Amazon links

OK, my curiosity has gotten the better of me.

Why do the links to Amazon have some sort of redirect in them?

Since I began maintaining the Amazon Blu-Ray Preorder thread, I've noticed that something changed a while back, I actually see the AVS forum page reload briefly before proceeding to the Amazon page.

Today the pages were loading slow enough that I could actually catch a URL before ending up at the Amazon page;

Code:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1137683&SID=5336055023-20&dr_log=-1&linkout=http%3A//www.amazon.com/Tron-Blu-ray/dp/product/B004KPLVW2
Just why is all of that extra in the URL before the "//www.amazon.com/Tron-Blu-ray/dp/product/B004KPLVW2" ?

This reloading of the AVS page makes it rather difficult to perform maintenance on the blu-ray preorder thread. I used to be able to go through a complete date listing by control-clicking all of the links under that date, each link would pop up in a new tab behind the forum page. I could then quickly scan each page for date changes.

Now when you control-click the links, they pop up in a new tab in front of the forum page, which prohibits click several links quickly. While links to other places do not exibit this behavior, as in this post. as in this post.

Like I stated, just curious as to why.

I've noticed lots of my links now exhibiting this "strange" load-the-AVS-page-first behavior.

If I remember correctly, AVS had such a problem with so many people using the site for revenue via referral codes, we ended up adding a code to override them, but this was a long time ago with no recent changes that I'm aware of.

This change that I'm referring to, has happened within the last year.

I originally took over the Amazon Blu-ray preorder thread around March/April of 2009. For about a year to 16 months, the control-click to open in a new tab functioned normally with the new tab opening behind the current window. So the change that I'm speaking of has happened within the last 8-10 months or so.

I was going to say maybe a year ago so that sounds about right.
