Seeing as I'm not nearly an expert in building a sexy looking enclosure - I wanted to give Nathan @ Funky Waves some business after seeing how beautiful his work has turned out.

Ordered one of these from Funky Waves in Padauk finish (same as pic on the site) with 3/4" roundover on top and bottom and Neutrik connector, magnets sunken under veneer for grill if I so choose to hide that Sexy LMS driver.

Thanks guys... I thought it looked awesome and couldn't resist all the nice large radius corners like my XLERATORS, and Nathan gave me the option of the 3/4" corners on top and bottom - I'm thinkin this one will be with me for a long time.

My rough calc's give me 4.75 (cu feet) = 134.505021 liter internal for a square, then subtract the small volume for the curved sides....
I didn't ask, and maybe Nathan has a direct answer, Its probably close to 4.25 (cu feet) = 120.346598 liter without driver & bracing.




Yeah I wasn't messin around, its really going to be a sideways move replacing the Submersive with this box.... I got the NEW LMS Motor from the guy who dumped the full bridged load of a QSC PL 9.0 into his first venture in DIY, needless to say the results didn't come out too well with the HARD LANDING...

Kyle, I do also have an older LMS motor - and would like to retrofit a new basket to it, can you give me some guidance suggestions for this task.

Net internal volume after bracing and driver displacement (lms5400) is right on 98L (3.46cuf). It is very easy for us to custom build one taller if more internal volume is desired.

What rack mountable amps are recommended for this product and build besides the Crest 8002..........

A bridged Marathon ma5050 is a good choice and those usually run about $750-850 a piece.

Seems the Marathon 5050 would suit your needs just fine - has been growing in popularity around here and showing promising results for a reasonable price.

Nathan sells this as a fully finished product with onboard plate amp if you so desire.

My two new mal-x's 21's would sure look nice in a couple of them cabs......hummmmmmmmm. It's cold outside AND I'm feeling pretty lazy lol.
That means, I'm going to need 2 for the 21's and 2 for the 18's though....hummm

You could run a pair of those on a single 20 amp circuit bro....
There is a reason these amps have CAPS - to sustain that power delivery consistently. But if your running new service - I wouldn't stop at a single circuit...

The old motor should accommodate the new top, you just don't have a way to align it, but if you buy some thin Teflon strips you can do it and just tighten the bolts down. Put the strips on the inside of the gap (inside of the coil) cut them long and loop them thu the vent hole int he tyoke so you can pull them out.


OR -- if you can hand it over to a machine shop - tape the gap with masking tap and have them cut a 5.310" OD down 0.075" and it should fit perfect.

The hole pattern is what im unsure of. You can mod the frame easier than tapping new holes into the motor so just drill what you need into the soft aluminum.

All of our motors should fit 1/4-20 threaded screws.

No........Pacific Northwest......."God's Country!"

I have no problem running two separate circuits due to new home construction........better safe than sorry. I prefer rack amps due to removing as much heat from the dedicated room..........

Never know what the future holds so better to leave ample room for growth.

BTW, is there a huge difference in quality and reliability between the Marathon 5050 or the QSC RXM 5050?

I have a rmx5050. Never had a problem with mine. I think the marathons are not too well adopted yet and it's not really known how reliable they will be. You can get almost 2 marathon 5050's for the price of 1 RMX.

Ok just taking a look at this older motor - can I just remove the threaded ring/spacer and cut it down removing the threads so the new basket just slides down around the guide shim/threaded spacer ?

Will I need to compensate for the flat rubber Oring glued to the old basket...? as opposed to lack of with the new baskets ? Are the new motors deeper accommodating for the extra excursion compared to the old motor ?
1/16" or so thickness...?




The mounting threads look to align up with the new baskets from looking by eye...

Gotta say that I feel like Ricci and I really cleaned up picking up all those Crest 8002's, even used they are such amazing performers... sure would be nice to have built in dsp or some of the extra features of the modern day amps but durability and performance don't just fall off the truck these days...

I think it says alot that Ricci is using this amp as his basis for sub testing the monster drivers....

**I'm curious, did I miss the testing of the MA-5050 ?**

I'm sure they are fantastic amplifiers but still, waaayyy expensive. Although not all of us hit it off big with the awesome income. And by not all of us, I mean me.

Bosso seems to like the ma5050 and has run it pretty hard.

Hey now, we were under budget with the purchase of all these amps - they were all used before we picked them up for around the same price of the new MA-5050's. It was around the time when all the Crown CE4000's were really becoming scarce.... The Binks testing data was the guiding light in this adventure...

As long as the MA-5050's hold up that's all I care about so I can have something to suggest for people looking for that serious powerplant.... Is this amp even slated to be tested or has it been already... If I needed another amp, I would be happy to buy one of them and send it out for testing... would be nice to see the numbers on it...

BTW, My father always said "You do nothing more then work in life, ya work more then you eat, sleep and CR@P, So GET USED TO IT !!" I guess I learned to do nothing but work hard since the 6th grade on.... just for the fun of it.... Not sure if thats a good thing or not, now that I'm old....


OH YEAH - PACKERS FTW !!!!!!!
