Sure -- except....

When dealing with an "on paper" xover for drivers in a box things are one way but multiple speaker enclosures in a closed room can be different. Just because "on paper" things look good does not mean it is gonna pan out that way.

Guys

I know the answers you are getting back from Theta's Tech support are slow in responding but believe me all the cycles of the day are being spent on getting upgrades finished and out the door. Its just Dave right now doing the upgrades and Carl is busy on the manual and other items like RS232 manual updates etc..

I am and will be the information Liaison for my customers and I am doing everything I can to keep the information flowing..

As far as any configuration issues pertaining to using Overlay modes on LPCM, the engineers know about it and I am sure they will try and get it into some future releases.

Lets keep in mind , the machine has been out for 12 weeks and they have done a pretty good job of getting almost everything people asked for into the first rev..

There's lots more to come..

Thanks for the support
Craig

Thanks Craig for the insight. You have been very valuable in this thread, and also a great person to do business with. I received my CB3 upgrade, which was #16 on March 25, and the transaction was perfect!!! I have to travel for a couple of weeks, but look to get the unit back into my system when I return.

Your pre and post sale support is a benchmark

Only one person,Dave, doing the upgrades? I thought Theta hired someone? Someone should test whether it is a LPCM issue or a problem with the Casablanca being able to post-proccess higher resolution LPCM. I do not believe the Casablanca has ever been able to expand 24/96 to 7.1? I suspect that because the DTS MA tracks are mostly 24/48,the Casablanca is able to expand them to 7.1. Someone should try a 5.1/24-96 DTS MA track and see what happens. The Oppo may just be converting SACD to LPCM at a higher sampling rate than the Casablanca can expand to 7.1. LPCM may not be the real issue.

WRONG!

Try it!!!@@@@ My tracking # has special encoding and only I by inserting the correct three digit code can use it to track, re-rout, etc. How stupid do you think I am?

You beat me to it. I have two P5's on order. I'm going to try to run my poweramps through them (one P5 for each monoblock - and spread the lower power components evenly between the two P5s). If it does not work, I'll plug the Mono's back straight into the wall and sell one P5. Let me know how your P5 compares to the PPP. Norm should have one soon as well.

Or pull a joke on Steve. Call FedEx and have it held for pick up. He would be expecting it but it would not be delivered. You might have to hire a hit man though to kill the one Steve would send after you : ) .o

Hi Folks, sorry for being a bit off topic, but thought this would be the best spot for it.

Mods: feel free to move if needed.

I'm wanting to add a Standard DAC to slot 3 on a CB2. It currently has 2 superior 1 cards: slot 1 Superior card for L/C/R, Slot 2 Superior card for Sub/LSur/Rsur.

I'd like to add a standard card to Slot 3 that will do SurC, SideL and SideR.

I have instructions on how to enter the configuration menu and configure EXISTING cards, but not sure if this menu is also where I configure the CB2 when a new card is added?

Feel free to PM/email me if needed.

Thanks!

My understanding is that those instructions apply to reconfiguring the DACs re channels for all the slots of the CB2. And I used those procedures many years ago to reconfigure the DACs for my CB2 (only 2 cards, not 3, but shouldn't make any difference). If you wan't a guarentee contact Theta tech support.

Wait! I believe only the newer cards like the Superior II, Premium, and Xtreme can be reconfigured to handle different channels. Steve has Xtreme dacs so what he was able to do does not apply to your needs. Here's the last discussion, note Les's comments, http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archi...t-1212948.html

Bulldogger- Good point. The standard card i'm getting is configured to do what i want, which is SurC, SideL and SideR, so I wont be reconfiguring it to do other channels, i just need the CBII to be able to recognize the new card and function.

What are your thoughts on just getting the machine to recognize the new card?
Thanks again,
Jakeg

The reconfiguration will do all cards installed, not just the new one. You can't reconfig one card at a time. Though if you are only adding channels with a new card, you may be able to choose a configuration which leaves the old cards the same configuration.

When I reconfigured, I had all Superior DACs, and I took out the 2 Superior DAC cards and inserted the two then new Extreme DAC cards - and that was with my then CB2.
That was maybe two years prior to my late 2005/early 2006 CB3 upgrade, and prior to Bulldogger becoming a Theta luver!!!

But that my point. You took out original Superior dacs, which are not reconfigurable and replaced them with cards that could be. I actually bought an old card with my CBII, Superior1, thinking I could reconfigure it. I actually shipped it in to Theta. It could not be done and the card was shipped back. I resold it.

You should be fine. I am cautious because repairs to the CBII appear to be very limited. When the Superior1 card that I wanted installed could not work in my CBII, I used a Standard card configured exactly as you intend in the same slot.

I have all the interconnects I need for 2 channel through the tube pre. The additional interconnect I need is for the HT bypass, so this signal will never see a tube in its lifetime (interestingly, the Modwright has a true bypass - it works with the unit switched off. Most preamps have unity gain). I'm scouring audiogon for a pair of Transparent audio ultra's for this application.

For the Modwright all I needed was a powercord and I have a Synergistic Research precision AC cord in transit. My usual strategy - expensive cord ($1,800 list), bought cheap ($720). If it does not deliver the goods it is back on audiogon, and I lose $50 tops.
