Win7 & Composite Out HELP!

Hi,

I recently got into Media Center when I upgraded to Win7. I have MyMovies installed, upgraded my ram and bought a remote control. It's pretty friggin' cool.

I also bought a Jaton video card with composite out. I only want composite because I'm going to toss it onto my existing modulator setup. I know the quality isn't that great, but I don't really care. Easy access to my movies is what I'm after.

Anyway, the Jaton video card doesn't work with Win7. I can get it to load drivers, and it seems to be happy, but on restart it shows a problem in the device manager. My computer has an onboard ATI graphics card of some sort. I had hoped to keep my onboard at its high resolution (1600x1200) and use the composite out as a second monitor and just have mymovies maximized on that screen.

So.........How can I reasonably/cheaply get composite out?!!! There sure aren't many video cards with it (like, I can't find any that aren't Jaton), and I don't want another Jaton card. I see a $40 converter on Tigerdirect. "Kworld PlusTV" PC to TV converter. It doesn't support my 1600x1200 resolution, but it still may be the best bet.

Any thoughts?! This is the only thing holding me back from my basic, but awesome, media center setup!!!

Can I do these two in combination? Admittedly, I'd rather not have to use converters, etc. as that just seems to add to the possibility of problems.

Yes, looks doable; although, I would not pay that much for the (PCI) card. You should have an AGP or PCIe slot on the board, I would get a cheap used old card with S-video out.

I have run Windows 7 on an Atom ITX board with and without an ATI X300 (way old), and it ran just fine. (This was for my CarPC)

- Without the card, I just used the onboard s-video on the Atom board and used an s-video to composite cable.
- With the card, I had to force load the ATI drivers and run them in compatibility mode (since they are not supported on WIndows 7) but they run just fine. Used an s-video to composite cable here as well.

I ended up getting an adapter from Sewell for $35. VGA to composite, runs on USB power, even plugs into audio and gives me Red/White RCAs.

They make all sorts of adapters, so I'm sure I'll be using them in the future too. Simple and cost effective for anyone looking at this later.
