVS server be set up for a random rotation of all the game types on the new maps?

Medusa Bike! Javelin "Tries" to lock on...turns to stone! You cant even look at the thing.

It can't do a random setting. You can select up to 15 maps, each with a specific game mode. On top of that you can select how many rounds for that map. The ticket percentage is a universal setting and applies to all game modes selected, as does the number of rounds.

While in game though you can select what map you want to play next.

I think my server is only good for a couple more days, not sure. You should be able to jump in and play around with the settings, or create you own playlist. We can save up to five playlists, and Dice has several that we can choose from.

Good games tonight. We should probably play against each other more often, at least that is what Shmoopy would probably want.

Glad to see more AVSers are trying the "no cheat-seeker" way of life! smile.gif

Quite honestly, my favorite thing about Air Superiority is that more and more of you are getting some jet time. Even though I have nearly 62 Service Stars in jets, it's not necessarily something that I love, like Zath does. Sometimes I get bored flying if wingman gets too many kills. Sometimes it feels like work, going up against 5 guys at once. I only learned to fly jets as a necessity, in that I wanted to have the ability to take down enemy chopper pilots that were raping. When Zath's not around, I feel somewhat obligated to be in the air if we're in a tight match and the enemy's air force needs to be taken down or at least engaged. That's not necessarily bad, per se, but I know that I do FAR more damage to the enemy by being in a tank, taking objectives, and bleeding the other team out. Being in a jet isn't foreign to me, but a tank just feels like home. cool.gif

Played a 1400 ticket cq metro last night. Winning, the losing at 1000 tickets, then winning at 600 tickets, then game locks up. SMH.

That last match was awesome for me. I TV missile'd you and shot your chopper down twice. But I can't forget how many times you hit me with the TV missile before that. I had more fun destroying you guys with that Vodnik AA. It has no armor at all, but if you are sneaky, you can really clean up in that thing. I got 15 kills with that thing in the CTF match on Kiasar Railroad. At first I thought it was way OP, but it has no armor and it seems like it takes almost 10 seconds to reload.

I forgot you don't have premium like me. Hit me up if you ever want someone to join you. I've been reimmersing myself in skyrim. Fun stuff.

I agree, the new vehicles are very powerful but have no armor at all. Perfect balance I think.

It's official. I am HORRIBLE at jet flying. Played my first game of air superiority last night, and wow is it not for me (5 - 29!!!!!):

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/battlereport/show/2/79076999/180644836/

Spent most my time trying to actually play the objectives, imagine that. Scored second on my team with a K/D ratio of less than 0.2. Goes to show how the rest of my team didnt really care that the ultimate objective was to cap flags.

Call me crazy, but an air superiority mode with just helicopters would be AWESOME. Max 16 person server, four Vipers and four little birds and each side. Jets are just no fun, but thats most likely because I suck at them.

CTF is awesome. And yes, the flag carrier can shoot and do everything you can normally do.

One thing I haven't figured out, when the enemy drops your flag, does that flag get captured faster (i.e. returned to your base) if there are multiple friendlies around it?

I started playing hardcore about 6 months ago and have never looked back, almost impossible to get used to vanilla mode now. Anyone ever wanna try hardcore join on me, I'm usually playing with my buddy "Bmunchies" and am in a party, but we're all about teamwork.

I agree that an all chopper only mode would be cool. They did that with Ace Combat and it was pretty neat. Though I think you'd still end up with tons of lock-ons, though, since the main setup would be laser/ecm/heat seekers for pilots and guided missile/zoom optics for gunners.
mph - thanks for that info, all this time and I've never messed with any of the server settings.

Spyder - Heatseekers work great for air superiority in combination with guns. It really helps out your teammates too, cuz locking on the enemy will get them to pop flares or make evasive maneuvers which your teammates can then capitalize on. And I don't think they're easy to use at all, or else everyone would be racking up mass kills with 'em. Every game I've played the majority of players manage less than 5 kills for the entire match. Cheatseekers for life! Although a gun only variant of the game would be pretty cool.

Hondeboyman - the flag does seem to capture faster with people around it.

Those were fun games last night. Of course playing against each other was the most challenging and enjoyable. When you get killed by a random is frustrating, but when it's someone on your friend list it's funny, so when playing against each other win or lose it's always fun. I had the most fun last night tank whoring Nebandan Flats when we were attacking... I was just hanging back pounding the mcoms with tank shells watching doritos light up and disappear. Wayward had my number last night, he killed me a lot and destroyed a number of my tanks.

Yeah no doubt having heat seekers equipped in AS gives your team a better chance to win. If you don't equip them it is definitely a handicap in my experience. I do better with them equipped than not and I think it takes less skill to use than guns. To me the advantage is locking on at a distance to either get them off a friendly's tail, make them pop counter measures, or make them turn so they will be in better position to shoot w guns. The problem I have is that it sucks when most everyone if not all have heat seekers and we only have one counter measure and below radar doesn't work reliably even when flying through trees. My biggest gripe is the effectiveness of below radar. If that can't be fixed a gun only mode would be more fun in my opinion. If you are new to jets you can still get MVP without using heat seekers.

I'm thinking about trolling people by equipping the 100 jet service star tag (or jet kills tag) and seting all my unlocks to nothing biggrin.gif

I thought AS rocked! Don't recall being positive but maybe once, not too negative overall but ended second or third in points nearly every time. It is an absolute blast though if your into jets. Would like to have seen the Rush jets in as extras if someone wanted to try them out.

The mode really gives you a good opportunity to learn flying (evading, gunning, etc.) 2v2 jets sucks if your out piloted on the other side but 12v12 at least gives you a chance at some cockpit time rather than instant death. It plays like scavenger, so move in packs. Orbiting around the balloon objectives is kind of cool to do too.

I think heat seekers are a major issue if your really bad in the plane. Not a knock to anyone but if you have any inkling of evasion their not too bad. If your in a modern jet combat battle with 12 jets you'd be locked a mile out and not even see who is firing. So I'm ok with the beeping. Got my share of kills with and by with them but never felt too encumbered by them to keep me from playing the mode again. Only thing that bothered me was the constant state of tension my hands had on the controller to fly right and get around.

I tried ECM but seems like I still got a near constant lock anyway even once the ECM was popped followed by boom boom dead once the ECM wore off at times. Probably several planes locking at once but who knows. Flares I may have tried briefly but extinguisher seems to give me the best life expectancy. Theory is that I'm getting hit no matter what, may as well recover some health if possible. I also think ECM and flares are like blood to a shark and attract way too much attention. Beam scan, cheater, and extinguisher were my best combo but I can see using belt feed once I get better on the gun.

I was tired and I left before we could attack but I should of played it to see if it was our team or if the map sucked ass for defending. For a good 5 minutes the screen would not stop shaking. I felt like you guys had 3 tanks, the asrad, and both choppers doing nothing but raining down bombs on the MCOM's. There was no cover at all, half the time I was stuck on Shmoopy or just couldnt tell where I was and what was going on.

I checked the report and I died 20 times, most of the game. I would love to know how many were from bullets, I dont think it was many.

This especially. At distance when out of gun range I'm Seeking, but switch to guns when you're on a jet's tail.

I've been running stealth and extinguisher with good results. Most of the time when I get disabled, the attacker will break off pursuit thinking he'll get the destroy, but I just wait a sec and fire the extinguisher and I'm back in the game. But then again I tend to avoid capping with everyone else, and try to stay more on the fringe looking for kills.

Ran into a guy last night that was insaine. It took him a short 1-2 second burst and I was DEAD...not disabled.. but blown up, jet falling in a ball of flame, looking at the load screen, DEAD! He killed me about 20 times and he had like 80 something kills and left or was booted.

I really dont think I am going to play too much AS because it is absolute BS with heatseakers enabled. It is not fun. Whoever at DICE said "An all jet mode would be awesome for BF3, Heatseakers for all will be cool!" needs a junk punch!
Zath - you'll clean house in that game mode easy peasy. I've been at the top or near it in most of the games I've played, and you know how weak my flying is.

Spyder and Nexus said it well for others, that it's a great opportunity to get some time in a jet, and you should fee yourself improving even after a couple of games.

That map is tough to defend, but I imagine with a couple soflams and a few javelins you could negate the vehicles easily, but where's the fun in that. We barely held the last mcom in the game you should've played.

I think it was Shmoopy that C4'd me at the B mcom inside that big warehouse... he ran by me at full speed, dropped a C4, didn't break stride, and blew my up before I could even fire a round! That was hilarious, he ran across the screen so fast and then boom before I could even react! biggrin.gif

I agree, while it is fun to steamroll teams and win all the time, I really enjoy having a good back and forth battle with competent players on the other side. Also, it's funny to hear everyone's reactions in the party. Somehow my mic got just a little bit disconnected during that last rush game and I didn't get to hear any of mph's rage. I didn't notice until the round was over and mph had some nice words for me. I think he may have gotten a bit pissed when I T-bagged him and Shiles when I shot down their chopper.

I remember that match, it was horrible. The screen was shaking for the entire match. I think it's the first set of MCOMs, where the bomb is on the ground floor of the two-story building, there is absolutely no cover for the defenders. You can destroy every bit of the buildings. The maps aren't as bad as the Armored Kill maps, where it is almost impossible to lose on offense, but the attackers definitely have the advantage here.

Yep, that was me. Sadly, I committed suicide. It seems like the blast radius for C4 is larger now than it was before. I was hoping I'd be safe around that small corner because there is so much crap in that room, I was not that lucky.
I guess I am in the minority about heat seekers. 90% of the time I get shot down by a heat seeker its from a player that uses beam scanning, the only perk I have a problem with. I have been using ECM and all I do is once I hear a lock I hit the ECM and drop to below radar, very important to learn where below radar works and doesnt work. Most times they leave me alone but there a few who stick with me and start to use the guns. Only the beam scanners will be able to relock and fire before I have a chance to hit below radar. I dont wait to use the ECM, I hit it as soon as I hear it. Problem is the sound in the game sucks at times and mix in the beam scanners and there are times they get to fire before I have chance to react with ECM, then its a hit or miss on if I get hit or not. But in the end I dont mind heat seekers. Yes I have them on but I have rarely used them as I have gotten more kills with the guns then I have with the heat seekers.

Maybe Dice will release variations for the mode like they did with Gun Master.

This.

Just like any other game mode, traveiling in a pack will get you kills, assists, etc. I told someone a couple of nights ago that said they were terrible in jets (can't recall who) to just pick one friendly and follow them. Either wait for enemy to pop flare, wait 2 seconds and cheat-sheet them down, or mop up with a second set of guns on the target. Not only do you get more kills/points/assists by flying in herds, but you also can confuse the hell out of enemy jets trying to lock on since the lock will often jump from one plane to the next. cool.gif

P.S. Don't follow me, since you're likely to crash. I've been trying hard to test the boundaries of the below radar on AS. redface.gif

P.S.S. I still won't equip seekers. The time I waste locking on and hoping they break off could be spent shooting someone off your ass instead. wink.gif

Hapi - we did manage to get you guys to 0 on that last MCOM but the rain for death from all the vehicles was just to much. All I heard was MPH telling his pilot to keep firing on the MCOM

That was me. I have been getting better with my guns though. But even if I was a great shot I would still go for flags first and kills second so you could still see me up in the leaderboards with very little kills.
You know Nexus I didn't think until you said it, but yeah exactly, flares and ECM are like blood to sharks when they are popped. I usually go slightly out of my way to fire off a couple heat seekers when I see someone close by pop, especially flares, because it is simply an insta kill (unless they suicide or someone else hurries up and shoots them down first...either way they definitely are toast).

No Shmoopy, I actually thought the teabag of Shiles and I was pretty funny after you shot us out of the Heli.

Yeah Lazy, I actually thought that when we had zero tickets on the last M-Com that you guys had disarmed and that we were going to lose. I bailed out of the chopper hoping our team would spawn in and I could arm it again. But then the round ended and we won. That is a weird map, because it is so wide open. I noticed though the battle goes back and forth based on who is controlling the vehicles. Yeah laser designation plays a huge roll for that map, at the very least it does so against the two choppers from what I had noticed.

Reading these comments about Air Superiority got me thinking. I tried to follow Hapi around but every time I did, almost immediately a guy would go for him or at least get close enough to Hapi for me to feel I had to take care of that enemy. Basically everytime I was immediately sidetracked. There seem to be too many enemies to be a good wingman is what I am saying. Instead, after thinking about it, it seems the better tactic for a couple guys would be to decide on one flag to defend the entire match. Anybody that comes there you go after. You could expand from there I suppose, meaning claim the flag closest to your spawn and go for the middle flag occasionally, jumping back to your spawn flag if it is taken. Or if 4 guys or more just split up and two teams of two could each claim a different flag. I don't think flying all over the map and capping different flags all the time seems to be the best tactic when I compare that to my new theory. Plus that theory seems more squad oriented and possibly more rewarding.
