Of course heat seekers are very relevant for jet pilots as well. This has allowed me to double my jet skill with the new patch.
Unfortunately, like most of the other "fixes" in the new patch, this simply rewards those less skilled or experienced.
Not to sound like an ass or even saying that I'm "good" in any way; I spent LOTS of hours in the jet, honing my skills so that I could take down or at least serve as a distraction to enemy jets and choppers who were salivating at the chance to come spawnrape my team. Times once were that I could keep 2 jets and a chopper busy long enough for my wingman and/or our heli to at least get up in the air so we could have a fighting chance against a team intent on spawnkilling. Those days are gone.
More than a few times yesterday, one jet would chase while the other would do nothing more than fly off in the distance and line up the heatseekers. Add a chopper using the missles and it's over, regardless of how well I plot out my ECM or what absurd air maneuvers I pull off. These were not experienced pilots, mind you, but incredibly average ones at best. (Became insanely obvious after I shot them down with the AA gun.) Kudos to them for using teamwork, but, again, it's rewards for the weak, penalty for the experienced.
What once were fun arial dogfights (I haven't used heatseekers in jets for months, since rocket pods might actually help my ground forces instead of just me) have been reduced to little more than wondering where the next missle is coming from and being locked onto 100% of the time...that annoying lock sound continually droning in the background without break. Given the way things are now, I'll be going for the suicide divebomb on choppers every single time I get in a plane. (Got hatemail from a spawnraping heli pilot and his gunner yesterday for this.) At least I'll likely be taking out 2 guys to my one...and the droning will cease, at least for a few seconds.
Everything has evolved into "assisted shooting" now. I always joke about "heatseeking bullets for guys that can't shoot," but it honestly wouldn't shock me to see that at some point of enough people bitch and whine about aiming being "too hard."
