Hi Guys,
Been reading all of your helpful insights.
But can't seem to squeeze the trigger.
Vizio Xvt3d554sv
Pros: 2d seems to be amazing, full array a plus. Jury seems to be out on the 3D: Some say the 3D on the Vizio is amazing, others say is it just average. Hard to know if the average reviews are more due to content (vs. the tv).
Reviews on CNET, AVS, Sams's club, and Costco are mostly good, but some are not. Most of the grumpiness is over reliablilty (as opposed to picture quality): Random vizio reboot, shuts off for no reason.
Sony Kdlhx800
Pros: 2d is georgeous, my viewing of its 3D is that it is good, not great. When watching Alice in Wonderland in the Sonystyle store in the Beverly Center, it just seems too dark. Confirmed my thoughts with the salesman. He said it was a function of the glasses, but I think it may also the t.v. The image in 3D very clean, no ghosting, double images, etc. Just dark.
The HX800 gets almost universal thumbs up for image quality. Just browse the 100s of reviews on BestBuy dot com and everyone is glowing. No reports of shutting off for no reason, no weird reboots. No dead on arrival sets. Not wild about having a separate emitter for the 3D, but at least at Costco they are throwing it in.
Gaming testimonials seem about the same for both sets. (Not looking at Samsungs because of the bad reviews for gaming.)
Cost on both is around 2k, including shipping and sales tax. Not looking for cost analysis. For me, they're basically the same in the cost department.

- Has anyone compared these two side by side? Thoughts?
- Also, do you think these Vizio shutting off issues are firmware related or the TV? Philosophically, I think Vizio should have gotten it right before releasing these to the public, but do you think this is something that can be fixed with some software updates down the road?
