Battlefield 3 - Page 261

Next time, assume direct control!

BC2 was also my highest hour count. I think. Though ME may be more at this point...

Hmm that's kind of a bummer then, I'm not sure I'd want to make that sacrifice just to record gameplay. Granted, I haven't actually tried playing via component as opposed to HDMI...has anyone here compared the video quality of component vs. HDMI in a game like BF3?
You shouldn't notice a difference if you're using component. HDMI's only real benefit is combining audio and video together.

For PS3, it's a different story - 7.1 lossless and/or 3D. Since xbox only does 5.1 dolby and 2D, the benefits of HDMI are somewhat wasted on a 360.

Yep. Most won't see a difference, and many that do will see a perceived difference rather than an actual one, perhaps trying to justify that $1100 HDMI cable from BestBuy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/AudioQue...383276&st=hdmi cable&cp=1&lp=1 It is cleaner running one cable though, but not worth a grand! Talk about making Monster look affordable!

The only exception I can think of is if your display has different setting parameters and options for HDMI versus component, like mine. Even then, it's a matter of visual preference more than anything.

Some of those reviews are pretty funny, lots of trolling.

just read the reviews LOL!
lol Zath yep I should have.

BTW guys there is supposed to be big news announced at GDC about Battlefield (going on this week) my guess is there will be another stand alone expansion, maybe Battlefield 2143?
Weren't there rumors about some American maps? Coming Winter 2012. Seriously, seems like it's been a while since we've had any news on DLC, so hopefully some news comes out this week and the release date is within the next month or two.
Just an FYI to anyone needing more live time, a 12 month pass is only 35.99 on amazon right now, I picked one up because my 3 month expired a few weeks ago. I'll be online tonight but a little rusty

oh, and I will be on tonight and throughout the week -- turns out I will not be getting ME3 from Amazon until next week -- friend of mine ordered it for me christmas and did not do the release day shipping

Makes sense it happen prior to marriage, but now I can't imagine any woman wanting to get hitched with someone who played 700 hrs of Battlefield!

Go buy ME3 and just sell the one you get from Amazon next week.

I'm planning on getting the Shuttle w/Thunderbolt when it's in stock.

HDMI is the product of DCMA and features HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
When broadcasters and the consumer electronics companies first started talking about creating products that could receive and/or record HD content the Entertainment Industry lobbied the gov't to put in place anti-piracy restrictions in electronics.
One of those was HDCP, which is why you cannot use an HDMI ports to pass through HD audio & video on your LCD or Plasma TV.

As you can tell this was a complete success as piracy is all but dead.

DCMA/HDCP = PITA.

Razor, I would seek advice from someone other than myself...lol. I believe my personal options were limited because of my laptop capabilities. Your situation may be different.

Someone like Jammy may be able to help you. But his post above shows what he would get. : http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/

I'm guessing "popcorn tub with a hole in it"

Looks like an announcement is coming today:

Quote:

Finally it looks as though we'll be recieving our first glimpse of new Battlefield 3 content from GDC 2012. DICE's very own General Manager, KM Troedsson has confirmed via twitter that an announcement will be coming today / tomorrow (March 7th). This evening at the same time as the Game Changers presentation, EA / DICE held an exclusive press event showing the mysterious new content. Our guess is it's the new DLC "Close Quarters".

3 new expansion packs... (full press release)

Quote:

Powered by the Frostbite 2 engine, the next expansion packs are: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters in June, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill in the fall, and Battlefield 3: End Game in the winter.

· Battlefield 3: Close Quarters - In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.

· Battlefield 3: Armored Kill- Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history.

· Battlefield 3: End Game - The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

SWEET!. It's just a shame that they are limiting each DLC to a specific type of gameplay instead of a mix.
Nice that they have a road map, though I wish something was coming up sooner, and I wish that the first pack wasn't BF:COD.

I can't wait for ATV's again. Might have to fire up some BC2 once everyone is done with their ME3 playthroughs.
Thanks for posting that, Lowgn. No mention of jets though :'(

Pass on DLC pack 1.

Insta-buy on DLC pack 2.

I really hope it's like BtK and they can start integrating all of them into servers.

Harp - Sadly, I deleted BC2 from my hdd. But I have been contemplating firing it back up as well. Though I probably won't be done saving the galaxy until the time DLC pack 2 comes out
post #7823 of 14308
Yeah I don't like they split it infantry only and vehicle only DLC packs, wish they would split up the maps between those two packs.

Anyway, I hope they release the patch before that first DLC, been getting really annoyed with the MAV elevator exploiters even seeing them on grand bazaar now.

Totally. And if they would've added a *few* new vehicles for each DLC pack, it would almost guarantee a buy from me on both packs. Meaning more money for them. Oh, well!

Day 1 purchase on all DLC for this guy! Sucks that it's so far out I'm glad their breaking things up. You'd be pissed if you bought tight maps and one vehicle vs passing on what you don't like. Specific packs cater to specific play types. It'd be cool if they released the two packs close or simultaneous. End Game sounds awesome and inquiring minds want to know more????
Sounds great, hope the patch comes soon.
Idk...3 to 4 months is a pretty long time. Since they apparently have no info on the patch update, I'll assume the same timeframe. Guess I better work on my MAV elevator skills if I want to keep up since I'm terrible at it.
The first two are probably fairly vanilla just to keep people playing with the 3rd being a huge pack. Especially if its a year after launch. They'll probably use it to roll into the next game release in the year after.

Either way I'll be playing all of them, with how much time is put in the cost is pretty low.

I still wish they'd bring back the grappling hook.

I haven't had too many problems lately with Mav-evators. Not near as much as in the beginning but they are still there. Even then though the only way they seem to really influence the game is if they are using to jump off and take the flag you just capped.
I'm pretty disappointed to be honest. After reading all those articles before the game came out about DICE having "Massive DLC plans for BF3" that they supposedly restructured their studio around. It looks like the game is going to come and go with the same or less DLC as any other game.

Not sure if this was mentioned..

Battlefield 3 customizable servers coming to consoles

Quote:

Karl-Magnus Troedsson, CEO of Battlefield developer DICE, announced at an Electronic Arts event last night that customizable servers would be available for consoles in the future.

"All active players out there playing on consoles today will now have the opportunity to customize their servers and set them up exactly how they want them to play," said Troedsson. "Now this is a feature that in Battlefield on PC we've had for some time, but it's an absolute first on console. So, we're pretty excited about this."

The developer did not share details on pricing or a release timetable. In the meantime, start saying your prayers, Operation Metro.
