DICE has already said that there will be jets, the ability to go prone, support for up to 64 players specifically for the PC version (24 on consoles), as well as a tweaked unlock progression so you can customize your class in a bunch of ways.
I hope there is 32.

Yeah, not sure. I don't think they have confirmed anything other than at least 24 on consoles..

I just wonder how much a decent PC would cost to run this game. I would end up hooking it up to my TV if I ended up getting one.

(IMO) a decent $120-$150 video card with a budget quad cpu $100 and 4Gb of ram $45 will do just fine.
e.g. from newegg
Nvidia GTX 460 768 ($145)
AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz ($105)
BIOSTAR A770E3 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard ($54)
CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 ($42)
A cheap sata II HDD, DVD-Drive and a case with PS

Man that is a lot less than I was thinking. Does not seem bad at all.

"just fine" means it'll look nothing like the video you just saw... and you're still paying north of $400-$500 for a crummy amd system with old hardware.

for me it needs to look as good as bad company 2, and of course it will... i'll be more than content playing on consoles. more players =/= more fun.

Here's a question...

has any console sandbox FPS game allowed more than 16 players total in a multiplayer match at a time?

Like many ppl I'd like this to have 24+ players in a match, but I don't remember any console games that have allowed over 16 players total in a match.

Anyone got an answer?
Maybe GTAIV?

frontlines had 50 people.

dedicated servers, 25 on 25.

i think even on p2p servers it was 32 total players, but i'm not entirely sure on that.

section 8 is also 32 players... and you can even run your own dedicated server on your home pc for xbox play

MAG will also do 256, if memory serves.

BFBC2 has 24 and Homefront is supposed to have 32. MOH had 24 as well.

Formula,

Out of curiosity, what do you think would be needed to run the game as it was shown in the demo (PC wise)? Thanks.

pixel enemy posted that video originally, if you look on their channel they have a 16 minute commentary, the guy is basically talking about his visit for that demo, and he said "it was the biggest computer I've ever seen in my life"

it may end up being like crysis was a few years back... "in game footage" was gorgeous, but (at the time) can only be computed by a super computer.... the average computer could play the game just fine, but even today crysis is a bit of a benchmark.

Formula,

Thanks for the information. I found the video you were referring to. One think that cracked me up is when they said if people thought the Heavy Metal map was big, they have not seen anything yet.

What i've been thinking since these talks of how many people on a server. In PC land the servers that have the 64 man games are generally avoided by the better players/groups. They are usually full of the guy that sits outside the base looking at the enemy flag waiting for someone to run across. Not the types that make good games. 32 is pretty ideal whether it be console or pc. The player to map space ratio just makes way more sense that way.

Good insight. Hopefully we get 32 player and we don't lose too much as far as map size goes.

I guess will have to wait and see what are the real spec requriments/recomendations for the game....My friend has that "crummy" athlon x4 $100 cpu and plays BFBC2 @ 1080p with a radeon HD 6850 O.C. and gets 45-50 FPS in the higest settings.

I see myself going back to PC gaming if this game lives up to the hype.

some "behind closed doors" stuff from GDC has been posted on youtube, might be removed soon, other versions have already been removed
post #203 of 14346
I watched at least 60 seconds of gameplay footage before I saw a crate. This game will be awesome.

I haven't been a PC gamer since 1999/2000. It's been almost 12 years since I was a PC gamer.

After watching this trailer, I think I'm going to start saving up 1 grand to try to build the absolute best tower I can possibly build for the arrival of this game. I might actually wait till early 2012, just so I can make absolutely sure what the most ideal hardware is for me to buy to have this game running as well as I can possibly get it, considering I'm spending $1,000 on the tower...

The challenge from DICE:

DICE is starting a new community challenge asking Battlefield fans to give us your feedback in the most creative way you can think of. We want to know what it is you want in Battlefield 3, whether it is game specific features, weapons, vehicles or anything! We don't just want you to tell us though. Come up with a creative and funny way to get your point across. The three entries that offer the best feedback will be sent a very special present after the release of Battlefield 3!
