I'll hook up with you Nex tomorrow night on the "dark side". Gotta get the rust off on BF3 in order to be sharp and fined tuned next week when the BF4 beta drops. GTA V has been taking up a lot of my limited gaming time lately. It's addicting..

Btw, how long is the BF4 beta gonna last? I'm going to have limited gaming time for the next week and a half. Stupid work is always getting in the damn way...

Lo beta probably lasts a couple weeks. I've been on my usual rotation of chaos playing several games at once but yea I'm down for some some dark side action unless the wife tells me different rolleyes.gif

Lazy looking forward to your super sexy vocals gracing my PS4 extolling the virtues of Sony biggrin.gif

After reading about the dearth of PS4 games that will be available at launch, along with the absolute avalanche that will soon follow, I'm getting interested once again. Add in the Vita price drop, along with the ability to play nearly any PS4 game on it, and things are ramping up. (BF4 on Vita could be really good...or maybe really bad.) While I've never been a huge fan of handhelds, I'm open to the wealth of possibilities now opening up. It's looking more and more like I made the right choice so very, very long ago.

Vietnam is still a good game. I don't know how they can make it even better than BC2.

Vita is OK for remote play not sure I could stand BF4 on it. KZ Mercs demo was cool but very demanding to play on such a small form factor. I'm not totally sold on remote play, but the Vita itself kicks @&&! I'm a believer now. Guacamelee and Dragons Crown offer cross save between Vita and PS3 so I can continue play at lunch. Really cool. Hopefully more cross buy and cross save games come along.

Far as consoles go, yea definitely no regrets on swapping over. I was about done with this gen on the 360 but after my swap the PS offers a metric ton of new games that are exclusive. Toss in PS+ and all its freebies and I'm buried in games. Seriously I could probably wait another year to finish all this....but I'm ready for next gen. I'm ready for 64 player goodness and killer graphics. Its time to move forward.

You'll have to send me another friend request. I denied your request since I thought you were just one of the hundreds that have tried to befriend me the past few weeks from Borderlands 2 now that I've achieved Ultra Supreme Being Status.

This is what I have found after playing my first games on pc the last few days.

Man, more players can make such a difference. I've found some maps really come alive with 64 players vs 24.

Like a Conquest match on Tehran Hwy for example. It becomes quite a tug of war. Very similar to Metro, because actually Tehran Hwy is really not all that big, and it is somewhat laid out like Metro with everyone fighting over the middle. Once a team gets locked out it is hard to get back in.

Strike of Kirkland is just ridiculous I've found. That's just a good map. Kharg Island too.

Some maps don't need that many players, but it is nice to have the option.

To me going from 24 to 64 player, alone, is worth the jump to next Gen. Hopefully the jump in graphics and frames per second is equally as good.

On another note I can't believe how quickly I have adjusted to keyboard and mouse controls. Even though I am still a long way away from being pretty comfortable with them, I have still come pretty far. That certainly almost drowns out any fear I had about going from a 360 controller to a PS4 controller.

I may take a break from GTA V to game with you guys on Sat morning. When you say morning, do you mean like 10AM central/eastern or like noon-1PM central/eastern? I am really enjoying GTA V, but I still get the BF3 itch from time to time.
My goal is to play enough between tonight and tomorrow to get my level 100. Then I am done with the BF3 for the 360. If I need to play I will use the PS3. I can get a whopping $8.40 if I trade it in. I didnt think that was to bad for a 2 year old game. But it has to be before Sat night.

I do have the itch as well but damn GTA V is fun.

So I think I am finally going to order my laptop so I can have it in time for BF4. My last final decision is the Graphics card. They are having a special on a HD 8970M but I hear I should go with the GTX 780M over it. The price difference is $250 and I am leaning on spending it but was if any of you that are more knowledgable on this have any input. Thanks

I know Dice recommends AMD so thats why I am not sure. I know it mosts likely a marketing thing also.

BF4 is optimized for AMD as I understand it.

Hold on there, cowboy! As I posted in the BF4 thread, it appears that only Conquest will have 64 players. The only "jump" that next-gen will be getting in player count on every other map mode is 4 more players per team, which isn't much. I was blown away when I read that, given how the CoD "gotta get a kill or die in 0.0003126 seconds or I'm bored" infection has spread to our game, ala the never-dead Metro-zombie garbage-map comeback. rolleyes.gif

Fortunately, I'm a fan of Conquest more than anything else, so it wont' affect me much.

I was also shocked and disappointed when I read that. For the full details:

Conquest Mode, described as “the quintessential Battlefield mode”, will be playable in the Battlefield 4 beta and is designed for 24 players on Xbox 360 and PS3 and 64 players on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Domination, also playable in the Battlefield 4 beta, is a fast-paced infantry-only variant of Conquest that made its debut in Battlefield 3: Close Quarters. It’s designed for 20 players across all platforms.

In Obliteration, one of two new game modes in Battlefield 4, both teams must fight to pick up the bomb, drop it off at one of their opponent’s three objectives, arm it, and destroy the objective. According to EA, “since there’s only one bomb at a time, you will often find yourself going from attacker to defender in the blink of an eye.” It’s designed for 24 players on PS3 and Xbox 360 and 32 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The other new game mode for Battlefield 4 is Defuse. Each player is given a single life per round, and teams can win by eliminating the enemy squad, or arming and detonating a military objective that they own. It’s a five versus five mode across all platforms.

The three remaining modes are Team Deathmatch (designed for 20 players across all platforms), Rush (designed for 24 players on PS3 and Xbox 360 and 32 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC), and Squad Deathmatch (designed for 16 players across all platforms).

I guess only PC is getting 64 man rush? Also, this probably means no mixed servers, unless you gimp certain conquest maps. Obviously I'm still getting the game, but this is disappointing news.

I read this also on battlelog awhile back about BF4 but again I wasnt sure if it was a marketing thing that AMD through some cash their way. Again they do make a good point bringing up the reason is because XB1 and PS4 are AMD. I dont know. I am putting my order in Monday and I have read from other sites mentioning that even though Dice mentions that, they still expect Nvidia to outperform the AMD. Again who knows.
I think AMD is coming out with all new cards late October, early November, so you might want to check into if that applies to laptop cards as well.

Also I responded in the BF4 thread about this potential game fail news about player counts. But now that I look at again, sounds like we need to figure out what they mean by the word "designed" and if it is flexible or a set in stone player count.
Slap head if those are set in stone. It would probably eliminate half of the game for me, not being able to mix more modes together with the higher player counts. What a shame...again...looking at you Close Quarters.frown.gif

I will do all in my power to ensure you don't get to 100. I propose the rest of us do the same!

Seriously how hilarious could this get?

- team bagging
- smoke rounds whenever he shoots
- Ghosting jets, jeeps, motorcycles
- drop buildings
- run away from ammo/health packs
- refuse to spawn off beacon/squadmate
- refuse to spot
- take a ride in the chopper... for the whole round

We can't make it easy for him. He must EARN his bucket!

Here's the AMD press conference showcasing their new line of GPU's. The Battlefield 4 feature walkthrough with a DICE developer starts at 2:16:20, the interesting part is the development of Mantle which will be implemented in AMD Catalyst drivers in December.

I, a pc noob, didn't understand what Mantle is supposed to be. At first I thought it was more for entry level Graphics Cards. Then as he went on, it seemed it was for all AMD cards and possibly more for the higher end pc's out there. Do you understand better what Mantle is? Will Nvidia not eventually reap similar benefits?
