Can I make this work without a receiver?

I am putting together a somewhat non-traditional projector setup and I can't figure out if I need a receiver or not. Here's a quick rundown:

Display:
1) Projector (HDMI in)

Sound output:
1) Sound bar, Polk IHT 3000 or Sony CT-350 (HDMI or optical in)
2) Wireless headphone system, Pioneer DIR-800C (optical in)

Sources:
1) AppleTV (HDMI, optical out)
2) HDTV OTA Tuner (HDMI, optical out)

Most of the time I will be watching the AppleTV while listening with headphones. But every once in awhile I will need to watch the HDTV tuner and listen through the sound bar. Can I achieve this without a receiver? Can the sound bar handle the switching or is the missing piece to this setup an HDMI/optical switcher?

Much thanks.

Receivers are generally not required for sound bars. I'm quite sure this one does not require one.

Either solution would meet your requirements, all be it with different configurations:

Polk - sources are connected to TV w/RCA cable going to sound bar
Sony - sources are connected to soundbar with HDMI cable to TV

Ideally, get both to demo in your home and send the one you don't want back.

Thanks for the replies. I guess the question I am asking is: what is the best way to send two video/audio sources to one display device and two speaker devices? A receiver or a switch? The more specific the answer the better (including actual connections).

Does the wireless headphone set need a powered source like a receiver or can it come straight from the AppleTv or HD tuner?

Thanks again.

With the Polk sound bar the sources are connected to the TV so you can use the optical out from the TV to the Pioneer headphone transmitter (power source for the headphones). With the Sony soundbar, there doesn't appear to be any audio out jacks so again you would only be able to connect the headphones to the TV optical audio out, however, there is a HDMI pass through feature that you can pass the audio to the TV without the Sony soundbar being on. You should then be able to pass that sources audio to the headphones via the optcial audio out. So either soundbar will likely meet your requirement.

Just to clarify, I do not have a TV, I have a projector. This means my audio and video are going to different places (as opposed to one place via a receiver).

You are right though, if the Sony soundbar had an optical output then I could connect that to the headphone set and pass through the HDMI sources to the projector. But it doesn't have that output. Bummer.

Does anyone know of a soundbar that has HDMI passthrough (repeater) and an optical output?

Ideally, I would want this:

Code:
                        [AppleTV] [HDTV Tuner]
                           \\ /
                            (via HDMI)
                                \\/
[Headphones] <--optical-- [ Sound Bar ] --HDMI--> [Projector]

Oops! Oversight on my part. Then of the two the Sony is your only option with an HDMI switch with optical output for the headphones between the sources and the sound bar.

Great! I think have it.

The "4X1 HDMI 1.3b Certified Switcher with Toslink & Digital Coaxial port (Rev.2)" on monoprice.com seems to be what I need.

Code:
                      [AppleTV] [HDTV Tuner]
                           \\ /
                            (via HDMI)
                                \\/
[Headphones] <--optical-- [HDMI Switch] --HDMI--> [Soundbar] --HDMI--> [Projector]
Thank you!
