Tm700 60p conversion

Thread Starter
I have a Pana TM700, and I plan on recording in 1080p60. I have final cut pro, and I am aware I need to convert these files before I can edit them.

Does any conversion actually maintain the quality of the original footage, I guess what I am asking is, is it better for me to just record in 1080i HD instead, and then it can run straight into FCP? I have just been looking at some converted stuff (using a FOxreal demo which seems pretty good) and it doesn't really look any better than 1080i (at least to me)

I made sure in FOxreal that it is size 1920 x 1080, 60 fps. I left all of the Pro Res settings as standard.

Perhaps one advantage is to record in 1080p 60 then convert whilst leaving the originals in tact, and one day in the future, at least i've got everything in 60P?

Well, i do not know all the ins and outs of this, but I was filming a sea turtle and dropped it to 1/30 fps due to lighting, and I can clearly see a change in how fluid it swims on my tv. That may have something to do with the fact that it is actually saved as a 60p file though, so each frame is doubled...which may have made the difference more visible than a 30p. Just a theory though, I have no real means of doing such comparisons at the moment.

But, on to the other topic, if you burn the 1080p60 as a data disc you can play it on the sony blu ray players. Planning to pick one up this weekend myself, hopefully bestbuy will match sams club and then let me buy with my gift card gl to me. lol.

Or the top of the line 3d panasonic blu ray players will do the same, but at those prices, why not just by a ps3? @#$% panasonic for that. @#$^#^ Panasonic 65 and 85 should #@$%^$@ be able to play 1080p60 you know? Really @#$^%#@ pisses me off.

But, on that note, you can just use the Cam to convert the files to AVCHD. It will save as a new set of files in a new folder. Wont touch your old video at all, and I imagine that is as little change as you can get?

It will only convert to whatever the default AVCHD is (I always assumed it was 1080i60) in HD, as far as I can tell, so if you want something like 720p60...we are out of luck. Oh well.
