I have been avoiding footage of games that I was sure were going to be homeruns (Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3). Thanks for posting the Caspian border map -- my faith has been restored. Mind you, I was in the BFBC2 beta and I don't recall having very many issues at all (3 weeks until release right?).

Go to the website for Battlefield 3 or download all the trailers on the Playstation store. The Battlefield 3 beta does have more issues compared to the BFBC2 beta, but it's silly to judge a game just based on the beta.

Wow. Caspian border is beautiful

Overall the game is pretty decent. The graphics are pretty good as well as the sound. I played it all weekend and I didnt really encounter many bugs or glitches. I will be canceling my preorder, the game is not that fun to me. I have no idea what object of the map is, I keep getting killed by snipers or people hiding in bushes, and sometimes it's hard to tell who's friend or foe. I might pick it up later for the single player campaign but with so many games and movies coming out I have to be picky.

Really went on some sprees tonight. Great fun game, even with the glitchiness.

My major complaints are that lag is an issue for me (when is it not). Someone lagging will always get the better of me every time, where if I'm going against someone not lagging I usually can take them out rather quick. Word n the tubes is that the console versions will retain server lists (!). Hopefully it also gives us pings...

Second is the further you rank up, the more lethal goodies you get. This game really punishes you for being a noob. While it does give you something valuable to work towards, I'm not sure I like that game design decision that severely handicaps new players. Sure, you can make up for it in brute skill, and the fast way to rankup is objective based teamwork (not killing).... but that's not for everyone.

I dunno I tried playing again today and got fed up with the crappy bugs and lame gameplay within about 10 minutes
post #126 of 1525
The hole in the map near the B bomb in the first section sucks ass. I got caught in it a few times trying to defuse the bomb last night. I thought they said they patched that?
I still can't get on a server to play.
this map is terrible. i already know of two people that won't be getting the game because they didn't like the beta. well of course they didn't like it since this map is in no way indicative of a true battlefield experience. i don't know what dice were thinking when they chose this piece of crap map for the beta.
The more I play, the more I like the game. I like the number of unlocks for each gun and the way the weapons slots work. It's way less arbitrary than BC2, where it was a choice between putting an optic on your gun or carrying more ammo or lightweight kit. I also like the select fire option (love the burst fire on the M416) and think that's a "why didn't I think of that" feature every FPS should have. Op Metro is getting a little stale now, but it's still pretty cool to mount a full squad push toward the last MCOM with your spawn tickets dwindling and success right there in front of you. That's an awesome but pressure-packed feeling unlike anything I've experienced in COD.

One last question: does this game have noob tubes? I have yet to see or be killed by a rifle grenade yet.

It does, but the AOE / Splash is sub 100% damage for anything but a direct hit.

I've used it to take out people disarming an MCOM that were damaged from someone else, but if they're full they can usually get it disarmed before I've had a chance to reload.

Sorry not familiar w/beta, is this a free download or do you have to pre-purchase BF3 for a code?

It's a free download. Just sign into the Playstation Store and you will see it under new releases.

Lowark,

Press down on the d-pad to select your fire mode. Automatic guns have full auto and semiauto. Some, like the M416, have burst fire mode as well. It's a neat little feature that makes the assault rifles more deadly at longer ranges.

My biggest complaint, and it's a big one for me, is that the game runs at 720p. From what I just googled, the actual game will also run at 720p on ps3 and xbox. This is a big issue, I pre-ordered this game because of this "revolutionary" new graphics engine, and they really dont look any better than any other game i've played. It doesnt make any sense to me, they spend years working on this new graphics engine, and then they limit it's full potential to the couple hundred people who will play on a PC.

I noticed some changes made to the game while playing last night or am I imagining things?

After a round, when your badges and awards flash by, they seem to flash through a lot faster. BTW, I love the sound of as the badges are displayed.

Also, once you enter the game, the countdown to start the game seems a lot shorter. Only a few seconds.

Were there other changes?

OH and something I noticed yesterday that I have yet to have problems with and I didn't like at all.... LAG or what I perceived as lag. Hit detection has been great up until last night. I'd lay into guys, half a clip to the melon and then they hit me with, what seems to be, one or two shots and down I go. Then, to add insult to injury, when the cam shows them, they have almost full health, if not 100% health. WTF?

Needless to say, I was really upset last night and stop playing after an hour or so. Don't need the frustration.

how well would your graphics run on a $600 pc from 2007?

there's more than just textures to graphics, they had to re-do the physics and destruction engine (no clue why, it was fine in BFBC2) as well as other stuff, they look better than BFBC2 but not a whole lot which is to be expected

If you care about graphics, become a PC gamer, build your own rig and save up $$ for upgrades every 6 months to stay on the bleeding edge....

It's a 5 year old system, no publisher is going to revolutionize graphics this late in the system's life.

The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is based on software that is more than one month old. We need to test the new back end dedicated server structure we’ve built. Not only have we built a new game engine, but an entirely new back end system so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of dedicated servers on all platforms.

Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification, and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game.

That literally makes no sense.
Think Sonies is referring to the faster, more run-n-gun feel of the gameplay and how Operation Metro feels like it was thrown out there to bait the COD fans into trying out the Battlefield series again. I love Battlefield and have a love/hate relationship with COD, so I can see exactly what he's saying. We know EA is pushing hard to expand their player base with this new marketing campaign--the "99 Problems" trailer and the whole "Go above and beyond the call" tagline are aimed squarely at the COD fanbase.

If Operation Metro was representative of the other maps, I would be disappointed too. However, it sounds like the other maps are good old-fashioned Battlefield. Definately going to pre-order this today. Look forward to seeing you guys on the Battlefield.
I just don't see anything remotely COD-like in the gameplay. Just because the map contains one similar aspect to COD maps -- indoor/close quarters combat -- is hardly a reason to dismiss it's entire gameplay and scoff at it. COD maps are tiny little rat mazes, and it's a testament to how decidedly un-COD this game is that even a map with indoor/close quarter section still feels expansive and realistic. Not every battlefield is an actual field y'know.

There were issues with the mics, sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. DICE is known for mic problems in their games, but in BFBC2, they got them sorted out, so hopefully they do here too. And the beta you played was old code. They had already fixed many of the issues, but Sony and Microsoft do not allow quick turn around for patches, so they were not going to bother. Sony and Microsoft need to approve all patches and anything that goes onto the network, that is why the beta was older code.

If any AVSers want to add me to their friends list for BF3, feel free. My PSN is in my sig. I will be gettin the game for both PC and PS3(cousin wants me to play with him). I would like not to have to play with randoms that lonewolf it like its COD MP.
Can't wait for this to come out, loved the beta despite the small map and glitches. But then again I play both Battlefield and COD games, love both.

if anyone finds a good pre-order deal pop up post here or in the deals thread. I can't find anything less than $60... i have it pre-orered at amazon for their release day delivery... but would be open to other places if it is cheaper... I know newegg has had it for $48 a couple of days previously, but not currently

THIS IS A MULTIPLAYER MAP. You spawn at the top, base jump 500 metres into battle, and there is STILL more hold points to go after that.

It's called Damavand Peak
