Maps are a separate download on PS3. Patch was 850 mb and the maps are 1.3 gb. Wonder if the 360 download will end up being 2 gb then.

That jump off the cliff while Attacking on Rush in DAMAVAND PEAK......

Priceless....

Played a few rounds of Conquest/Assault on all the maps. Definitely need some more time on them, but good impressions so far.

Wake - same great Wake, but wow does it look different in FB2. It just seems huge, and so weird playing in such detail compared to 1943. Got into this one mid-way, and it was Assault. 3 flags. Jet and chopper spawn at the airfield on B, with A and C being at the opposite points of the island. I didn't see an option to spawn on the carrier, but believe that's because we were on defense...seems like offense may get 1 or 2 jets and a chopper on the carrier. Long run to B from either outer point..definitely want a vehicle to move throughout this map.

Oman - played regular Conquest on this and if I remember correctly, there were 5 flags on this map. Seems to be the smallest of the maps when flying around in the air, but I believe 3 of the flags were somewhat close in the city section while the other 2 were further out near the beach and carrier spawn side. It's definitely a good size map on the ground...spent a good amount of time flying around in the buggy between flags. Thing moves...to the point where I think my framerate was suffering from it. Jets, F35, and choppers.

Sharqi - awesome. Definitely my favorite of the bunch so far. 5 flags on Assault and 3 on regular. TV tower is E and C, respectively. Definitely going to be a problem for aircraft as during one game a couple from the other team were camped up there with stingers. This one is probably the largest of them all, and just a cool map to make your way throughout on the ground...especially in a tank. Lot of streets with elevation. Couple flags that can only be capped by infantry at the top of buildings.

Strike - 3 flags, believe for both CQ/Assault. Best part about this map is that everything can be destroyed. Destruction on this map is insane. Spent a shitton of time just absolutely wrecking buildings. Linear flags on this map, but not a bad thing with the number of buildings and alleys you can use to get between them. Smallest of the maps, no aircraft, but can see why this is a favorite of vets.

All in all, I'd say these will definitely be huge additions to the rotation. Can't wait to play some rush with you guys as my local PS3 buddies strictly play CQ.

Is anyone playing HC or is everyone still playing regular mode?

It is awesome. Heavily concentrated fighting at the first flag...WE WERE sneaking around to the outer flag and working OUR way back. It was working last night, but I'm sure a lot of teams will catch on.

I haven't started out on 'defense', so I'm not too sure what the spawn options are to start. I've seen mines at the beginning near the outer flags, so I'm assuming you can spawn anywhere but most people rush to the front flag.

So I've been reading some PS3 forums, and...

1. AA vehicle on Wake Island. Nice.

2. The F35 works as I said earlier - hold the brake to open up vertical thrusters. This means in dogfights you have to be VERY careful not to brake too hard or else suddenly you're going vertical!
It seems the F35 can't be taken out with HS when it's thrusters are in a vertical position. A couple of us tried to take it out last night and it was impossible - from what I could tell, it was when it was hovering that missles would not hit it. Hopefully it's just a bug that needs to be worked out.

This may have been answered already and if so I'm sorry for asking again. Will the new maps be in rotation with the old maps OR will they be separate like Vietnam was from the main multiplayer maps in BC2?

It's all in rotation.

Sounds meh on a console with only 24 players. Standby for half your team attempting to lone wolf around to the back flag to be a hero.

*laugh* Just read the rest of the posts...its already started.

Be a hero? Lone wolf? How about a squad going around to the back flag? Spreads the other team out.

There's no 'I' in team (see your post above). If your whole squad is doing that, great. If its a third of your team comprising solos trying to cap a back flag, then its probably screwing over the rest of your team. And spreading the whole team out on what is already a giant map doesn't make things more fun.

One of the best things the bad company series improved on over BF2 was adding the rush mode and it came out of several of the BF2 mods that incorporated this feature (supply chain?). By forcing the attackers to capture points before being able to advance it concentrated the fighting along a 'front'. The BF2 maps (and some of the BF3 maps tbh) were so big that it was relatively easy to solo around and just cap a flag and move on with little fighting...a virtual musical chairs of capture the flag. You can see it now even in some of the BF3 maps on console. The maps are SO big and there's so few players that the conquest games become more of 'whack a mole' then anything else. Add in 20% of your team is in the air and its even worse. Its why I rarely play conquest except for mostly the city maps. So while I'm excited to see some of these BF2 maps come back, I'm less than thrilled about conquest assault.

but doesn't assault force the action along a front, dictated by whichever flag is the first to be contested?

Fixed it for you Roto. I only play as a team, which is why I play this game instead of the other one.

But, if flanking is foolish, then call me a fool.

Flanking is not foolish at all and I completely agree as to why we play this game. But hopefully you see my point. This mode tends to encourage less teamwork rather than encourage it. I hope I'm wrong but years of BF2 leads me to believe I'm not.

No, its conquest with the defenders holding all the flags to start.
So I left my netbook on overnight to upload the two vids to YouTube. As of this morning... still uploading! Not even done w/the first one! Granted one is 3.5 gb, and the other is 1.5 gb. Still... ugh!

Right so as soon as a flag starts to get capped, all the defenders rush over to that flag to defend it. So all the action is in one place.

As opposed to standard conquest where people from BOTH teams run to neutral flags willy-nilly and THEN start to contest flags.

That's the idea but like I said with large maps and few players, the attackers inevitably try to end around to get the back flags. Then the defenders spread out trying to get flags back and hold onto the ones they have. Firefights end up being quick and fast due to only having to engage a couple (or one) people followed by long runs or rides back to the next flag in jeopardy. You can see it in some of the videos already on youtube. There's more time spent moving from flag to flag than fighting (the exception seeming to be Karkand which has no aircraft).

I love CQ type games but I quit playing it cause the maps are too dam big. Your right it's one giant whack a mole. Grand bazaar, Seine, Metro, Davamand, and Tehran are all about right. Caspian and Firestorm are just too much map for too few people. Spend too much time running around.

I thoroughly enjoyed Battlefield2 and just didn't get to it yet with how close the big games dropped this year. I haven't even completed Gears3 campaign and then MW3 came along and hate when you get behind in multiplayer with COD maps.

That being said, how would those that play BOTH games compare? Buy it or rent it?

I was a huge COD fan a few years ago, played MW and MW2 multiplayer to death....I had a great deal of fun but also got extremely frustrated at times....

I tried out BC2 about a year ago and have never looked back. The controls take getting used to, and the framerate isn't as silky smooth as MW games, but once the bullets start flying, you never notice. The graphics and destructibility in the BF games is what did it for me, as well as the awesome, large maps and the ability to use attack choppers, tanks, and now jets without have to get those pesky killstreaks.

If you rent BF3, be sure to get a free two day online pass from EA, just google it, it should come up.

Dam, I just reread your post, sounds like you wanted a BF2 to BF3 comparison, not COD to BF3....dam
