Yeah, they need to go back to making the havoc slightly slower but its gunners cannon more powerful and the viper being more agile but its cannon smaller.

So what is the deal with flares, I remember DICE switched it up. Does this sound right:

Beeping sound = heat seeker or guided missile starting a lock:

Deploying flare will delay full lock of heat seeker and guided missile?, but will not break lock

ECM jammer will break lock of guided missile but not of heat seeker


Constant beep = heat seeker or guided missile locked on and ready to be deployed or has already been deployed:

Deploying flare will distract and make only a heat seeker miss but not the guided missile

ECM jammer does nothing




If you have below radar equipped, flying very low will prevent a lock of either heat seekers or guided missiles

Lower pitched beeping = acuiring lock
Solid tone = Locked
High pitch Beep= Missile(s) are fired.


Also on your HUD you have the word "LOCK", I don't believe it is on the HUD when there is no threat. When it is flashing a lock is acquiring, when it goes solid they are locked.

The only way to break any sort of lock is ECM.
Flares will only distract missiles that have been fired, it will not break lock. I'm curious how this works with the guided/javelin though seeing as they are top down. If the pilot doesn't move I can see the missile still hitting plenty of times if the flares are deployed late, especially since the missiles have been accelerated.

If missile(s) is fired, ECM can be deployed last second (as in before missile(s) hit you) and the cloud "can" deter and destroy the missile(s).

did they speed up all projectiles? I had an easier time last night hitting choppers with the RPG/m320.

Also Red letter LOCK is Laser lock, the other color is heat (I believe this is the case). I saw it on a vid Zath posted.

Thanks for the tip on hitting the flare button multiple times, I've never done that and that probably explains why we get hit at least half the time when I deploy them. I always try to wait until I hear the fast beep and hit them right away. Sometimes they are just too close though.

I have found if you can determine what you are being locked on by then it makes a big difference on when you need to flare, especially while you are the gunner. If it is a jet with heat seekers it must be done immediately.

I think someone else mentioned it too, but has anyone else had trouble locking onto the Little Bird with stingers/iglas? The one moment I played I couldn't get a lock. Good in one sense, bad in another.

I wish the bigger maps had the Little Birds.

I haven't tried this setup yet, but with the attack choppers how well does the laser painter / guided missile work post patch? Is the ranger longer?

Oh, like I said I've yet to use my guns for all my kits, but your guys comments on gun battles and all the changes are freaking me out.

I seen that mine was replaced with the heavy barrel. I just figured they raised the number of kills to unlock the extended mag. But now that think about it I should have any number of kills it would have required. It doesn't make any sense. Do you think it is a mistake? (Don't get me wrong I think I would like the option of equipping the heavy barrel for that 5% of the time I use the 12x scope.). It almost seems like an error. IDK

The range seemed longer and locks quicker. I never heard any beeping waiting for the tone to lock, it pretty much auto-locked. It's also very nice that the missile actually travels faster. Won't have as many times that my second barrage of missiles kills the vehicle before the gunners essentially wasted missile gets there.

Last night as I said in game, I also had my heatseekers lock a ground vehicle and then go after it. I locked a jet and the split second before i fired the lock switch to a ground vehicle (amtrak or BMP) under the jet, as I fired they left and hit it. Thought that was pretty odd..

I didn't notice much difference in being able to survive in jet or chopper. Seemed the same, when you and your gunner were on the same page you will be fine. With the jet I just kept ECM on and never had any problems with stingers/choppers. Just have to know to leave the area when you are getting locked, not too complicated.

I haven't got to try many guns but my M16 and m4 were still rock solid.

Yeah a little iffy on the patch so far.

Gun play definately feels different and not sold on the new super supression. Don't know maybe will take some time to get used to.

In terms of vehicles it feels like all helis (including viper and littel bird) feel more responsive, could be my imagination. Also noticed they are muuuch more forgiving of bumping into things instead blowing up you have a chance to recover. Locks were insane, when was flying with Nexus alternating between ECM and flares we were constant with locks so much so that was hard to put in a decent attack run, even with switching to both sides of the island on wake, maybe the new stinger range is longer than we thought.

Most annoying of all to me in this patch is the virtual elimination of standard full rotation maps. All the EA P#### servers are gone in place of the rented servers. Such a pain to find a regular server now. Whoever suggested using the search option to search for "DICE" probally didn't notice that it doesn't consider your filter in the server browser, ie Region setting.

Not sure. Personally I think it was just a stealth change they made. The MG36 is a sweet gun, high ROF, low reload time and it was a real beast with the bipod and extended mags. I haven't checked my stats on it but I'd assume I have enough kills to have all the unlocks but I could be wrong. I'll have to check battlelog tonight.

I'm pretty sure the MG36 extended mag was noted in the patch notes. Maybe I should say that I knew about it before the patch hit, whether that was from patch notes, blogs, or PS3 people I can't remember.

It appears I do have some unlocks left for the MG36, so perhaps they just shifted the extended mags back in the unlock sequence.

Extended mags are listed on Battlelog as the final unlock for the MG36 (300 kills).

Unfortunately I already had them unlocked. Post patch they are grayed out in Battlelog and say null. Did some digging and I was unable to find anything but complaints that the ext mag was removed. No clue where I get the idea I've read about this before, probably just od'ing on BF.

Well that sucks. I didn't see a note about it in the patch list - must've been one of those "oh by the way" changes, similar to the horrible "DICE roll" (hat tip to Dallas) that they also seemed to slip in.

Just jump in an attack chopper with a decent pilot. See those giant numbers at the end of the match in the 40-60 kill range? Those are chopper gunner numbers. Hell, I'm a horrible gunner (what with being color-blind and can't see infantry) and I can still get 30-40 kills in a normal match...assuming the other team doesn't have a heli pro for a pilot.

Assuming you get 40+ kills, it's likely that you'll get at least 4 ribbons. Start communicating with the pilot and coordinating your ECM and Flares, and you could double that count easily.

Patch observations so far from the hardcore mode crowd:

Havoc is better still not = to viper. Not sure if that was intentional or not or if it even matters but, them be the facts.

I had the "firing blanks" issue as well. Big time on one server. Almost comical. Have had it intermittently since.

Getting suppressed really affects your accuracy. It's a very neat feature but time will tell if it will be an exploit. I like it at the moment. Adds intensity and injects a bit more strategy for both sides.

I was under the impression the soflam/javelin vs. aircraft "feature" was going away. Definitely not. Also, not getting a missile fired beeping tone when a javelin has been fired at me, while in an aircraft, while being laser designated.

AA missiles are actually useful. Stingers too.

Single shot destroy of aircraft when shot by tank, cool. When shot by RPG, not so much. Perhaps against little birds but seems ridiculous against transport and attack helos.

Gun play feels different but not significantly so. Changed features of different adds ons seem to be well balanced and add variety. Still working my way through all of them.

The SKS is a monster now. They balance it with what appears to me as slow bullet speed but that can be overcome for the most part.

Empty servers are awesome.

They need a better server sorting function in the browser. Minor complaint.

Expanded flight boundaries on a few maps by quite a bit.

Moving AA guns, specifically on kharg island, was a great idea.

Jets feel more responsive.

No power penalty for suppressor is awesome.

The visible round, when shot out of a sniper rifle, looks to be about 300% bigger than before. Kind of annoying.

I personally like the tank changes. It keeps people from being idiots and rolling them 5ft from an objective and just outlasting the MCOM arm. Keeps them at a distance and providing suppressive support. Feels more real now. Also fun to see tanks lined up a distance just shelling the crap out of field of battle.

Favorite new feature by FAR is the accuracy and power boost of mounted machine guns on jeeps etc. Fricken awesome. Actually useful now.

Spawning on top of vehicles seems to have been fixed for the most part.

Overall, mostly positive. The blank firing issue is maddening and probably the most glaring fault at the moment. I'm definitely enjoying the game more now.

Starting to get a little used to the overblown suppression effects. One thing that is still irritating is when I shoot at a person who hasn't seen me yet, I'm either hitting him or putting suppression on him, he shouldn't be able to turn and suppress me to the point of my guns recoil flying into the air and him getting the kill. If you are under the effects of suppression, your bullets should have their own suppressing abilities taken away.

This is like suppression ribbons, you can't really prepare for them or practice it or really try, it just happens. +1 for big ticket games.

anyone know how to find the dice servers? we're trying to play the with all the old settings, but quick match puts you in a private server. I tried browser searching, but only found private, rented servers. am I missing something?

That is a nice video ahartig. But one thing I noticed was this. I don't think I can research it now but from what I remember the symthic site that had all the nice breakdowns of everything battlefield had a large disparity between equipping solo suppress vs. Squad suppress. Like to the tune of squad suppress being twice or three times more effective than solo suppress. IDK.
