Well, got my copy in, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet.

the game is awesome! yeah, you hit the back button and it switches back and forth. sometimes it's a really fast switch and sometimes it takes like a second and a half. i can't believe how old the original graphics look.

some of the changes are truly stunning. some I didn't like. like the guy who helps you get out of stasis was a young thin dude in the original graphics but switch to remastered graphics and he's old and kind of fat/pudgy. but you walk up to a marine and there's just so much detail in the new version compared to the old version.

i also forgot how easy "normal" was. the new music threw me off as well.

I only made it as far as the crash on Halo. So far, I'm impressed with the updated graphics. The character models are good, with the exception of Johnson. What happened to him? And can you say that the 'acting' was better in the original?

I didn't know there was going to be Kinect support. It's easier to press the button for your flashlight or to throw a grenade than to say "flashlight" or "grenade" in my opinion.

I'm really looking forward to playing through the old classic again with the new eye candy.

I'm going to have to pick this up, that campaign was a lot of fun and I'd love to give the MP a go on these maps but would probably get owned since I've only played a couple of them and back in the day when we'd link xbox's with 2 TV's. Hang em High was a favorite.

actually, Joystiq's Kinect coverage of Halo Anniversary went a little more in detail than this youtube video since the guy just got it after the midnight opening.

the true value of Kinect in Halo is the terminals and the library since the library is only available through Kinect (though there are other ways to get the content). also, you can change settings while in the game. you can turn subtitles on and off. change the brightness. change the contrast all while playing the game. no more going back and forth to check settings.

To be specific, the dialogue. To me it sounds buzzy or distorted in some way. Am I the only one who hears this? Other than that, it sounds fine.
I only played Pillar of Autumn last night, but the voices/dialogue for me was distorted a little. I was wondering if it was an install issue. Glad to see someone else had similar experiences, though I hope they patch it soon.

I was looking forward to playing this, but best buy hasn't got their order in yet? That's a little crazy but ok

Okay, I was playing with Halo again. I'll never get tired of Halo 1. It just looks and sounds so awesome now.

The Kinect features are very very cool. There are ZERO INSTRUCTIONS FOR KINECT which is kind of sad. Luckily, the game uses controls from Dance Central but it took me awhile to realize this.

As indicated in the video (but not described completely), when you say "analyze" you enter an analyze mode where the screen turns blue. anything that shows up as orange can be scanned. Analyze mode looks cool and looks like the thermal sensors of the Predator. so you point your reticle on the orange object and say "scan". it will then be put into the library for you to browse and read information about the object. You'll be scanning multiple weapons, characters, various types of enemies, ships, vehicles, etc.

When you're at the main menu, you can go into extras and then select Library. Once in the library, you can enable Kinect mode. At which point, you navigate the objects just like Dance Central. you raise your right arm up and down to go up and down the list of items you scanned. Then you swipe across your body to load the object description. you can rotate the object around, scroll text, etc. To get back to the list of scanned objects, you swipe your left hand just like in Dance Central.

Apparently, you can go to the library directly from within the game but I didn't try that.

For the voice commands, they're really cool.

The first benefit is you can change your settings without having to go to the settings page. So if the level is too dark, you can say "brighter" and immediately see the changes. If you want more contrast, you can say "more contrast". If you want to turn off subtitles, you can say "subtitles off". Note that the settings has to be enabled before the cutscene begins so you can't say "subtitles on" once the cutscene has already started an expect to see the subtitles while in mid playback.

Saying "reload" is not useful. mainly because when you are shooting your gun, it won't reload with the voice command. You have to stop shooting for it to reload as far as I can tell.

"Grenade" is also not really useful but it's neat and more responsive than "reload".

Now the useful voice commands are things like "flashlight" and "change weapon". I actually much prefer saying it than pressing Y for changing the weapon. It's very responsive and just as responsive as pressing Y (in contrast to "reload" which has a little lag and the stupid have-to-stop-shooting) in my opinion.

I didn't try commands like "pause" but that seems useful (though I think I'll stick to hitting the start button for that).

The "Analyze" feature is uber cool. Even in the heat of battle, I was turning the feature on and scanning things as I was fighting. It makes it like an adventure game or RPG.

Wait. What? I had no idea that you could perform so many actions with the Kinect sensor. That scanning sounds cool. I didn't know how the scanning and library worked. I thought that during the game you would come across terminals that you could scan or something, like in Halo 3.

This game is fantastic. It makes me remember why I had so much fun playing Halo in the first place. The new graphics are awesome. And I do not have any audio problems...crossing the figers. I am currently playing the "Truth and Reconciliation" level. And it looks more like Halo Reach! Overall, I would rate the remake an A+++! I hope MS is successful with this strategy. And relaunch other Original XBox classics on the XBox 360 as low price point offers.

For some reason, I'm having more fun playing Halo CE Anniversary than Halo 3 or Reach. Maybe it's because I had no expectations for this one. And the Terminals are really cool. I can't wait for Halo 4 to explore that intel more.

I played through Pillar of Autumn last night and the guns sounded really strange. I can't describe it well, but they sound hollow (that's the best way I can describe it), did they always sound that way?

I had a great time playing slayer on Battle Creek, the overpowered pistol is so fun.

The more I play this the more I love it! It's like going from a 2D game experience to full HD 3D in many ways. Saber Interactive did a truly fabulous job! MS should retain them to do retro's on all of the old XBox Best sellers. I'd sure pop for them to beef up my 360 game Library at $39.99. C'mon MS. Do Halo 2 next...remake Advent Rising. If Saber can do this with AR...we could have a new and better franchise for XBox 720 for the Advent Rising sequels. But to the point...You are missing a treat if you don't revisit this classic Halo Gem!

I really like how the remastered version of Halo takes advantage of Kinect voice features. I hope more games will take advantage of this in the future.

here's a terminal in Halo Anniversary. note that the terminals were first seen in Halo 3 and therefore this is all new content for the Anniversary:

a big step up from terminals in Halo 3. also, the terminals will connect Halo to all the other Halo games and to Halo 4.

a terminal in Halo 3:

if anyone here didn't know the Halo universe, Gamespot has a funny piece that summarized the entire gaming history of Halo:

I don't think I will need any other games to play this winter With Halo CE being probably my all time fav, needless to say I am in heaven right now <3

Sitting close to my 61" Sammy with the Onky cranked up almost as high as it will go is freaking awesome!!

I had serious doubts as to whether 343 could pull this off without having to interject their own artistic will, but they have met my highest hopes. Great job 343 guys!

This gives me hope for Halo 4........

I'm through Truth and Reconciliation so far and am really liking it.

I was very excited for the terminals because I actually really like the Halo mythology and it's delivering so far. Already have a rare Forerunner appearance, which is great. Looking forward to seeing the rest and trying to connect the dots with Halo 4.

There are weird alphabet characters at the end of the terminal videos. Anyone know if those have been deciphered yet?

I love how great Halo Anniversary looks. The analyzing game objects for the library is very cool.

I"m just about finished Truth and Reconciliation on Hard. Did anyone else have problems with Capt. Keyes getting killed immediately after the little break where he says he'll fly a Covenant ship out? No matter where he's standing, as soon as the next wave of Covies show up, he gets killed. A couple of cases, I know it was friendly fire from one of the marines. I am getting very frustrated. I don't remember keeping Keyes alive being such a chore before.

That didn't happen to me. Keyes did die my first time in the hangar...by an invisible Elite with a sword. But I died immediately with him. I guess his death terminates the campaign. I nailed them all (along with both invisible Elites) the second time. And once we boarded the hijacked Covenant ship...Keyes flew us all to the ground and took control of ground operations on the Silent Cartographer level. I finshed that one and just started the Library.

This game is beautiful!. And it took me back totally to why I loved Halo in the first time around. It was breathtaking graphics...interrupted by spellbinding action and intense fighting. With CE Anniv...they have added a new enhanced storytelling dimension with the terminals...along with Achievements. That makes it the best Halo Game in the trilogy IMO.

The terminal clues are fascinating! "Sentient Being Approaching!"...343 Guilty Spark "I am testing destroying parts of the ring and reassembling it for fun!" Hmmmm...intriguing windows into the next Halo trilogy. I won't spoiler rot on the Master Chief reveal in Pillar of Autumn terminal.

Can anyone confirm that if I buy Halo CE the maps will also be available through Reach or is that a pack I would have to purchase separate for Reach?

If you don't want to buy Anniversary and just want the map pack, they've said it'll be available on the marketplace later on.

If you do buy it, like jsacevedo said you'll get a card with a code for said map pack, which is strictly for use with Reach as those maps are already on the Anniversary disc.

Thanks guys, it's going to be tough to wait for this but I really want to see if amazon does anything for it on a lightning or black Friday deal.

My son and I finished the game last night, first time he played it was when he was I think about 8 years old. Being a total Halo fan 343 did an amazing job adding better cut scenes and more about dialogue in the cut scenes, I think they used some of the same semi-animation from the Halo DVD.

All I can say this is like taking an old family classic car thats been stored away and then brought out, tuned up, painted, given new tires and a modern sound system.
Its really awesome, the pistol is still a one hand sniper gun, the shotgun sounds are more impressive and driving the warthogs are still like riding with greased tires on ice. Its a classic that brought back real fun and adventure, no duel wielding or a confusing HUD.

If anyone is indecisive about buying I think you should get it ASAP and enjoy, the game felt like taking a drink of vintage wine, it was outstanding and I am thankful for 343 doing a truly great job to this Anniversary Edition.

+++1 Mr D. Stay warm and safe up in the Yukon this winter. Great condition for serious gaming! I love those terminals in Anniversary. I can't wait now for Halo 4. Did you notice that they made 343 Guilty Spark laugh like a crazed & insane Cortana in the remake. Hmmmm?

343 did a excellent job on this game. It's been a while since I had this much fun playing a game.
