Color me disappointed in Terra Nova. The main focus of this pilot episode was on the family and their drama. But I don't like any of the family members. I really hated that scene where the oldest daughter spouted off some technical sounding info about some dinosaur, and then turned away embarrassed. We, as the audience, are supposed to think, "Aww, hot cute. She's brilliant, but shy."
Vomit. I've lost track of the number of two dimensional characters I've seen portrayed in this exact same manor on other shows.
All of the characters seem like two dimensional stereotypes. The son is the rebellious teen, who's just like his father. I knew he was going to get into trouble when he left the camp for booze and swimming. Yeah, that's totally worth dying forth.
One of those two injured teens better die from their injuries in the next episode; otherwise where's the sense of danger?
I laughed several times at the cartoon cgi dinosaurs. The slashers, in particular, seem to be immune to bullets. So either their scales are made of adamantium, or the guns the teens were using, were loaded with rubber bullets.
The colony has supposedly been here for 7 years, and they still don't have weapons that can kill the dinosaurs? They can only scare them off? Really?!
Also, the wooden
fence around the camp seems awfully flimsy to keep out dinosaurs. They couldn't come up with anything better than that? They couldn't use, I don't know, steel or concrete?
I hate the leader of the Sixers. Her character feels like it came out of an episode of Xena Warrior Princess. Her personality boils down to only two attributes: aggressiveness and sexy. I really hope they flesh out her character more than that. Pun intended.
The waterfall marking were a disappointment. First they get our hopes up, by saying that no one knows how long the markings have been there. So I begin to speculate that it's either aliens or another species has evolved on earth, in this alternate time stream. Nope. The show immediately destroys those cool ideas. The leader of the Sixers says that the markings are "Nathaniel Taylor's son just throwing it in his old man's face." Oh...OK. That's pretty lame.
I'll stick with Terra Nova for now, but it better improve soon.
